The Next 40k Campaign

Its a given that Necrons are the next 40k codex release. It can also be assumed that we will not see another codex release until the next campaign set starts up, which looks according to the latest rumors to be sometime around the end of April or beginning of May.

If you are keeping up on the comment section, you will know that Nightfury sometimes chimes in there with a little bit of information. This is what he was saying today about the time frame for the next campaign.

Please consider these rumors.

I think the big question will be, who will be in this upcoming campaign? Chaos Marines? Dark Angels? Maybe even the Adeptus Sororitas?

The next campaign will start in late April or early May

  1. Maybe it'll be the Tau VS Iyanden story, with a little bit of the Dark Eldar shenanigans that where involved. That could be cool

  2. i'd like to see xenos vs xenos, or xenos vs chaos. just something that isnt the imperium vs non-imperium

    1. With you there Scuzgob. Although I doubt it'll happen. There will almost always be an Imperium faction in every campaign.

    2. Valedor was xenos vs xenos, wasn't it?

      Delete
    3. Well Imperium sells, and they are the "main character" in 40k.

That said something like Astra Militarum VS someone else would be cool. Doesn't need to be power armor all the time

      Delete
    4. First Volume of Red Waugh was Astra Militarum/Knights vs Orks. No power armour until 2nd and 3rd installments

      Delete
    5. yeah but valedor didnt have a special campaign box with unique miniatures.

imperial guard would be nice to see too

      Delete
    6. IG vs Chaos, with a twist of SoB.

      Delete
    7. I would be okay with any imperium faction that is not a space marine chapter. IG, SoB, Inquisition, tempestus, maybe even adeptus mechanicus would be really cool. on the other side it would be great to have any xenos or chaos faction, but prefferably daemons or necrons

    8. I imagine we'll continue to see power armor simplky because in important conflicts the IoM tends to follow a pattern of "Imperial guard takes the brunt of the first assau;t, space Marines show up and help win a crucial battle or two then leave the gaurd to mop up.

  4. To be fair, and nothing against you Nightfury, but you've only gotten one thing right so far and that's the inclusion of the Broodlord in the Deathstorm box (that was your original guess, which you then changed to say it was going to be a lictor).

I've got my salt handy on this one, despite how vague it is.

    1. Nightfury is pretty close to the mark most of the time. The Deathstorm box info was provided with the provisio that he's not too familiar with Tyranids. They're all so hunched and pointy, you know...

      Delete
    2. Besides that he is not even saying much in this one. Is he even talking 40k?

I dont see any reason why dexes should be campain bound from now? And he doesnt give any reason.

If anything people that.buy 4-5 Books dont buy as much other GW stuff. And the way these Books have been limited so far is not really great sales either.

  5. The first dexes of the 6th were... CSM, DA, CD in this order...
A campaign of DA vs CSM and CD pushing forward the Dark Vengeance story would be welcome...
In particular cause it could be useful to release these Three dexes updated For the 7th Edition toning down the demons and making a better work on DA (overcosted units and useless units/equipment to fux) and CSM ("traits" For the Legions to add here)...

    1. I play CSM, but I would like if Tau or Eldar get a new codex soon. Time to reduce the power of stuff like the wave serpent or riptides a bit, those two codexes stick out from the rest.

      Delete
    2. What needs to be toned down with Daemons?

      Delete
    3. Ok I can understand the issues with the wave serpent but the Riptide? Riptides can be hurt by basic weapons fire if you throw enough at them and the fact they aren't fearless means you can just frighten the thing away.
And in my opinion most of the greater daemons need buffing.
(At least so they stand a chance in melee vs dreadnoughts)

      Delete
    4. You know I am actually against traits for the legions. Firstly because the legions are more or less no longer coherent armies, and I think it could be done differently.

When the SM 6th codex was mad they hadn't begun the whole "Special FOC" stuff.
I think the Legions could be solved better with FOCs, as it's can put the proper restrictions on the army. (As in World Eaters can't take Mark of Nurgle, Tzeench or Slaanesh)

And since GW is removing "Counts as troops" these FOCs could have Elites as mandatory instead of troops etc.

This could be done through a Supplement, that told the story of the change of the chaos legions, istead of focusing on one specific army, then have a bunch of FOCs and formations.

    5. @theDjbz
all Monstrous Creatures have fearless. And while I dont think he is OP I would like to his points go up a bit.

      Delete
    6. Mark, I hate to tell you, but all monstrous creatures are not fearless. Most of them have fearless (or some near equivalent) granted by some other rule (Hive mind, demonic instability, etc), but it is not inherent to the type. I have broken many riptides in close combat.

      Delete
    7. Well right now daemons are mostly winning on grimoire/nurgle princes 2+ jink/summoning daemonettes/flesh hounds and screamers going with belakor. If you tone that down, daemons will be very weak. Don't get me wrong I would really love to see daemon codex reworked to have a good internal balance like for example IG has, but i also don't want them to be bad and weak..

On the matter of riptides, yes, it is not as bad as a wave serpent, but i do think that riptide needs a slight point increase to make it not an autopick, like the vendetta is now in IG. Probably the same goes for missile broadsides...

    8. I'm quite certain even the Tyranid Dimachaeron in all of it's CC holiness and near Angrath(named bloodthirster, did I get the name right?) levels of amazing. Is not fearless, unless near a synapse creature.

