  1. Looks like Sagas are going to be Warlord Traits now

    1. Gods! I hope not! Saga's are one of the main things that makes Space Wolves feel like Vikings in Space.

All that was needed with Saga's is an actual penalty if you dont live up to your Saga. Turning them in to a Warlord trait is going to be bad and will destroy the character of the generic characters.

    2. With you 100% brother. Sagas are what make the characters of the Vlka Fenryka great. Allfather please dont let this be true.

    3. Good, sagas should be a warlord trait... Sagas are literally the trait of the Space wolf lord. Now well finally see a saga other than saga of the bear/warrior born being used...

    4. Omg!
      Their OP thing gets nerfed.
      "Finally balanced". Says everyone els.
      What did you expect buffs?
      Not since CSMs.
You need to wait for SW supplememts.
Its the only way to be OP now.

    5. Not sure I'd say sagas are "OP", they're the same things other codexes get in their relic/equipment sections.

    6. if they get flying stuff, or able to use talon/raven, then some sort of de-buff has to be added. increased mobility = de-buff to "Saga/traits" to compensate. if that's the case then Saga- WLT is a good thing, also no one knows what the traits will be, might be same as Saga's in current dex might be something new...

    7. I would be very sad to see these go to warlord traits.

I uae saga of the hunter more than any other and the only one that I don't really use it iron. It helps to make up for our lack of honour guard and command squads and adds a ton of flavor to our army.

There are so many marine units we don't get, why take away one of the hand full of things that make SW unique. Also, having to roll for a saga that may make zero sense in your army just seems wrong. (Yeah, wolfkin in my all dp army, woot)

    8. Couldn't of put it better myself Tony. Its taking the heart and soul out of the army. The sagas are the to make up for what the other chapters have access to. But maybe this is GWs way forward in an attempt to bring balance. I dont think it will work.

  2. I'm feeling more and more nervous about our new codex :( I can't shake the feeling GW is going to stick it to us wolf players in the poop chute.

    1. Yep. The Codices seem a lot more standardised now, with some of the flavour gone. I'm scared for my Dark Eldar and rules like Power From Pain or Combat Drugs.

    2. Its called Balance.
Everything good now will be points up. Everything very meeeh right now will be cost down, playable.
How is that sticking it to you? If other players can injoy playing against you?
Its not like you cant add knights and use formations if you really need to Stick it to others!

    3. You can't say it's called balance in the case of Dark Eldar. We're hardly top-tier tournament dominators.

      Delete
    4. Hell, I don't even want us to be top-tier! I just want us to keep our flavour and I feel many Space Wolf players would say the same.

      Delete
    5. If balance is what is removing flavor from lists, maybe I don't want it. Glad
My sisters aren't seeing an update anytime soon

    6. Based on points cost: Wolfguard in TDAx5 1 with stormbolter and frost sword, 1with ThunHam and SShield, 1 with heavy flamer and pf, 1 with stormbolt and chainfist and 1with sbolter and pf=230 points

      5x blood claws with boltpistols & chainsword, 1pf and 1 plaspistol frag&krak
      =110 pts

5x grey hunters with boltpistols frag &krak
      1-power axe, 1plas pistol and chainsword,1 plasma gun and 2with boltguns=125 points

finally we have a wolflord with frag&krak, belt of russ, boltpistol(not master crafted!?) Regular power armour, acute senses, atsknf, counter attack, furious charge,IC,and stubborn- saga of the warrior born and special frost axe-Wyrmclaw +2 S ap2 melee mastercrafted and unweildy coming in at 135points- can't say based on this just how much hunters, guard, lords and bloodclaws got hit with the nerfbat or possibly a buff, there's nothing about any additional gear that could be taken or not-looking at you gravitons, bloodclaws have the same horrible stat line and with that pack of 5(without doing anything but basic math) avg 22pts per model not sure if they are same point cost or better/worse, if anybody wants to weigh in lets hear what you think

      Delete
    7. We'll with the blood claws the power fist is 25 pts and the plasma pistol is 15 then you are looking at 14 points per model.

The grey hunters weighing in at 16 points per model if all the mentioned upgrades cost 15 points each.

And the wolf guard terminators look to be the same as standard terminators in price (assuming 5pt chain fist and 25 pt flamer).

      Delete
    8. Actually the heavy flamer is probably less as I forgot the thss. But changes the base cost in no way.

Does this differ from the current dex?

