First off, this all came in yesterday with the release of the August White Dwarf. I had the scans before I even woke up in the morning, and really anyone who was around yesterday was able to get them pretty easily. I was impressed though that GW was able to keep a tight ship on this one. They are definetly working hard at stopping a lot of rumors from slipping out on their side.

The scans are pretty clear, are not just a quick partial picture someone took. If there had just been one of those with only some of the information on it, I could of posted a pic of them. I could do it, but I am not. I am not going to publish the scans, for quite a few of the obvious reasons, nor link to them. Please do not do so in the comments. I am however going to post what Madcowcrazy put together, and it can be found below.

There appears to be no model releases, and the following rules and lists are a good indicator of what is going to be on the horizon with a full codex release sometime next year (so the rumors say). So while playable, many are already calling this White Dwarf release a nerf, its not. It is simply a quick playable means to get Sisters of Battle back onto the field. Players that like Sisters of Battle, can start collecting them now, with a little insight to what cool things might just be in the upcoming codex.

In fact it is kind of nice from a collectors standpoint. You get time to start getting those models going with a sort of pre-release white dwarf codex.

Here is the list via Madcowcrazy. Just so you know, practically all sites I have seen, are this list from Madcowcrazy, whether credited or not.

Sisters of Battle
Army Special Rules
The Acts of Faith system
At the start of your Movement phases you generate D6 Faith Points. Any Faith Points that are unused at the end of YOUR turn are lost.

Tests of Faith
An Act of Faith can be attempted immediately before a Sisters of Battle unit acts during a phase; e.g. before the unit Moves, Shoots (or runs) or Assaults.

Each attempt costs 1 Faith Point, if test if failed the point is lost.

To attempt an Act of Faith, select the unit and reduce your Faith Points by 1, then roll a D6 and add the following:

+1 if the unit is led by a Superior (Sister, Celestian, Dominion or Seraphim) or Mistress of Repentance.

+1 if the unit has been joined by a Canoness, Confessor, Saint Celestine, Uriah Jacobus or Arch-Confessor Kyrinov

+1 if the unit has taken at least 1 casualty

All modifiers are cumulative (so with 1 IC in a unit with a Superior that has taken at least 1 casualty only needs a 2+ to be successful)

If the total is equal to or greater than 5 the Act of Faith is successful, the unit immediately gains a bonus and/or special rules until the end of the phase.

Independent Characters and Acts of Faith

IC that have the Acts of Faith rule benefit from any bonuses received by the unit they are with when an Act of Faith is used, likewise the unit receives any bonuses from the ICs Acts of Faith when they are successful. Note you still have to perform 2 different Tests of Faith if you want to use both the ICs and the units Act of Faith.

10 Comments:

  1. Entirely unimpressed. Aside from the Confessor (Inquisitor) retinue the Sisters lost anything making them even remotely competitive.

No fearless units hanging in combat (aside from Celestians. Expect them to get list spammed).
    No 3++ invulnerable saves.
Oooh, a 6++ for everyone. That's going to save a bunch of T3 models. :/

And if I want to field retinues why not just take a Grey Knights army that is infinitely more powerful?

At least Repentia get a chance to swing back now, but there is still nothing preventing them from just being Splinter Cannoned to death at range.

Oh and Penitent Engines get additional attacks...but not infinite chained? Because that would be too powerful? (But not on a Blood Angel Dreadnought that can assault from a Storm Raven. Ok GW, ok. Nice consistency there.)

I guess the good news is I won't have the "ooh...shiny!" syndrome and be distracted (fooled) into doing this army instead of finishing other projects.

  2. Ups and downs here.. Mostly downs tho :(
6++ on most infantry is nice, tho not astounding with cover as it is currently. I do like that Canoness now have Stubborn but was really expecting Rosarius or something as standard like marines have Iron Halos.

Am I reading right that Sisters get D6 Faith a turn no matter the size of the army? *frowns*
That doesn't make sense and would totally rule out their use in Apocalypse.

  3. This list is the definition of a kick in the pants. The Sisters took it in the shorts. I can only feel that this codex is so ridiculously terrible because they have something going for the final codex whenever it gets printed non-white Dwarf. Of course, that will be some time down the road so my Sisters will get Shelved until then.

  4. Thanks for posting the summary, really enjoy your blog.

These changes combined with no new models feel like a kick in the teeth this this long-time Sisters fan. Suxx.

  5. On the plus side, I see this as....when the codex book comes out it's going to be fricken awesome with angelic legions and supa-blasta pipe organs of death. 'Til then......meh!

  6. Don't forget, this is only the first half. No points or wargear are known yet. What happenes with the Imagifiers now? Book of St. Luc? Is the Immolator's move 12" and fire the flamer part of the twin-linked heavey flamer gear or is it gone? What happened to the psychic nulification that Shield of Faith once provided? Is it somewhere in the wargear now? Too much is unknown to make a final call, but for now ... it is looking a bit rough.

Read the blog post just before this one and tell me the Orders Militant did not just get a royal swirly. As it stands now, SoB have zero psychic defense. If next month does not produce some outstanding wargear and dirt creap points it does not look good for the future of the Witch Hunters.

  7. While I can understand the irritation, what ever happened to having fun? Some of my favorite armies fielded had a win ratio of somewhere around 10%.

No, they're not going to be competitive with the ultra-cheesy FotM. But that shouldn't be a factor that drives design for every codex out there. I'd much rather play lists that stand by their fluff than a bunch of codecies vying to be the cheesiest and most overpowered anyway.

  8. Personally, I love this new list. It's fluffy and I can finally stop hearing gripe from all the players I wipe because my repentias (naked) have a better armour save than their entire armies. The new faith points I've heard conflicting things about, namely that it's d6 per faithful unit, which would be ridiculous, and I've heard what I've seen here. I'd like it to be d6+modifier, something like St. Celestine being included gives +1, etc.

Having played sisters for almost a year now, they have been extremely competitive against modern armies. Just yesterday I wiped a chaos player off the board while only taking two wounds in a five round game. A few months ago it got so bad as to have the group I regularly play with sit down and ask me to stop playing them because they were 'broken'.