      Delete
    9. I would say riptides are fine, as long you do not take entire army of them. But that is a problem of lots of things.

      Delete
    10. I sincerely doubt we'll get new codexes. rather I think GW'll sue campaign books to update current codexes. much like what we're seeing with 'nids. if so I'd expect the next campaign to feature 6th edition armies and bring them up to par with formations and detachments. well CSMs and Dark angels is a nice guess my guess is it'll be CSMs and vanilla marines.

      Delete
    11. If they continue the crimson slaughter story I'll be really annoyed, they have several perfectly awesome legions that seem to be abandoned, a lot of people still try to play as those legions even without rules support.

I am all for the campaigns though and a slow cycle of codex's, however i would like to see csm (with equivalent of chapter tactics for legions), daemons redone. Tau is fine imo, haven't really felt they were overpowered in a while, maybe mid 6th.

Eldar could probably use an update as well, but they don't need a lot of change, I don't feel like they are as bad as people seem to think I'd like enjoy seeing their fancy infantry carry more of the weight,

  8. Nothing against Nightfury, hes made some good calls, but he also recently posted 'wait until you see the BA supplement'.. which suggests he didnt have access to accurate info that time. I wouldnt be shocked to see this latest rumor become truth.. but dont forget the salt.

    1. The supplement is the campaign book 3 obviously.. i had a look at small images of a bunch of dataslates and the additional formations and relics/warlord traits included so umm yeah.. even though its got some necron stuff its still a a BA supplement.. take things however you want my source is legit and my infos are always correct though sometimes not specific so i have to make inferred judgements based on my own knowledge with honestly isn't that great considering until this year i hadn't looked at anything GW related since 1999

    2. nightfury, Exterminatus isn't the final campaign book? I had figured it was the finale of the series.

      Delete
    3. Yes Exterminatus is the finale.. based on a few images of dataslates albeit tiny icon sized images my assumption was that they were from a BA exclusive supplement not the Codex.. though Exterminatus is not BA exclusive rules/data/relics n traits it can still very much be considered a BA supplement.. what really got my attention was the special rule that confers assaulting directly after deepstriking.. i certainly hope to find someway to piggyback that rule to my Rout ;-)

  9. 30 quid hardback replaced by another 30 quid hardback in a span of 18 months.

    GW loves us very much.

    1. I VERY much doubt they'll be issueing new codexs. my money's on campaign books that provide "updates"

  10. Necrons vs Sisters of Battle would be cool. Tomb World versus Shrine World with a bit of Inquisition as well. Shame they have not done this as part of the current campaign.

    1. To add to this in one of the Sisters of Battle novels there is the above plus Mechanicum looking for artefact / forbidden tech. That would be a good mix.

  11. Also.. though not definite.. the talk around the offices.. or so I've heard is that the "storm" motif is likely to continue with following campaigns.. the 2 "names" i heard voiced were Darkstorm and Storm Machine... take that however you like.. this obviously just conjecture and rumour until something is put to print but i do know that the exclusive models for the next campaign are already produced..what they are i can only guess at

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1. storm motif seems likely
      2. storm machine looks like a placeholder title before something better is "invented" to better suit the content.
      3. yes it is conjecture/speculation at this point
      4. if you know they are produced already you should have a rough estimate or approximation thereof the potential models in some vague way.
      5. suggests you don't know. as needing to guess means you don't know for certain one way or the other, and guessing isn't knowing.
      ✔ ⅹ
      1. storm ✔
      2. storm machine- placeholder title: ✔ [otherwise doesn't seem likely x]
      3. x
      4. ✔/x
      5. x/✔

it is several months away, most can only accurately describe that which is closer to release. not saying i don't believe, rather salt is needed. again not saying you are wrong, but you could be.

    2. Dais of Destruction would fit either... :)

    3. Strom
      Or knight

      Always a GW favourit.
So what? Youre not even makeing slightest rumors. Its like saying nothing.

      Delete
    4. He's just sayin what he's heard, not what's "going to be". Like i heard they're doing away with finecast. I've not spoken to any GW officials but i've spoken to people who have and this is what they told me. If people refuse to believe then that's up to them. No big deal.

The problem with people on these forums they always want to take rumours as gospel, and if something is even slightly off everyone cries "shenanigans!".

Give him a break and stop judging him as a false prophet - he's only telling us what he's heard. If he's right then fair play, if not then he was wrong and so what?

Its not like he's VotCG saying he's guaranteeing everything and trying to take make a name for himself in the community. You all seem quite childish to me looking for these kind of people to hold your hands and tell you everything's going to be ok and cross the road only when you're told. Look up the definition of a rumour and act/expect accordingly please.

    5. My advice to you Nightfury is to just msg Natfka when you think you know something buddy. He'll post it up as "from an anonymous source" and if it hits it hits, if it doesn't it doesn't - and no-one will care either way as they'll be forgotten in the fabric of time as all the other rumours are after their associated releases.

Keep up the good work buddy - its a thankless task. (",)

  12. My guess is it'll be CSMs vs Space Marines. it'll feature some new units, mostly for CSMs and provide some special formations and a new detachment for each. this is based on the guess that rather then introduce new codexes they'll instead use the campaigns to update the 6th edition books adding formations and detachments. and maybe new units where approperate too