    9. I don't own the 5th edition dex, just found my old metal wolves from the 90's back in february of this year and after asking a good friend who is a high level exec in the industry about upcoming releases she told me a new book would be out this summer so don't waste my $ on the outdated soft cover one. Seems like the blood claws might have gone down a point or 2 per base model if your math is correct

      Delete
    10. Keep in mind those numbers are directly from the sanctus reach stormclaw army list not any info from the new dex though i can't imagine why the numbers would be different between the two, should be giving us decent insight into what unit costs will be in the new SW codex though

      Delete
    11. should be a given to wait until further info is released before buying anything, if you want rules to get you by download battlescribe. [google it] a roster Editor, has majority of last codex of 6th, in addition to BRB/LRB you don't really need a dex.....just a suggestion

    12. Well based on that apps data, ty Xenos btw much appreciated :) it looks like wolf guard went down 25points, generic wolflord with same loadout is 50points more so that's huge, bloodclaws dropped a point per model and grey hunters went up 10points for that loadout, since grey hunters are probably the best all around troops choice in the game up until now i expected them to go up a point or two hopefully we'll keep the extra special weapon to justify the points increase, since bloodclaws only dropped 1point per model i wonder if that's enough to inspire more spots in the lists, wolfguard going down in cost is a huge surprise leading me to think they got hit hard with a nerf or are now even better then the already awesome unit they were...hmmm so much to consider

      Delete
    13. Old TDA Wolfguard paid too much for upgrades to the point that they were more expensive than Deathwing for popular loadouts like TH&SS.

There is no reason for Grey Hunters to be cheaper than tactcal marines, but they should have to pay 2ppm for a ccw like Chaos does.

Theres a lot of stuff that can be tweaked for Space Wolves. I just hope that pointswise, they are compliant with Dark Angels and Vanilla, and to an extent CSM. Also Saga's need to remain as upgrades instead of being a random chart to roll on ;(

      Delete
    14. It is hard to base anything points wise on this limited data..Wolves have always been very flexible points wise. So relax until we see the Dex. As long as GH don't get some big nerf bat the WG and Claws are not that important. If the WG go down that is a huge plus. I want to see the vehicle points and all the various extra stuff to make any kind of decision here.

    15. Overall I don't like Warlord traits as they are often implemented. At times you have stuff that is nigh worthless or extremely conditional, and at other times you have traits that are almost must-haves or they are all that's left of what has been removed from a codex elsewhere. The CSM ones are a good example: Black Crusader is worthless unless you happen to be playing against Marines, Flames of Spite is only ever good in certain situations and perhaps with certain lists (that you would have to had taken before rolling), Hatred Incarnate is only good if you AREN'T playing marines and you HAVEN'T bought VotLW, Lord of Terror is a joke, and Exalted Champion...always seemed like a waste of my time. The only trait I ever wanted was Master of Deception, and that was because no one has the inherent ability to infiltrate anymore. So they took that ability away from Chosen and if you want it you either have to pray for a 1in 6 die roll or take 1 of 2 Characters that you might not want to take otherwise.

If I had my way I'd want no traits as they exist now, whatsoever. It's a meaningless random mechanic that wasn't needed and shouldn't exist. But if it is going to remain in the game, I'd say that everyone should suffer through that bullshit equally and I'd be against SW getting some sort of exemption for sagas, or for BT stuff, or anything really. Mind you, I'm not saying that I want SW or BT nerfed, all I want is parity. If I had my way I'd give sagas to SW and whatever the crusady things were for BT, I'd just also try to give every army some sort of similar mechanic and have it be balanced. But GW obviously doesn't want that so I guess we're all going to have to take our turns grabbing our proverbial ankles.

As far as codices go, I wish that they had put out a BT and Sisters codex instead of two CSM supplements that few people if any wanted (and after thumbing through one, it seemed so thin on substance that I have a hard time believing that GW thought that they were worth even publishing). But again, GW today is not the GW of 20 years ago or even 10 years ago.

    16. The sagas are like a relic for the Vlka Fenryka in terms of upgrades. The only thing i wanted added to Sagas was a pennitaly if you didn't live upto your Saga. I always said if my Wolf Lord didnt live upto his Saga my opponent got his full point at the end of the battle. I guess itsna matter of time before we found out what will happen.

  3. So Wolfies are getting some Black Templar treatment? Least you guys still have a Dex...

  4. Sagas as warlord traits could be okay, i agree the randomness of it is a pain, but random charts seems to be gw's big thing nowadays... the reason warlord traits as sagas COULD be good, is a space wolves specific FoC. Same as a standard chart, but allows 4 HQ's instead of 2, so they don't have to specify 2 characters per HQ. and then have one of the bonuses for adhering to the chart be that all HQ's get to roll on the space wolf specific trait table perhaps

  5. Regardless of what all the moaners say, the latest codexes have been very well rounded, and play well against each other. I can't wait until all of the codices are redone this way.

  6. Not that this is news at this point but my local hobby shop already had one of the Stormclaw boxes on the shelf. Guess they didn't get the message from the GW overlords. Tempted to pick it up but lack of funds prevented me.
