Here is the latest White Dwarf cover and pics of what looks like the Anniversary model. No Nids or Necrons in sight

Translation:
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Rogue Trader, which forever changed the face of miniature wargaming, we're immortalising in Citadel Finecast the very first star of Warhammer 40k.

The evocative illustration from the cover of Rogue Trader leaves no doubt; in the far future there is only war. In the center of the immage a Crimson Fist captain holds an Ork's head. Juan Diaz has sculpted a miniature based on this Space Marine captain, brandishing his grisly trophy in his power fist, a plasma pistol in his other hand. The kit includes a display base with the proud Crimson Fist standardin in the background. Alternatively you can use a regular base so that the captain can lead a squad of Crimson Fists into the heart of battle.

The White Dwarf cover says:
The Return of the King game (at the top)
The Lord of the Rings - The Battle Game
5 New Supplements and a ton of figures

Warhammer
Extension of the Civil War Series

Warhammer 40,000

  1. Very cool model. Might have to pick that up.

Can't wait to see what other releases there are.

  2. Wow, that model looks amazing. I'll definitely consider purchasing it...

  3. Any word on the back cover/last few pages? As in a preview of next month? or are they still not doing that?

  4. I'd buy that one. But seriously does any one still play LotR? Roll on 2013 when the last part of The Hobbit comes out and maybe then GW will move the whole line onto a back burner. I've only ever read the LotR bit when I'm awake at 3am with insomnia.

    1. Lotr SBG is one of the best systems! Pretty big still at my local store, and it has a strong following.

    2. Where do you live, Tim? Here in upstate New York, the only time you ever see someone buy LotR models is when a game store draws down stock or goes out of business. And even those models are likely being used for D&D.

    3. I have never seen a game of LotR being played in my life. You're quite right, Loopy, my friend has a fair few models that he got in a closing down sale and only uses for D&D games.
Also, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the price tag? €26 is probably going to be £20+ in England, which seems a bit ridiculous when you actually think about it. And I don't quite know why, but I'm just a bit disappointed with the model. Maybe it's because it's another space marine...

  5. First the Blood Angels Captain then this one. Wow... I just love the choices they make lately.
It's vintage classy and so neat in the making. GW sculptors are so good.
    I'll definitely get this one.

Mind you, I'll even go to the Game Day for the first time to get the BA Captain.

  6. That's a nice model but it's a bummer we didn't get a glimpse of 'Nids or 'Crons. Hope we get them in March at least.

  7. One day, while musing on 'what ifs' I had a thought:

What if I collect a Space Marine Company, with support, from the various ages. Crusade, Maximus, Heresy, Corvus and Aquilla armour.

That model will make an excellent 'Corvus' armour Company Captain.

    Imperial Fist 4th Company.

Better start saving! Bring on February 25th! Don't care about Tyranids and Necrons now, I just want that model!

  8. If anyone actually plays LotR, though, then you're getting five new supplements and a "horde of figures". Sounds cool. Warhammer has the second civil war expansion or whatever it was, and as far as it says on the front cover, 40k has the new model. That's not to say we won't get anything else, but they probably consider the anniversary model more important. So we could still have new models, but more likely they'll be in March.

  9. Wow - I think this model is almost essential if you're "of the right age" - the orinal pic is basically what 40k came from in the forst place for a lot of us - true GRIM DARK as they say

  10. Now I know how my wife feels when I forget our aniversary, and then show up at the last minute with something quirky, unexpected, and expensive.

  11. I doubt this next issu would hve lotr as it's 25 anniversary for 40K!!!! That would make no sense to just ruin the anniversary by putting in lotr. They can wait, my Necrons cannot!!! !!!

    1. Read the front cover. You don't have to speak French to understand that it is dominated by LotR.

  12. Does that model in the picture say (cue dramatic music) FINECAST????!!!!!!!!!!! Great cant wait to pay a bucket load of money for Finecrap. One leaked rulebook and GW screws us with Lotr and Finecrap models for the 25th anniversary

  13. I couldnt stand the cover art for that edition, and I cant stand that model. Why anyone likes it is beyond me. They did a great job with the BA cap, but this just stinks. And no I dont play BA, Im DA, and suffer from 2nd ed character syndrome as well...

  14. For 15 years I've been aware of that cover art, and yet in all that time I've always thought the Marine was holding a stunted mace or something similar - turns out its a severed Orks head.

Not really sold on the mini but that could just be the pictures and painting style. I'll wait to judge it until I've seen it in the flesh

  15. By the way: 26,- € for that mini (at least in Germany)...
