  1. Okay I'll admit I haven't fully watched the video yet. But a 5 man tac squad is CHEAPER than a 5 man CSM squad, AND you get a heavy weapon for free?

    1. no, you pay for it. lascannon is 20pts, missile launcher with flakk options is 25.

    2. Ah okay. I was honestly a bit pertrubed at that. What's the sergeant's stats without the vet upgrade? Is he the same statline as the basic marines, or the obligatory +1 ld & attack?

      Delete
    3. same stat line as a normal marine. Vet sergeant upgrade is 10pts I think.

Over all though you can have a 5 man tactical squad with a missile launcher with krak flakk and frag for 95pts. Take those in a list 2000+ and you can do that up to 12 times.

The 5 man tactical that I was so used to seeing in 3rd edition is back.

    4. That doesn't sound so bad at all. I was worried as a Chaos player that Vetock was just gonna try and and one-up every option in the Chaos codex. While what we've heard about Havocs seems to support that, the basic marines seem to have equal benefits and trade-offs.

Unfortunately and minute now, the DA Anon will be back and complaining about how tac squads are too expensive and useless...

      Delete
    5. devastators are also cheap, starting at 70pts. So we should see some of them hitting the tabletop.

    6. I don't think Vetok was going to be permitted to just one-up another Codex for giggles.

GW seems to have a bit more say with these books. They also want the codices to be more of a dartboard, where experimentation and tactical flexibility are important. Min/maxing and finding where the broken sections are to carve out will become a thing of the past.

Bad for WAAC players, better for the community as a whole. I think GW is going the route of WotC with their M:TG sets, where sets before and after are taken into consideration during the design phase. Creates some harmony, balance, and allows every army to offer something unique.

Plus these hardbound, full color books are beautiful to look at. The reference sheet is amazing. 10 years over due, but still amazing.

God I hope you're right. I remain somewhat cynical, but less so that I was.

    8. Its Bad for Waac Players
But those are the ones that make List like longfangspam & razorspam knowen and those are The ones that Inspire others to BuY New Armys and make GW Rich!

I understand everybody is happy when a dex is so Balanced that you dont Even have to think about how you can win against it. But Part of the Hobby is also that the Game keeps changeing & stays intresting. if GKs & crons stay Top for Ever its Not really a Lot of Fun.

For those that think SMs will be Good now with DAs. Look at SM or SW dex and think what Units are in those lists that really win & can DAs really do that better... Or have they just reduced the Cost of Units that Arent comp Even at Less points???
      Think about it!

    1. thats about all that got better -.-

and that its full colore... wich hardly matters caus its poorly coloraited... its basiclly the same book as before

i´m just going to change the point cost on my exel sheet and print out the rules for the new units

GW really not bringing it anymore. If you cant step up youre game GW, don´t hike up the price.
We get termis bikes speeder and flyer that does les than a pred in game... all for a rediculouslly high hiked up price.
Greedy GW cant get enough and gives us more of the same old. Very disapointing uninovativ rules by rat-man Vetok. Ruind the dex for me. A dex should be more than a point reduced version of the old one plus some reinvented units that are lame in game!

everything that sucked in the old dex got cheaper and still sucks... everything new sucks... and the only thing that was good in the old dex TH/SS termis, got more expensiv by a LOT and suck now too -.-
      Big F.. U to Vetok!!!!

now i have to switch to dinobots and chickendrakes -.- OMFG!

Have you been paying any attention to the rules? There are alot of unique rule sets for DA now. They are no longer Codex Marines with Robes On. And how exactly do you know if the units are lame in game?

    5. Uniqe? Or really Old brought back!
      Those are just fluff Things
90% of These New rules & items are for fluffbunnys only! They are Not comp

  3. also noting there natfka that the anti armour flyer also comes with a twin linked lascannon which is S9 so i dont know why everyone is complaining about the lack of power thereand missiles scatter 1D6 is heplful and the 3 hull points means this flyer can take a few hits. also unrelenting hunter makes it very good vs flyer because it can force it into a locked velocity or destroy a weapon on a weap destroyed result meaning you can keep a helldrake from vector striking i think. (dont play chaos)

    1. I pre ordered the digital version and it came last night around 7:30 pm PST which I found interesting.

It looks good and the codex is competitive.

      Delete
    2. no it cant take hits
any dedicated AA an oponent has takes this thing in 1 turn.

las also suck... 1 las gun??? like youre opponent cant evade and lower youre chance by 50% to do take a hull point. I mean 1 good shot for almost 200 points???? are you kiding? good in what way? its sucks on all lvls... even against ground units its pretty lame for the points!

Compare this thing to the daka-jet and you´ll see how complettly FAIL this thing is.

And its to expensiv in real world money

      Delete
    3. The dakkajet it 1-hit kills?

      Delete
    4. a lasconnon will Pen any flyer on a 3+ and then you have a chance at destroying it and then you have the blacksword missiles which may only be STR 6 but if one glances a stormtalon then its dead if your lascannon didn't get a good dmg result. what did you want 3 twin linked lascannons for 180 points?

