OK readers, its now official. I have the information for what will be in Death from the Skies and of course I am sharing all of it that I am allowed to. Here are the details.

No longer a rumor. Even I had concerns the image above was photoshop'd, but it is the real cover. There are no flyer releases listed out from what I have seen. Hopefully next month?

I also wonder which version of the Stormraven codex Space Marines and Black Templar will be able to use.

  3. So when the "Oh so trusty" rumor-mongers from around the interwebs said Tau, Dark Eldar, Tyranids, and some other faction will get flyers, they really had no clue?

    Doesn't surprise me.

The problem with rumors like that is it builds up people's hope who then turn and blame GW for not releasing them. While we, the average gamer, have no idea what GW has to go through to conceptualize, design, produce, and market their products, we just assume that because it didn't come out, they were purposely being jerks. Instead of blaming the rumor-mongers, or just forgetting about it, people will blame GW.

    1. It would seem a logical time though to release some flyers shortly after this. Hard to tell. Its been rather substantiated that at least the Dark Eldar Voidraven is done, and has been for some time. so I would assume that other releases would come around then.

Tau though.... might as well wait until a codex release if it is indeed right around the corner.

    2. It would seem logical to release new flyers with this book and charge everyone to get the new rules. You're implying now that we will get this book, then new flyers with WD rules to carry around? Kinda dumb if it's true...

      Delete
    3. He's saying that the DE might get a void raven model and updated rules now. But the Tau will probably end up waiting as a sign of their codex being released soon and the model being saved for that. Same explanation could be given for normal Eldar as well. No point releasing a model then changing the source of its rules in a month I spose.

      Delete
    4. Forgot about the void raven, that could be released along with this. For some reason I think they would just add a sprue to the current flyer, rebox, and increase price. Who knows...

Just find it hard to believe there will be a true flyer wave. Might as well just release them with codex updates. Unless there is no codex coming soon, example being Nids and SW.

    5. There very well might have been a plan to release new aircraft with this book at one point, but they were dropped from the list for what ever reason.

We have no idea what's going on and things are always liable to change between when someone hears it, and posts it on the net (or passes it to someone to do so) and when the final details are set in stone.

I begrudge those who mentioned these additional flyer not.

    6. Indeed. This is exactly why there really is little point in paying attention to rumours until the product is actually ready to ship.

      Delete
    7. Disagree. It´s just too obvious that Eldar and Tau should have one of best fliers in W40K and instead they have none. Yet, another upgrade is releaset for other races... I don´t need rumors to be upset.
About other cases. If people cant differentiate rumors and reality, them its their fault and noone else (including rumors).

  4. So are Space Wolves going to be the only chapter without a flyer in their own army list now?

    1. Yeah it appears that Wolves are the redheaded stepchildren of the Marine dexes. Dang it we need either a Flyer or Flakk missiles. I'd be a happy Wolf fan either way, as I am tired of having to take it on the chin or bring allies with access to flyers/AA.

    2. There are plenty of forge world options to fill that void

    3. There are I forked out on a storm eagle from forge world for my wolves and aeronautica but then discovered I can't use it at Battle Brothers event. Thanks GW £100 wasted.

    4. I'd rather stay without Flyers that getting another Dark Talon, frankly.

    6. Long Fangs with Skyfire? NIGHTMARE FUEL.

    7. As a Wolves player, I sprung for the FW Storm Eagle as well. My advice to those considering the same is to buy the GW Stormraven and the Chapterhouse extender kit; makes virtually the same model, but with the benefit of being all plastic with minimal warping. FW can't really handle making large vehicles. Bless 'em for their infantry models, though!

    8. Cry when you are the oldest codex in play and GW 6th Edition FAQ specifically nerfed everything that gave you some playability in 5th Edition and actually made one of the viable lists *illegal*.

For the love of...., just ally in some Guard and get the best flyers in the game....or ally with the Dark Angels and get the worst flyers in the game.

  5. So anyone knows if the rules will stay the same (apart from stormraven i guess it could have another set of missile types) points and avs..?

  8. If it´s only in English language, and have stock for a short period only, probably will be like Apocalypse Book, and don´t affect the main game (40K),or perhaps happen as happened with imperial armor´s seal of approval vehicles.. theoretically valid for the main game, but practically non-existent ... so I think the game will still be unbalanced by flyers for a long time, as happened in the fifth edition with tanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ya I realy don't get it. Assuming they "balance" the flyers (and a update does not mean: here are the hull and turretpoints like in the RB), whats the point?
So only english speaking players that buy an additional book are technically allowed to play with them?
Still does not change the fact (because there is no online FAQ for them) that if somebody does not have the book, he can simply play with the old versions and he would not even be wrong if he does it.

Long since I have seen a product with so little sense in it.

  9. Updated rules for Necron flyers? Wonder what that will bring? If it nerfs them at all will Necron players still have to go by/buy this book for them to legally field them?

Anyway, I got my pants into a knot unnecessarily it seems over this. It is not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Lesson learnt.

    1. That or they'll claim they spent too much $$$ on Nightscythes, and can't afford the book that nerfs them...

      Delete
    2. My suspicion is that the updated rules will just be the codex entry with the updated language from the most recent FAQ, the hull points, the flyer type, etc., with no alterations of any kind. If that isn't what happens, my hope is that GW adjusts the errata/faq to match the version in this book so that people's codex is up to date. Frankly, I don't think its reasonable to expect someone to carry additional books for updated rules, especially not when they paid 40 dollars for the necron codex barely more than a year ago.

