Leaked Pics of the New Space Wolf Flyer: Stormfang and Stormwolf

Images are now floating around this morning on the new Stormfang Gunship and the new Stormwolf. This also verifies all the rules for the flyers are in the White Dwarf, and that what we were showing here on Faeit 212 this last weekend was all correct. Definitely go and check out these leaked pics.

We also have the new Space Wolf Teaser Games Workshop just put out as well. Definitely worth checking out for more confirmations.

    2. Agreed. I was hesitant about getting a flier due to fluff. Now that I've got a flying brick loaded to the teeth that I can shove down my opponent's throat I'm happy. Maybe I'll make the fast attack version, load up 15 blood claws and an IC and see what damage I can do.

      Delete
    3. If it helps me get in my opponent's face quicker ill go for it.

      Delete
    4. If Bloodclaws are truly worth it, it may be nice to cram 15 of them with an IC in and do some damage. I don't hate it, it is growing on me. Might need to sleek it up a bit and go lightly on all the 'wolfy' parts if possible.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, it's pretty ugly but I don't imagine the Space Wolves would particularly care when it's blasting the crap out of the enemy! Happy for you guys to be getting some air support at last!

    6. @Mike Ford: The ONLY fluff bit about Wolves and flying came in the 3rd edition codex (re: pamphlet) that said they'd rather have boots on the ground like their Primarch. People have taken that to mean that Space Wolves hate flying, and that simply isn't true.

There's just as much fluff about them in aerial combat, space, and even teleporting as any other chapter.

      Delete
    7. The very idea of an Astartes chapter that doesn't at least use Thunderhawks is laughable to me. How are you meant to effectively wage war on the ground when you completely concede air superiority!?!

      Delete
    8. Oh, they've got bajilions of Thunderhawks.

    10. The wings almost look like an afterthought.

For the other long fangs out there, it looks like godzuki, tiny wings, big, awkward, tough body.

Sounds like BC plus babysitter in the first and WG and lord or maybe 3 WGTDA (if still possible) in the second.

Thank you GW, I feel better now. Just hope they don't nerfbat the hell out of GH and LF.

  6. It does look like a Caestus. I don't know, but think I will stick with the Fire Raptor for now...unless you can cram Thunderwolves in it. I know you can't but who knows with new rules? So guessing the 26th will be pre-orders for the Codex?

  7. I really like it. In fact if I ever face a SW again I hope they'll have one or more of these then at least I can play against them without having to cringe every time I look at their army...;-p. Trolling aside I think this gives SW a nice slab of WH40k stylie kit.

    2. Umm yeah it does have a helfrost cannon, 2 of em actually. The heavy support model has a helfrost destructor same stats with large blast and lance rule

      Delete
    3. It has the hellfrost cannon. It's just not the BIG one. It's a twinlinked small blast template or a single shot non-lance. it's on the turret on top. The other variant has the huge cannon that's large blast or lance.

      Delete
    4. Yeah there is a helfrost cannon the Stormwolf,

The Stormfang has a helfrost destructor
The Stormwolf has a helfrost cannon.

Helfrost - If a model suffers one or more unsaved wounds from this weapon, it must pass a separate Strength test for each wound suffered or be removed from play

  13. Another terrible-looking Marine flyer. C'mon, GW. You got it righ(ish) once with the Nephilim, you can do it again you know!

Anyways, it'll still sell like hotcakes because the rules for it are sex, once again showing that we aren't just model collectors unlike what GW so desperatly wants to believe.

  15. The best part of this. Is if they let use regular SM flyers (Stormraven, stormtalon) All the wolfy bits this kit will include will make those flyers look good for SW.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ok looked a little harder now and I not so sure about the Fang but I do mostly love the Wolf. Strangely it's the frost weapons on both that put me off aesthetically.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I really, really like this model a lot - It looks like a flying long ship in my mind, and that's absolutely amazing! Plus the rules are just unbelievable, although the FA slot looks like it might be getting crowded, especially if you have access to the stormtalon now.

But man, one of these things fllanked by stormtalons would be amazing! Need to up the ante on my DE and Tyranid anti-air...

  18. Well cant say i like it. But hey! Now they got a flyer!

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a pathetic design. There's even missile hardpoints right in front of the engine intakes and a dorsal mounted twin-linked heavy bolter that can target only aerial targets. Those tiny little wings wouldn't generate enough lift for a sailplane.

Congrats GW on winning the fail design of the year award!

    ReplyDelete

    1. 1st your dumb, it's a space transport bringing ground attack units, 2nd I'm it's got anti grav plates like all imperial ships so the wings don't really matter, 3rd it's a VTOL so it doesn't need wing to enervate life for take off or landing

      Delete
    2. If you are going to call someone dumb in a post you should really use correct sentence structure.

      Delete
    3. Welcome to the GW school of aerospace design, we make models that have a yearning to fly!

Honestly, I am just glad that this is not one of their worst designs. Missiles in front of the intake is capable of being fixed, guns that shoot off the forward lift jets (StormRaven) or openings to the interior and massive gaping hole in the ass end (Heldrake) are much harder to fix.

      Delete
    4. @ nova
You should really look up on reallife space shuttels and aircarft engines.