      Delete
    5. 1D6 missile scatter is good, but the missiles aren't blast? Missile Lock is useless without any blast or large blast weapons.
1 TW Lascannon really isn't going to kill much, maaaaaybe a flyer a turn, if you're lucky. If you're penetrating on a 3+, then 1/3 of the time the best you're going to do is strip a hull point.
Now if the Avenger Mega Bolter was the same as IA: Aeronautica it would be much, much better, and even then too expensive.

      Delete
  4. This codex, much like the CSM one, seems like a dartboard of decent options. There are some competitive pieces within it, but no min/max ultra-bargain cheese.

    1. jeah its just like chaos

      JUST worse!!!

this dex has nothing but some coin flip untis going for it. The old dex was better than this copypast version.

I hate Vetok.... i mean WEAKTOK

    2. "I hate Vetok.... i mean WEAKTOK"

I suppose you're very proud of that, not sure people who've seen Skaven in action will agree, however.

      Delete
    3. "i mean WEAKTOK". You stay up all night think of that gem? You're playing is probably as strong as your literacy skills, that's why you think it sucks.
Tactical Squads are cheaper, and can take Flakk, Devastators are cheap and can also take Flakks. Almost all the SC are cheap as chips, as are Librarians.
Scouts are great at a 60 point objective hold, 70 with +1 to their cover saves.
Deathwing Terminators may be more expensive base, but heavy weapons got cheaper, and you don't need 5 SS anymore. And lets not get started on how good Knights are.
RW Black Knights are fantastic, in every way.
And the Darkshroud provides great synergy with a lot of units.
You're looking at it with face value.

  5. Welcome to the new edition!

Although everyone gripes about magic in fantasy, 8th edition books are all very well balanced, with the slight exception of OK, but even there the meta is developing challenges.

I'm glad GW has approached both systems with a cautionary balance!

Note I don't mean within a single book, rather book against book.

  6. Looks good to me. Pretty excited to see it in action. I don't understand why people are complaining. I haven't seen a valid point against the new codex yet. It's mostly been ill-founded assumptions for units that they haven't personally tested so they assume it's bad. So people, until you see them in action, don't complain. These things don't go through months of testing for nothing. Don't get me started on GK, they weren't OP, even brand new I spanked them with my Raven Guard. There might be one slip up in every ten or so books but it wont break the entirety of the game.

  7. Aye, these new 'dexes seem to require a lot more thought with force composition and how you use the forces at your disposal. The Nephilim strikes me as a bit odd with missiles that at first glance seem the same as the Avenger but with a shorter range, but I'm sure that an errata may make them more useful in time by adjustment, but a lot of the other new units look sound.

Clearly GW are leaning towards forces that now have to work together rather than have several Don units, a few useful choices and the remaining a bunch of waff. People will look at comparing the new books vs the old more unreasonable and whinge that the new books are lacking, but as more new 'dexes are released the playing field will level out to produce a more dynamic game than 5th.

  8. Hoping to get a game in through the week against my friend's DA army - looking forward to seeing how some of the new options play out. Glad that the consensus that's forming seems to be that it's another nicely balanced book with lots of decent options.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ahhh, the Nephilim makes a bit more sense after reading it's page and entry a few times. TL Heavy Bolters, TL Lascannon & 6 missiles by default with the Las being upgraded to the Avenger for a whole lot of S6 PEW; 7 shots inc two missiles and 3 TLed S5 shots. BS5 vs most ground targets.

Now what I don't get is the Missile Lock USR when it's missiles don't have a Blast stat and so don't scatter. Must be left-over from a earlier version where the Neph has air-to-ground blast missiles but was replaced by the Dark Talon?

    1. its also wierd that it doesnt have that option because it has the strafing run option aswell which is good for heavy bolters but not that good for one use missiles.. but it depends if it shoots all 6 at once or 2 at a time

      Delete
    2. If the missiles or avenger were S7, it would be decent. Not good or great, just decent. Without that you are totally reliant on 1 las shot to hurt anything AV12 & up. Great model but a fail on the tabletop. It's the new carnifex. I'm sure they will end up with thousands of them gathering dust in the warehouse.

  10. im sad about my recently bought blood angels army, it looks like i ll have to wait 3 years till the 6th ed blood angels codex is released to get some of the new 6th ed love = point reduction in all army choices, more special rules, relics or artifacts etc that looks like the new style for the new era codices....
blood angels librarian 100 pts, dark angels librarian 65 pts.... welcome to 6th ed, in a couple of codices more the guys in red will be and old unplayable codex as it happened for a long time to the dark angels,

    1. In the case of Dark Angels, it very quickly, with the release of 5th edition and Codex: Space Marines.
Just because you have 100 point Librarians, that can take heaps of powers (Blood Lance, Shield of Sanguinius, Unleashed Rage, Sanguine Sword...), doesn't by any means make them even close to unplayable. In fact, I'd say for easy of playing and strengths, Blood Angels are better even.
Don't worry, I'm sure the next Blood Angel Codex will make Death Company not insanely cheap and good.

      Delete
  11. By the way stop saying tactical squad is cheap, BECAUSE IT'S NOT TRUE! the cost is the same as the sm dex if you buy special weapons and the vet sarge (some weapons are free in the sm dex)

    ReplyDelete

    1. With stubborn and atsknf on ld8, you don't need to spend 10pts of a veteran sarg.
