I have been packed up for far too long. We have been on hold from purchasing a new house and moving now for a long time. (short sales take forever). My Dark Eldar were packed up, assuming a move was going to happen in short time, and since this is taking awhile I have decided to break them back out.

So tonight I am hosting a game, and bringing the Dark Eldar out of hiding. This is what I am bringing.

  1. Hi,

The list good apart from a few choices that stick out.

You have pent a lot on combat HQs without good units for the to join. Nearly 20% of your army is in those 2 models. Maybe drop one for another unit.

All the squad leaders (sybarites and solarites) cost 25 pts each, and I don't think they add much. The leadership upgrade will only affect 1 in 9 leadership tests, and the blast pistol is extremely short ranged. Dropping the squad leader upgrades saves you a whopping 150 pts which could be used for more units of expanding some of you units.

Lastly the incubi seem extremely small, why not more, particularly if either of the HQs are going to join them.

Why he webway portal, as only the big warrior squad and beastmaster units can come through it.

My recommendation would be to lose the archon, and squad leaders to get a haemonoculus and wyches for Vect to join, and increase the incubi unit so they can act on their own to give you three credible assault units (incubi, wyches with Vect, beastmasters).

  2. Wow, that's quite some list! How effective are the Blast Pistols? I've been talked out of using them on account of their short range (when taken on a Sybarite grouped in with 9 Kabalite Warriors

    1. I think blast pistols are situational. They are only in the units that I expect to be close and in the enemies face.

    2. Ah ok, so they could work attached to Wych units?

    3. they could, but wouldnt you rather have wyches fleeting and assaulting? Put in haywire grenades for armour instead of a blast pistol.

Not to mention it gets those hard to keep alive units hidden when they assault the vehicle and further into your enemy lines. You just need to damage the vehicle.

    3. I started 40k in 1998. Dark Eldar were my first army.

  4. I notice a lack of flicker-field on the vehicles while not necessary does provide better protection. There are a lot of vehicle I and know how hard it can be to remove DE from their Raider I would think this list would have sight problems against Tau or IG if they had proper targeting priorities but on the flip side they have so many targets to chose from that could be a problem for them. So I guess my main question would be how well does it fair against a horde army that can crack vehicles with relative easy and still have the ablity to out number and out melee you?

    1. Dark Eldar in general have an serious issue against armour, especially a lot of it. The list was designed do deal with that.

However, there is enough to deal with hordes (just not a head on fight, but dark eldar do not do that well against any army). There are also some pretty extreme close combat elements. Dual Archons and beast master unit.

Do not forget that after weakening a squad, Raiders set to tank shock are good against low leadership horde type units.

As with any dark eldar army, you are almost always going to be outmatched in a head to head fight. You just cannot do it. Unless your opponent is awful of course.
