Mysterious Behavior at a GW Store

Today, someone saw a local store packing a lot of things to be sent back to Nottingham. In the box going back were quite a few items. Here is what one reader saw.

please remember that these are rumors. Its interesting to keep on top of what goes back to HQ to make room for new items. Let the speculation begin.

I was 10 minutes ago in my local GW Store and the store manager got the order to send back to nottingham a huge amount of stuff.
In his 3 big papercard boxes i saw the Fantasy Ork bataillon box, many different datacards and psicards, nearly all finecast models, many Dark Eldar stuff and much more. He think it will be for reboxing them. We will see.

  1. So, some fantasy, old rules cards, and finecast. Pretty much what rumors have been saying are on the way out.

  2. It could also be that some of these items are moving to online only

  3. could just be that one particular store isnt doing too well and theyre shrinking it... or another store has somebody who wants to buy those things

  4. yeah my local GW shop was advertising on FB the other day "last chance to get the following" (now i cant remember the specifics as i only paid attention to the blood angel stuff) i messaged them and asked what was going on and he said it was just stuff that was getting re-boxed and getting the bigger 32mm bases. and the other stuff was just repackaging.

  5. Or they just run out of Space or want to make room for the newest Models, like the upcoming Skitarii. Like every little Warheouse Manager would do so when he expected Stuff which would be fast Sold out. Oh yeah one GW is sending stuff back. my local GW does this once a month with stuff they haven't sold till then to make more room for new stuff.

  6. Loads of stores in the local area have been doing this and freely advertising so on their Facebook page, stating 'when it's gone it's gone'. Included dwarf battalion set, some hard back fantasy books. Particularly books on fantasy history such as high elf heraldry. Few bit of 40k some space marine stuff. Most of it's to make shelf space and move on stuff that's not selling.

  7. I was in my local GW store last weekend and she had a LARGE amount of stuff she said she was sending back. Oddly, she didn't mention the Khorne codex, even vaguely; after I mentioned I was a Chaos 40K player, and was drifting away from the hobby and the only thing keeping me around were the Horus Heresy novels. Even just alluding to a new release for that I might care about would have made sense.

  8. My GW sends stuff back all the time. It's never amounted to anything.

  9. There has been tons of plastic kits for both fantasy and 40k listed on the online store as online only for over a month now. It's about time they sent the stuff back.

  10. Happened at my local too, same shit

  11. It cost more to ship that stuff back, as someone who worked for GW we were told to "destroy" the product and mark it as known loss

  12. Its just for the stuff which doesnt sell well they are moving it to online only and having space open for newer and more popular kits

  13. It’s very likely stuff being sent back for the web store and GW stocking. My own GW store sent back a metric ton of stuff, and the rep who works there affirmed that almost all finecast models were going to direct-only.

  16. Well to add to all the mysterious behavior that GW is doing. I was assisting my local game store owner while he was on a call with his GW rep, and he was asking a lot of odd questions, like would he be able to sell FW if he was to stock it. And is there a demand for FW in our local area. He was also talking about a whole sale price for retail stores to carry FW from books to other items. The Rep finished by saying nothing is set in stone yet. But they are researching for now. Seemed more then research talk to me.

  17. I sent an email about this over a week ago - which included news the TOMBS KINGS book was scheduled to be cancelled.

  18. Finecast becoming direct-only slightly before being discontinued altogether? Gee, never saw that coming (even though GW announced back in 2011 that it will only be a short-term stopgap on the way to all-plastic product lines, and even though they have not released any new FC figures for 40K or FB* for quite some time now). /sarcasm

Next someone is probably going to break the "news" that LOTR/Hobbit is going direct-only and no more figures will be produced for the system.

  19. GW make some interesting stock decisions. The one i find a little quirky is for Fantasy Orcs they stock Savage Orcs but not Orc Boyz. The rationale I guess was that Savage Orcs are newer and this drives people to buy the Batallion box in store. However if the Batallion box is no longer being stocked in store... hmmm... this is more interesting as a clear out before 9th or Skirmish.

  20. There's a stock return every year about this time, removing low selling lines from stores etc

  21. Well, the nottingham store is refurbishing and redoing their store and galleries etc, so it would make sense that they might need more stock once it is finished in May.

    1. Trust me, they don't need more stock. Right behind the shop is a massive warehouse full of stuff.