Shuttels need surface area to slow the fall from Orbit.
The Turbine on this is backward faceing it can hardly slow this thing down if it doesnt rotate or so.

Its ok to like a model.
But its ignorant to defend areodynamic on GW flyers

Some of us have build model planes before starting 40k.
Its very clear GW Designern never had such intresst.

Ofc some Designs can be explained with scifi super tech. But 40k flyers have for the most gone over what even super fantasy tech would make plausible!

      Delete
    5. @seb. aerodynamics dont matter. Aesthetics do. Eldar have sleek designs. Imperium has flying bricks. How they fly is irelevant.

Look at the space shuttle, landing thatvthing was reportedly like landing a brick

      Delete
    6. @Seb using real world examples doesn't help. this is a fictional science-fiction game. that means if a brick doesn't look like it could land or fly or do dirty laundry is irrelevant. because much like orky or even Eldar tech, hell the closest thing that can/could fly and i think it's alone, is the valk.

also this time i must give Thors a +1. as i doubt many have an issue with if it can fly or land or not. rather how it operates in game and if it is shiny enough to be collected.

      Delete
    7. Your application of 2k logic and science is laughable. This is the 41st millenium, "things change".
And well logic has never been a part of the grim dark future.

      Delete
    8. Tell you what. If aerodynamics on this thing mean so much, please buy, build and paint one and then find a nice tall structure to throw it off. See how it goes. This BS about 'oh god that'd never work etc' is pretty damn moot when you consider the universe these models are based in. So in short...it doesn't matter. IMHO it looks good. Purposeful design and a fitting aesthetic.

    1. I could totally see the Stormwolf punching holes in enemy craft only for the Stormfang to come smashing through the weakened hull, 15 Blood Claws with an IC come crashing out. I'm down for that!

All my SW vehicles have the iconography all over them but looking at the pictures I'd be looking to not put some of the rune chains on my flyers, that stuff would come right off in orbit! I'll probably add the runes to a dreadnought :)

As for the flyers... I've just had a damn bonus; there that goes! Wolf Head Brick Option A & B please!

  22. Is it just me or does that thing seem under costed points wise? 15 more points than a storm raven and infinitely better, rear armor 12 as well.

"Hey so that one twin linked multi melta worked out for the Storm Raven real well, let's put on 2 of them!" -GW game designer.

I mean a storm raven will toast that thing if it fires first, but I think it seems like so much more for a mere 15 points extra. I'm not one to piss and moan about every release, (everything since Eldar has been relatively balanced), but damn is this thing beasty, the strength test part is just unnecessary and brings it a little over the top (strength tests override eternal warrior no?) On the other hand it might just be envy :D. I guess I just need to suck it up and buy a Fire Raptor for my Astral Claws.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How will the storm raven toast it if it shoots first? Both have ceramite playing so it negates the main benifits of the multi meltas

      Delete
    2. Storm Raven can carry a dreadnought also.

      Delete
    3. It's still a 5+ plus to pen, plus missiles and lascannons (How I run mine). I'm just saying a storm raven will take one down if it fires first.

I just think it's getting so much more for 15 points (2 machine spirited twin linked multi meltas is ridiculous), and is very under costed and should not be in a fast attack slot (the storm raven is heavy support). Other than thunderwolves the fast attack slot is not very crowded with space wolves and there's no reason not to take 2 of these.

PS: I just bought a Fire Raptor an hour ago, so I'm kind of over it :D.

      Delete
    4. there is two vehicles to one hull. therefore it's a good move to make one FA, as essentially that is what it's battlefield role is. a flying crusader, but with more weapons to soften up the foe before you unload your BC to finish them off....supported by TWC and what have you. but i agree it won't appeal to all, but rare for me to like a spacewolf thing.....so to me i'll likely add one-two to my "to buy list"

  23. Ha! Opinion split nicely down the middle on this one I see :P

  37. Here is something very interesting to consider... in tge new white dwarfs the studio team weighs in on how the individual variants should be used, adam mentions using the Stormwolfs transport capacity to ferry a pack of wolf guard in terminator armour to battle because quote"its safer than teleporting"?!?!?! Not because the straight up can't.... does this mean wolf termies will get the option to deepstrike via teleportation in the new dex or was this just an accidental miswording on his part??? I for one dearly hope to see Vlyka TDA's popping up all over battlefields in a flash of teleporter light!!!

      Delete
  39. Well first off I have to say I really like the thing. There is one minor thing that somewhat bugs me but overall I really, really like it.
I don't play space wolves so the only thing I am not overly happy with is that all the iconography seems to be part of the hull/cockpit rather than individual bits as with the stormraven.
    Now the good bits:
    1) I just like the looks of it.
    2) LOOK AT ALL THE BITS YOU GET: A frost cannon (grav cannon if painted green?) turret for your predators and land raiders and Missile arrays or TL bolters for the stormraven and Rhino sponsons, these can probably also be used as TL melta or something, we'll see what's in the kit...

Honestly, for someone like me who likes to "invent" new vehicles and rules, this is a wet dream.

    ReplyDelete
  40. With unforged lists, ever imperium army has acess to this flyer now.

We need to stop thinking in terms of "I dont play that army so this is useless' and instead imagine what blood angels or grey knights could do with it instead!!!
