In the Beginning

The origins of Behemat and his sons lie in the Age of Myth. Little is known about this time of gods, monsters, and legends – the gargants themselves are not renowned keepers of history, and much was lost as Chaos rampaged across the Mortal Realms. However, some legends remain that hint at the origins of this titanic terror.

The Mortal Realms are inhabited by several creatures of vast power known as Godbeasts. Inextricably linked to the realms and imbued with vast power, these creatures have shaped the Mortal Realms through great deeds and monstrous rampages. The Duardin god Grimnir, for instance, was shattered by the flame-spewing Godbeast known as Vulcatrix, while Sigmar himself was found in the aetheric void by the stellar drake known as Dracothion. Ymnog – the ancient and terrible grandfather of the gargant race – was one such Godbeast.

Ymnog

Ymnog was one of the first Godbeasts – it’s said that the land, sea, and sky in the Mortal Realms were parted from each other by a shattering blow from his club. After this, it’s claimed that he fell into a great slumber, and the first gargants grew within his vast belly. It was the gargant known as Behemat that helped his kin escape, brewing a lake of moonshine in the marshlands of his father’s guts, causing Ymnog to retch the first gargants into his mouth. Behemat escaped by hammering through the teeth of his father, shattering them – where they fell, the first mountains of the Mortal Realms were formed. Ymnog would go on to be slain by Sigmar – but for Behemat, the story had just begun.

Behemat

As a Godbeast himself, Behemat was a creature of vast power and size, known to many as the World Titan. Stories told by gargants of the Age of Myth recount a rivalry between Behemat and Gorkamorka, foremost god of Destruction who reshaped the realms. The gargants claim that duardin are short because Behemat stamped them flat or that the men of Shyish have no meat on their bones because Behemat ate it all, but one can assume there is little truth in these tales. However, one thing is for sure – Behemat is a legend among the gargant race.

Behemat would eventually meet his end during the Realmgate Wars, slain by the Celestant-Prime with a single blow from Ghal Maraz. The death-echoes of Behemat have had a strange effect on the gargants of the Mortal Realms, causing them to grow larger and larger in size, and giving rise to the Mega-Gargants. Some even claim that one day, another World Titan will arise from the ranks of the Sons of Behemat…

Battletome: Sons of Behemat will be out soon with the full story of Behemat, Ymnog, and the gargant tribes of the Mortal Realms.
