Take a look at the image above. Now that we have all these images of the first round of necrons, it was time to look into the details. While the background of most of the images just shows a Monolith or two, there is a group of flyers behind the Necron Lord. They appear behind Trazyn the Infinite as well.

The one vehicle that we do not know really much about is the Night Scythe, a fast moving flyer (fast, skimmer for now). Here is what we know from rumors on this vehicle .

Please remember that these are still rumors. We should have codex information already, but I have not seen any, or heard first hand information on this vehicle.

• Night Scythe: Fast, skimmer (not open-topped). A variant of the Doom Scythe fighter that is a 15 model flyer transport with the 'supersonic' 36" flat-out move that the new flyers (that are really skimmers) have. Can carry jump infantry models (taking up 2 spots each) and fire all its weapons even when moving at cruising speed. Has living metal (chance to ignore crew shaken & stunned) but not quantum shielding (which gives +2 armor until the vehicle suffers its first glancing or penetrating hit). AV 11/11/11 like most Necron vehicles. Has a Twin-linked Tesla Destructor as its weapon.

The transport is done by a wormhole gateway on the underside, the only access point. If the Night Scythe is destroyed, the embarked unit is not deployed, but instead goes back into reserves to arrive normally (i.e. it can't deep strike even if the unit has that rule). This can suck pretty bad for an expensive unit to suddenly get sucked back into Reserves, but remember as long as you have at least one Monolith in your force, you can use its Portal to pull that unit out of Reserves at the start of your next movement phase, so it isn't all that bad!

  1. Thanks for the info, Natfka. I really like the whole dropship/helicopter concept like the Valkyrie, Stormraven and Nightscythe.

  3. A not open topped vehicle to carry your CC units and if it gets destroyed they go back to reserves? Don't like the sound of it to be honest. Better steal the Ghost Arc from some warriors then.

  4. Anyone else got the Stargate Theme playing in their head when they see these?

That's so close to a Goa'uld Death Glider I can almost see Richard Dean Anderson turning up at GW to do an O'Neill cameo, launching another SG spin off. ;o)

  5. According to GW
    (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440160a&prodId=prod1380038a)
the Immortals and Deathmarks can take the Night Scythe as a dedicated transport. Pretty sure they can lay some sweet ranged smack downs if they get right into the fray with their rapid fire guns, thanks to this fun sounding transport (which seems like it has a better chance of getting within rapid fire distance than their now-weakened T4 bodies do); I don't know why you guys think this is for CC units only (unless GW contradicts itself somewhere I don't know of).

Already looking forward to bouncing some Immortals and Deathmarks around through my 'liths and Night Scythes. And that's just the beginning... November is gunna be fun! :D

  6. How, in the name of Holy Terra, are Destroyers jump infantry and not jetbikes? Does that make sense to anyone?

  7. Nope. Nor does it make any sense to bump the squad size down to 3.

  8. There is a better image of those flyers in the white dwarf hidden at page 16 in the grey picture from the necron codex.(the bottom of the page)

  9. They look very similar to some of the Necron ships from Gothic which is a shame.

  10. the idea that destroyers are jump infantry rather than jetbikes is simple, just adjust ur thinking to comprehend the new codex.forget the old learn the new

  11. It will definately be interesting to see how this turns out, more and more the Necron army is looking to be a sight to behold

  12. @Anonymous (12;09), I don't know about that, looking at the size of the model and the role it plays I'd say that Jetbike is far more appropriate than Jump Infantry. Not to mention the loss of Turbo Boosting into position.
