Forgeworld is often quick to respond to its customer base. So when its customers generally asks a question, they respond with very useful information. So when are Tau Forgeworld rules getting updated?

This comes directly from Forgeworld answering questions

via Forgeworld from the Faeit 212 inbox
The rules for all of the Forgeworld Tau models will be updated in the forthcoming release of Imperial Armour Volume 3: The Taros Campaign, 2nd edition.

We are hoping to release this book at some point within the next two months.

    1. They have an inbox for rules inquiries . I'd guess he sent them an email asking and they answered. They'd already said to people who asked at whatever their recent event was that IA3 Second Edition was coming soon.

    2. It was part of a large email that a reader sent my way in his correspondence with Forgeworld.

He did not want his information posted, so I posted up a small section of what was relevant.

    3. Any word on if this will include the xv9's and r'alai?

  3. Tetra markerlights now Heavy 12, 72" range, and Homing at BS 5! Hazard suits now all 2+/2++ with FNP and reanimation protocols! On a more serious note: I do assume that the suit range rule updates will be glorious to behold.

    1. "suit range"=the range of suit models not the range of suit weapons.

  4. Does anyone else think it is wrong that people who bought the original book will have to buy it again to get the updated rules?

    1. You'll hate this company called GW...

    2. I see where u r comming from but the same is true with codexes and the imperial armour 3 book is practically useless as it is, as almost all of its rules have been ipdated

      Delete
    3. It's not GW. It's the hobby. Look at Dungeons & Dragons. War Machine has done it too. Flames of War, Confrontation....

      Delete
    4. Every single version of every single game from every RELEVANT company in the genre does this. It's not just GW.

People always say stupid things like, "Well, to play WarmaHordes I only need one book!"

Right...you technically only need one book to play 40k too. But if you want to add Hordes to Warmachine, you need another book. If you want to add more than a handful of casters to your faction, you'll need each faction book as well (which cost as much as GW codices, mind you). Then if you're going to want to add Colossals, you'll need another book. Oh, but Gargantuans are an additional book too. Then you may need to pick up a few others if you want to know how to combat your enemy. Then there's the Prime book...

In other words, people see with the glasses they want, but every top tier company does this.

    5. Dark Age Games will replace their Core Rules book with the new one coming out. Not to mention that they also post the rules on pdf form on their site.

Dark Age is a great game, and I think its popularity will be growing steadily.

    6. So uh Naftka, how much are they paying you for all of the advertising that your doing for them? (lol)

I'm just kidding, they seem like a great company, and it seems like a great game, can't wait to hear more.

    7. I've been playing the game now since December. (not on the payroll).

There is a lot to like for a skirmish sized game in Dark Age. I am hoping during the upcoming core rules, they alter deployment some zones and game set up.

Rules, models, and company so far I really like.

    8. Of course, see my rant down there.

    9. Ant to Eric or other people saying the rules re useless now... why? why they are useless?? I keep on playing with everything, of course I will throw 4 dices instead of three when using the burst cannon, and of course my Tetra will use the new rules for their disruption pod... but EVERY gadget in imperial armour has been effectively "converted" in the new Tau Codex simply using the 6th edition update they published. What's the point of another book? Simply make you feel uncomfortable thinking that the Tetra may be now 5 points less, or that your "networked markerlight" no longer exist? Ah, yes, use old rules and nobody will want to play with you, and of course if some people had trouble trying to use FW models, now they place the icing on the cake.

  5. I'm aware, it's just this guy comments anti-gw crap whenever he gets the chance. That's why I pointed out gw in particular.

  6. I wonder if it'll be available at Games Day US. It'll be the first one I get to go to, and I'd love to pick it up while I'm there

  7. So this is pretty great and all, but when is IA 2 second edition coming out? I would love to know what they plan to so with the DA mortis dreadnought, as well as some of the inquisition stuff.

  8. A good idea would be to do the book & a little mini book with the rules part, that way people that bought the first one need only buy the mini dex.

This would only be fair as unlike a new codex where everything is new the story is still going to be the same.

    1. Great idea. I have the old book i brought for my Tau and have some of the models. I did ask FW and they did say they will do free PDF rules up-dates that will be on-line for everyone, so you will see these as well.