      Delete
    3. I think Ian nailed it. This book just brings 5th edition fliers (NOT monstrous creatures) that have been FAQ'd elsewhere. New fliers (Tau) or flying monstrous creatures will be updated either with a new codex (Tau) or by having Cruddace punish them by further nerfing them out of existence (*cough*).

  10. hmm, so it covers the Void bomber, does this mean that there are pictures of the new model as well ? Or just a text page like in the DE codex ?

concerning which version of the Storm Raven becomes available to SM and BT, I'd say it gets the same missiles like the Dark Angels have S6 AP4

  12. It appears to be similar to most of their recent releases. Minimal new content mixed in with old/re-hashed content. Less development means more profitable runs. I think what we hear in the rumour-mills is stuff they may do long-term - i.e. they stretch out content. So far (as far as I can remember) only the DA codex came out close to most of the early rumours, everything else has fallen short of early promise. It is disappointing when something that sounds good never arrives (I'm still stinging from Dark Apostle's not being able to summon daemons - or do anything useful in fact....), but at the end of the day we usually at least get something half decent out of these releases. I'm not sure that always justifies the price, but then we can browse first before buying I guess.....

  13. I would be very supprised if there we're any realy rule changes to the flyers that are not already in the FAQs, New missions are always nice though.

    4. Actually the Storm Raven is not listen for Blood Angels and Grey Knights as vehicles on page 410 of the BRB. They also didn't list Rhinos, Landraiders and Razorbacks because it's all included under generic Space Marine vehicles.

    2. Big monster and a dual-kit chariot...

      Delete
    3. The rumor was for greater daemons and a chariot with bloodletters, there's no way there was confusion and they were talking about WoC kits. Plus, there are already chariots in the Daemons book (in that almost every herald can take one) and we know they are making sure that when books come out all of the models for that book are available. In other words, whenever the daemons codex comes out, there will be a kit for a khorne chariot, likely a palanquin of nurgle, and possibly a tzeentch chariot (though one could argue they sell a herald on a disk and screamers, so you have everything you need to make the chariot with just some jeweler's chain.

  20. I am completely mixed on this. On one hand I think its great that they are updating all these units to bring them in line with the current edition of 40k. I really hope they balance everything out as it would do a lot for the game.

The two main areas I feel that they totally dropped the ball are:

    1) Nothing new/No model release: The only way I would be able (for myself) to justify this product is if there was something new in it like Eldar or Tau flyers to help bring them into 6th ed or adding something for every army to help give them some sort of flyer defense. I would also love to see something like the Harpy get completely redone with maybe a second option (the "new" portion)

    2) FAQ/Errata?: If the only thing this book has is just updated rules for a bunch of flyers from 5th...then why on earth isnt this added to the current FAQs? There is zero reason we should be paying for this product. At the very worst it should have been a White Dwarf insert like the last Demon Update.

Even though most of my armies will be getting updated rules in this there is zero chance I will be buying it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Again, what a stunningly missed opportunity to add new content. How did this project even get approved? How did resources get assigned? This "compendium" will be out of date very shortly - honestly, I think I will NOT buy it just for this reason.

Do they have any gamers with business degree's or any business guys who are gamers there?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If you guys haven't noticed, GW is just trying to test the market; see what they can get away with. It started with the CSM release, with the huge hike in prices for models, then DA, and now especially WoC, where they're selling 10 models for 70 dollars, or a monstrous creature for 100 dollars. This is their way of seeing if the market is okay with them essentially selling FAQ's. Don't buy this book or you're encouraging GW to continue these awful business practices.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Best thing to do is abstain from buying this unless you're a tourney player who uses White Dwarf exlusive flyers (orcs, stormtalons) and needs a legit hard copy. The rest of us won't be missing anything except special scenario rules. Don't expect any changes to existing units besides FAQs and erratas compiled into their current statline.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Forgive me if anyone else has already mentioned this and I've not seen it, but there seems to be a few pages that are 'spare' for want of a better word.

People have predicted that 72 pages is more than enough to cover the flyers that will be updated to 6th or whatever will be happening to them.

But, and this is purely speculation on my part, could they pit on things like allowing flakk missiles to be bought by Space Wolves for example? Or what about the Tyranid bio-whatever its is- gun thing? Maybe give that skyfire or 'flakk spores'

What I'm trying to say, as others have until we get it in our hands or online to view we just don't know

And there's at least been two books out since 6th release.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Games Workshop needs to partner with Amazon and release a special edition Kindle "Witch-Fire" or something. Then they can just put all the updates and books on it.

I know they do this with the Ipads but not everyone has the cash for one or even wants an IOS product. How about the cheaper alternatives.

Don't get me wrong, I love that new content and updates are happening nowadays. It just seems that there are so many rules odds and ends you need to keep track of with a codex, expansion book, faq, White Dwarf rules except, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have heard from some people that there was a WD entry that let Space Marines use the Storm Raven way back when the model first came out. Might be this entry they are redoing.

Still frothing at the mouth that Space Wolves is left out though :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. If spacemarines are getting my stormraven, where is my storm talon and dark talon? They shouldn't say that the stormraven is specific to a chapter then give it to everyone. If a spacemarine player wants a stormraven, they should have to ally with with either BA or GK. So now spacemarines can field both storm flyers and the chapter that is supposed to CONTROLLE THE SKY only get one. Also, Space wolves really should get the storm talon (not thee storm raven because that belongs to us.)

"Superior technology does not guarantee victory unless wielded by a superior being"
could this be implying the Compendium and/or the flyer wave in march?
