Space Wolf Cover Codex Cover

While this is not a whole lot yet to see, I just love the codex covers we have seen since the onset of 6th edition. Very powerful imagery, and the Space Wolf one will be no exception. Here is a brief (I wish I had more on this) description of it.

The above pictures is not the codex cover, and is from the teaser video Games Workshop released this morning.

Please remember that this is a rumor, from a very good source.

    1. The cover of Blood of Asahiem does have a warrior with a Bolter and primitive power sword. Don't let your hopes drop yet.

    2. The blood of Asahiem cover was a space wolf of the deathwatch. he was not in the primary colors of the chapter

    3. No he wasn't. The description fits pretty well actually

    5. Really Rolz?..check out the shoulder pad..Big I on it..definitely Deathwatch, although the rest of his armor is pack stuff.

    6. One of the characters has recently finished his service with the Deathwatch. I would assume it to be him on the cover of BoA.

    7. They can Photoshop the novel cover

    9. When a member of the deathwatch returns home to his chapter he can and likely will retain the silvered pauldron of the DW after repainting his armour in the colours and heraldry of his chapter

    10. nightfury is right, although I wouldn't think GW would put an ex-Death Watch character on the cover.
Really though hasn't all the other 6th/7th covers had new artwork?

    11. CSM cover was from the novel Blood Gorgons I believe, and the cover to Blood of Asaheim looks to be in the same style as the other pieces of cover art, so it could be.

  2. Did we need another post for that? :)

  3. Did the person just not know when to use "an" instead of "a" and just overcompensated by using it every time? :P

  4. Wait let me guess the cover also has snow but is mostly dark with a grim feel to it...

  5. If the cover is showing a SW with a bolter and a power sword, that could mean we keep our bolter, pistol ccw combo.

  6. It's part of the artwork series that was done for the entirety of the new hardcover codei, it will fit the scape, if you place the current dexs' side by side you'll see what I mean, I have a friend who is an exec in their administratum publicae who has been teasing me with bits here and there, if I get a juicy morsel ill be sure to share

  7. This rumor makes me hopeful we will get our true grit rule back. In my mind, there is something inherently cool about shooting an oversized bolter one-handed while wielding a sword/axe in the other. Admittedly it wouldn’t be as effective as the current loadout of bolter, bolt pistol, and close combat weapon, but still it would nearly achieve the same result, and would also save me and I assume many others the need to hack models apart to make them WYSIWYG for the potentially new loadout.
Also as an aside, I find it ironic that when the 5th edition codex came out I had to hack off all my grey hunter squad’s 2nd plasma pistols in favor of the 2nd special weapon option. Now it looks like I might need to hack some more arms off to get the 2nd plasma pistol back.

    1. dont get your hopes up just because of a cover.

GK had true grit aswell in 3rd and lost it in 5th. and they were using friggin storm bolters.

    2. or you could just buy some more wolves and add all the PP's to them. might save time/effort but will cost a bit of $. an idea only mind you

    3. I like your thinking Xenos_Inferno, only problem for me is: I painted each squad in varying shades of shadow grey to try to make them a little more distinct beyond the shoulder pad pack markings. For me the thought of trying to match colors seems more challenging then snipping weapons off.
This might be good incentive to finally paint up my pewter wulfen figurines and then magnetize the pistol on my current counts-as wulfen so he could swap out for a plasma pistol if desired. The old Wulfen figurines just have scraps of armour, so it probably wouldn’t be as noticeable when their color scheme is slightly off.

  8. After Codexes Adepta Sororitas, Militarum Tempestus, and Astra Militarum, I would be very surprised if the codex was called something as generic as "Space Wolves" instead of the oh so copyrightable "Vlka Fenryka".

(The reason why there still was Codex: SPESS MEHREENS instead of Codex: Adeptus Astartes was probably that the book (and everything related) was already in the presses when the Chapterhouse verdict came and would have been too costly to recall anymore.)

    1. Well ill admit I like the idea of Codex Vlka Fenryka.

    2. Except that very few new players would pick it up because it sounds Russian instead of the imagery that Codex: Space Wolves conveys. Regardless of fanboy fanaticism the name sells it without needing to explain in detail why it has that name.

    3. So did Imperial Guard and Sister of Battle and they still changed.

    4. Apparently FW never got the memo on the Imperial Guard..still the IG over there.

    5. I'd love to see Codex: Space Marines be changed to Codex: Astartes.

  9. Only space wolves could go on and make a power weapon look primitive.

  10. The tag line for this release is "wolf time", and isn't a certain, rather important character in Space Wolves history supposed to reappear during Wolf Time?
