War is Coming: 5 Complete Fantasy Armies Kickstarter

War is Coming as Shieldwolf Miniatures continues to push their first kickstarter, which is now down to 13 days left. The miniatures are already funded, and stretch goals are being bypassed. This means its the perfect time to jump in and check them out.The models themselves are done in 28mm heroic/bulky scale and are in plastic and resin. I have been digging through this kickstarter for the last hour or so, and I think is one that you should check out.

Here are some images from the kickstarter, and a video introduction.

There are a lot of cool mini's right around the corner for stretch goals, my favorites of course being the battle wyverns.

  1. Two years ago I could see this hitting high marks on Kickstarter. Now with fatigue and competition its a different market. If my local flgs allowed counts as in tournaments I'd be all over this for a SW army on lions. Now I can't summon anything more than mild bystander interest.

    1. "$26,415 pledged of $5,000 goal"

hmm yes it seems they're struggling to meet their goal in today's kickstarter market

    2. Kickstarter continues to prove that people have more money than sense.

I've bought into a few miniature kickstarters and it's taken almost a year to get what I paid for. I haven't ever been scammed, but in some cases I wasn't too thrilled with the way that the various companies handled the procedure. They promise big, but are slow to deliver, but maybe that's just the nature of the miniature market.

    3. The delay is because they farm a lot out to third party companies - 3D printing companies for the master model, other companies to create the moulds, quite possible another company after that to actually cast from the moulds - and they're generally all using the same bunch of companies, who are now tasked to capacity from all the kickstarters.
Chapterhouse basically admitted that his orders that used to be back to him ready to ship within a couple of days can now take up to a couple of months because of the demand kickstarter is creating.

    4. Shieldwolf doesn't employ third parties however -they manufacture in house. I very much doubt this campaign will be late, probably they'll even manage to deliver earlier.
Pity people aren't more interested in high quality plastics, I would have expected people jumping on these shield maidens much faster, hopefully they'll get unlocked before the campaign finishes.

    5. ^ these models well atleast those pictured above don't offer anything i cannot buy from someone i have trust to meet my expectation as well as supply/demand. the consumer will ask what do i have to lose and also more importantly why put faith/trust in this company over ones they buy from on a more regular basis.... don't get me wrong some are nice idea's/sculpts but i already have a plastic crack dealer.

  2. I see they got Pat Keith to sculpt all their female models...because he only sculpts female models. But at least he sculpts most of them nicely.

The rest of the stuff...mediocre. Look closely at the posing and parts for those Armored Skeletons. You'll discover a ton of "front-sculpt syndrome." This is where the sculptor does an amazing job on the front-on sculpting, but forgets that they also have to sculpt in three dimensions and the model ends up looking too thin in profile and nearly nude of detail from the rear viewing angle.

  3. I have a vampire counts army made almost entirely from mantic. I really wish they did some good vampires. There is surprising a terrible shortage of good vampire minis out there.

    1. Take a great human miniature, give it pale skin and red eyes. Instant vampire.

    2. There is a little more you want aesthetically from a vampire mini than skin color, lol.
