Space Wolves rejoice as the rumors of a new Space Wolf Gunship are in, and this time they are verified. This flyer is a beast, similar to a Stormraven in armour and special rules.

via an anonymous source on Faeit 212
The Stormfang Gunship has the look of half of a Caestus Assault Ram, and is on the cover of next week's White Dwarf. The previous rumors really list out its abilities well. It comes with a Helfrost Destructor, two twin-linked heavy bolters, two stormstrike missiles and ceramite plating, with power of the machine spirit.

Heavy bolter upgrades to skyhammer missile launcher or two twin linked multi-meltas
stormstrike missiles can be upgraded to a twin linked lascannon.

Helfrost Destructor
Dispersed 24" S6 AP3 Hvy1, Helfrost, Large Blast
Focused 24" S8 AP1, Hvy1, Helfrost, Lance

Stormstrike Missile 72" S8 AP2 hvy1 Concussive one shot only

    1. Similar to a Stormraven i believe he said.

And if he puts all the stats/points cost up in one place GW'll come down on him like a ton of ceramite...

    3. Just look the group called A Fansite for Games Workshop, and you will find plente of pictures of both the Stormwolf and the Stormfang version. Luckily it is only the Stormfang that mounts a Helfrost Destructor with a 6 man capacity, and a rear exit. So the Stormwolf is the one who sacrifices the huge gun for a 16 man transport capacity with an assault ramp.

    5. I am just looking at it over coffee..I am not real keen either. We now know that Wolves actually don't fly, they fall through the air like a brick.

    6. From looking at that thing apparently it is true that Wolves don't fly, they just fall through the air.

    1. now, now. Don't forget that during the great crusade the space wolves were considered the executioners of the emperor, meaning they were the wet works legions.

    2. Wet works? Wet dogs? One of the two...

Still find it odd there would be a Lance weapon outside of Eldar / Dark Eldar codex.

      Delete
    3. Well, why? Since it's the SM counterpart it was bound to be better, hence the AP 1 and not 2... Clearly not the same. Space marines: we take your cool toys, just better.

    2. I know the inet is abound with people 'who know a guy who's cousin drinks beer with a guy who dates the aunt of the guy who takes the trash out for the office where a gw sculpter/writer/insert clever job title' but i seriously know a gal who is a high level exec for gwUS white dwarf, she's one of the reasons i dug out my old metal minis from storage, now over a grand in plastic and paint and a few months later I'm hooked worse than a crackhead. She doesn't give me specific dates on stuff but sp far everything she's told me about new releases from imperial knights to the wolftime has been on the money. I can assure that dark eldar is next for 40k. I've really only been concerned with the sons of russ as i complete my great company but i can try to pry a little and see what she can hint at for whfb. i know she mentioned something about necrons as well though i dont recall

      Delete
    3. She's been 100% on everything she told me calling wood elf releases, orks, DV rebox, sanctus reach/campaigns, i remember her specifically tellung me orks would have new meganob models and a heavy walker multikit similiar to a stoompa in price, she knows how much i love fenrisian anything so she's been making me sweat it, but i do know the dex will be out before the end of the summer and all our ters will get a plastic job, though she won't tell me if anything is resculpt she did hint id probably be keeping my old metal ragnar on the shelf, seeings how he's. one of my alltime fav vlyka's. So whether this just means he's getting "tic'd or a long awaited/needed possibly killed and maimed for resculpt, I'm leaning towards the very realistic possibility of a new model entirely i can't let my ragnar mancrush sway me to wishlisting

  17. Okay so, if this IS true...what's to stop everyone from buying two of these and making a Caestus Assault Ram? I mean look at it...it's already half of one.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably nothing. But for what it is worth, the Assault Ram is currently out of stock anyway. (I had a though to running an actually Ram alongside a couple of these, so I checked.)

    2. Have you seen a pic? If so share it! If you mean the pic at the top, that is a Cestus but the picture's been cropped.

      Delete

  18. They take a Stormraven and "wolf" it up! What could we call this? Storm... Tail? Storm... Paw? I know - StormFANG!!! I love it. And where were all the naysayers a thread or two ago? The first 3 or 4 comments (if i remember) were all cries of "shenanigans!" lol. (",)

All joking aside, we know the new models get the best rules to sell them (at the risk of sounding like a whine i won't mention "Nephilim") so i could very well see myself making a SW army.

I was going to get Stormclaw for my Orks and maybe use the few SW in the box as an allied detachment for my DA, but on the strength of this flyer i may well expand the force. I do love the vikings and i think the SW fluff is cool.

