With Battletome: Ogor Mawtribes up for pre-order now, you won’t have long to wait before you can start building punishing armies of your own. We couldn’t wait, so we made a few examples – a starter course, if you will. Each one is 2,000 points or less, and features vastly different play styles.

Beastly Banquet

Built around a core of not one, but two Start Collecting! Beastclaw Raiders boxes, there’s enough pure damage-dealing here to dismantle nearly anything.

The Eurlbad Warscroll Battalion makes already-deadly units even more destructive, with natural 6s to hit causing an automatic mortal wound. When you consider how many dice the Stonehorns roll to hit in each turn – 15-18 with some luck – that’s reliable extra damage.

When you absolutely must take out a tough unit, hang your Mournfangs back with your Huskard to add 1 extra Damage with their Tusks when they charge (bringing the total to 3, combined with the Mournfang Charge ability they’ve already got), not to mention re-rolling wound rolls thanks to the Thunderbellies’ Rip and Tear command ability!

Add a Gorger for some additional harassment, or taking out key targets, and you’ve got a lean, fast army that will smash just about anything it’s up against.

Thunder from Down Under(ground)

We’ve mentioned the impressive firepower of Underguts Leadbelchers already, shooting a full 18″ instead of 12″, plus a command ability that adds 1 extra attack for Ironblasters units if an Underguts leader is close by… This list takes full advantage of these boons, plus adds some support with a mobile element to counter any slippery manoeuvres.

This will give you a solid core of 16 Leadbelchers, each firing D3 attacks. Maintain a static gunline to double the fire rate to D6…

Now add 3 Ironblasters for some high-quality, versatile firepower – shooting either a Cannon Ball or Hail Shot each turn – and you’re putting the hurt on everything from big monsters to heavy infantry.

Keep a Butcher close to each Ironblaster to do two things: ensure you can take advantage of the Thunderous Salvo ability on the Ironblaster of your choosing to add an extra Attack, and cast Voracious Maw to literally chew through your enemies…

Toss in the contents of the Start Collecting! Beastclaw Raiders box for a couple of fast units that produce a fair bit of ranged and melee power on their own, then you’ve got an extremely strong gunline that can feed the enemy right into its devastating jaws.

Gnoblar Stew

Your opponent might laugh when you deploy 180 Gnoblars, at first… You’ll have enough points spare to add a highly mobile hammer to strike against the anvil of your massive mobs. This army is all-but-guaranteed to confound even savvy enemy generals, but it’s especially amazing against hordes.

Those three huge units of Gnoblars will dish out an extra melee attack as long as they remain over 10 models!

The Junkmob means you’ll want to park the Gnoblar Scraplaunchers between your three blocks of Gnoblars, and point them at enemy horde units – they’ll each get 4 Attacks, hitting on 3+, causing D3 Damage each. That should soften up big units before they get too close, in which case your Firebellies will threaten them with Cascading Fire-cloak…

Choose the Winterbite Mawtribe to add a tricky strike force, on top of granting those Gnoblars some shelter from incoming missile weapons. -1 to Hit with missile weapons should keep the unit numbers up for some time!

Your 2 Icebrow Hunters can use the Winterbite Mawtribe’s Command Ability, Howl of the Wild, to ensure one unit of Icefall Yhetees or Frost Sabres can strike first in crucial scraps, and your general’s Command Trait, Wintertouched, adds 1 to their wound rolls to boot! Anything your Gnoblars can’t handle, these capable hunters can.