  9. This coukdnt make me happier. Have been dithering over whether to get a couple of barracudas, as they are now both cheaper and better than the codex flyers. Now ill be off to the shops. Only hope they update the xv-9's and the remora as well. Oh, and kroot beasties. Gotta love them

    1. Umm... I'm no expert on forge world, but aren't the barracudas nearly double the price (£35 more) than the GW Tau fliers

      Delete
    2. I think he means cheaper in points cost

      Delete
    3. Ahh... Thanks for clearing that up. As i said I'm no forgeworld expert. By how much is the barracuda cheaper. I might consider getting one myself - not sure my wallet will agree though, what with eldar coming soon *sigh*

      Delete
    4. It's not that much, about 10 points or something

      Delete
    5. It's only a few points cheaper (130pts for a barracuda) but they benefited greatly from the new Tau codex. Burst Cannons are Assault 4 now instead of 3, giving the barracuda two additional jink ignoring shots.
Ion cannons can now be overcharged, meaning you have a flyer that can drop S8AP3 large blasts.
And it can also now dumb fire its seekers (if you take some).

Not to mention it has a 4+ jink because it's agile. It's cheaper and largely better than the current Codex flyers.

    6. Had a Barracuda for years, now as it's only 130 pts and it has an Ion Cannon (over chargeable), TL- Missile pod, Two burst cannons that ignore cover and up to 4 seeker missiles. It’s a great flyer but it’s AV10 all round and only 2 HP. Still I reckon it’s better than the sunshark and well worth having one or two.

  10. Cool, it sounds like good news for Kroot players too. Hopefully there will be a few more Kroot and maybe even Vespid units too.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Just had a thought. Remember the list of rumoured units that were going to start in june and we were told they would be photo artwork? A lot of that was tau and kroot. And isnt the book art for forge world done by the same people who do the box art for gw? Am i reading too much into it or could this mean a whole slew of new units for our favorite space fish?

    ReplyDelete
  12. cool. Thanks for the info. Would have really preferred they just put out an update book as opposed to a reprint with updates but oh well

    ReplyDelete
  13. I kinda understand everyone's gripe here, especially since IA3 was one of the most expensive sourcebooks out there, but at the same time, new editions come out, so new books come out to replace it, not just in our hobby, but look at school textbooks: those get new editions all the time and thus replaced. Nature of the beast. If you don't feel like dropping about $100 on the new book, well, give it a month or two and someone will torrent it...

    1. Probably leading to a further rise on attacks on piracy and a hike in prices to protect their interests. Or just because theyre a bunch of money grubbing whores

  14. The book is real..read it at the open day...tetras nerfed a little but pointed accordingly and xv9 s are open to all the new gear;) also fluff retrospectively built around new history:)

  15. "So when its customers generally asks a question, they respond with very useful information."

Hah. Unless you're a Tau player. Then their Facebook admin is usually rude, dismissive and usually ignores what you actually ask.

I have on occasion asked them about things, and the response has without fail been a combination of those.

What they *should* have done, was release a PDF update of the rules they had out for all their models when 6th ed came out.

  16. Can't be more mad myself.

So now whenever I got a doubt about a rule from my old Taros Campaign book, I will mail them as usual and instead of a formal clarification on how to use my rules they will answer: BUY THE SECOND EDITION???

Where are the FULLY updated rules they used to do??

This is not like GW codexes!! The codexes are updated until a new edition arrives, but forgeworld has always been about "EXTRA" rules, they were simply UPDATED in their web, then suddenly they are no longer updated, now you got to pay for the new rules... so what the hell they suposed we are going to do with all of our old forgeworld models???? I am really angry about their prices, their customer care and their profit policies... Gary Gigax did D&D to HAVE FUN, Tolkien wrote his books to ENJOY writing, I don't mean they shouldn't earn money, but this is becoming disgusting, OF COURSE it is. And please, instead of saying that this is simply a rant, please explain what is the point for a new Tau rulebook.

    1. Whenever I have a question about my 2007 CSM Codex, I e-mail GW and they tell me to buy the new one. This book is older than that (2003?). I really can't see the problem.