And i need a decent flyer as the only one i own is my recently acquired dakkajet for my Orks.

This is good news and can't wait to see it in the flesh. I just hope they keep this kind of effort up when the Necrons are released.

ps. And i hope they don't tinker around with the codex too much - every codex i'm looking forward to (Nidz, Orks, etc.) gets fiddled with in some way by adding detrimental rolling tables or removing "FOC swapping" units that enable Elites being Troops etc.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well if they keep Grimnars rules the same he gets Wolf Guard as troops.

      Delete
    2. The new models don't get the best rules to sell them. That hasn't really applied for...well...ever.

Yes, they want to sell them, but the rules are rarely superior for new models.

      Taurox?
      Morkanaut?
      Storm Talon?
      Sun Shark?
      Lord of Skulls?

For every new model that has great rules, there are equally as many flops.

Codex creep also hasn't existed since Grey Knights in 5th edition, and that was really a case of a book being intended for 6th (where they were massively toned down).

      Delete
    3. um....why is the storm talon in that list?

      Delete
  19. i doubt it's a new rule and lance. very very few weapons are lance outside eldar.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That isn't really a logical reason for it not to be lance.

      Delete
  20. Well I guess I'm a dummy for doubting...

    ReplyDelete
  21. That thing is made of grade A cheddar! Makes Heldrakes and Stormravens look piddly by comparison. And it makes my poor Dark Angels' "air-superiority fighter" even more of a joke =(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Probably be better than a storm raven, but a heldrake? No. It won't have daemonforge, it will not die, vector strike, a 5+ INV, and a cheap point cost for what it can do.

      Delete
    2. Much more versatile weaponry though, combined with PotMS, Assault Vehicle, Ceramite Plating and 16 model capacity. It's like a flying Land Raider Crusader with a beefed up battle cannon bolted on!

I demand a flying Imperial Knight in the next Dark Angels book to make up for this...

      Delete
    3. There is nothing in this post to indicate that the transport capacity was correct, or even that it has transport capacity.

      Delete
    4. Versatile weaponry is hardly an equalizer to the invulnerability and efficient points cost of the Heldrake.

This is also theory-hammer at this point. We don't know what the rest of the book will look like. If there's one thing you can depend on, it's that the internet is always 100% wrong when trying to predict what will be viable, terrible, or broken.

      Delete
    5. I mean, the internet did say the Eldar codex had been "nerfed" when they got their first looks at it.

The Riptide was going to be "fragile, overpriced garbage" according to the internet.

The Heldrake was going to be "unplayable at 170 points."

      Delete
    6. The did say that the previous post outed the rules pretty well so I'm taking that as a decent indication that there's a least a chance of transport capacity.

And I'd hardly call the Heldrake "invulnerable." 1/3 invuln save and a 1/6 chance to recover a hull point is good but it still leaves you very much killable. Points-efficiency of the Drake, I'll give you but from this early look, that Stormfang looks freakin' beast.

      Delete
    7. I notice the loyalpologists also haven't pointed out that this thing only needs to jink to gain a 4+ cover save, doesn't matter much if you dont shoot for a turn, because you then drop whatever was inside right where it wants to be next turn.

      Delete
    8. Mcdoogle you are so FOS its not funny, so if a few people say something then that means the whole internet said it. Most people said both tau and eldar where going to be strong just like they have said about am. You pick and choose what proves your point and ignore everything else just like the people that you continually complain about, where I'm from thats called being a hypocrite.

  24. Would have been happy with a flying Rhino, something with a bit better weaponry makes me happy. Now if it is not just a StormRaven clone GW might get some money out of me… If not my home-made FireRaptor will just have its weaponry swapped out.

  25. So they're taking an FW model, slapping some silly sounding equipment on it and giving it a "wolfy" name, and calling it a new thing?

Sounds like the standard absurd Space Wolves model of things...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bet fantasy players are getting a bit cheesed off with 3 40K releases in a row...and then if there is a Chaos release before Brettonians...

If I can though I want to get another Stormclaw box.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Buy two of these at 25% discount. Glue them together. Ceastus Assault Ram.

Since the CAR costs as much as 2 Stormravens at MSRP, is a difficult kit to work with, and is currently out of stock to boot.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1- The picture in this post IS the Caestus Ram. Its cut, but it's a picture from FW.

2- The real question is, will this kit be exclusive to Space Wolves? The Nephilim is exclusive to DA but the Storm Raven was exclusive to BA and GK and was next extended to all Space Marines.
