We have seen leaks over the last 24 hours on upcoming releases for March. Its quite obvious now that the Astra Militarum is indeed the new name for the Imperial Guard codex, and that the Militarum Tempestus is a separate mini-codex coming out the week after.

Astra Militarum
This is our new Imperial Guard. The codex will be coming very soon, although we do not have a date yet. Its assumed that it will come before the Militarum Tempestus, which means pre-orders March 22nd most likely. Its also likely that alongside the codex we will see an Ogryns box set as well that was reported here on Faeit 212. You can check out that information by following the link.
http://natfka.blogspot.com/2014/02/astra-militarum-bullgryns-sighted.html

Militarum Tempestus
This is the home of the new Scions, which appear to be storm troopers and the new transport is listed as both Astra Militarum and Tempestus. This very much indicates that we will see a cross-over between codices for the vehicle, and possibly on the Scions as well. While this is listed as a codex in the White Dwarf leak, it is only 72 pages long leading us to believe that this is a mini-dex, possibly with its own Foc outside of the normal allied restrictions like the Imperial Knights or the Inquisition. It is also going to be an "online-only" release for print copies.

Releases
What we have seen. These have a pre-order/ release date of March 29th/April 5th

We have also now seen the cover of the Astra Militarum codex but have no release certain information on the dates of the release.

This is ramping up to be a very exciting release schedule for Imperial Guard players. The Imperial Guard is made up of many different groups and divisions within the Imperium, and it appears that this will be reflected in upcoming releases.

1. Chosen? Anyone?

Anyone seen my Chosen? I've lost my Chosen. Anyone seen them? They're tall, covered in spikes and bits, have tons of weapon options?

Chosen...?

1. Cannot agree more. Where are the Chosen leaks? There's no way that they release only a Helbrute for Chaos...is there?

Delete
2. It was rumored that the new Chaos releases would be filler releases when a codex release is not planned. So if the chosen don't appear in the next week or two I bet they will be released during the next fantasy release month so 40k players have something to be excited about.

Delete
3. We still have another week between now and the 22nd guys. There's still a possibility that the Chosen might pop up there X3

4. Starting to think that the conversion tips in the white dwarf were mistaken for new chosen.

2. Chosen are likely coming, but the timing of the release is off. Don't act like you were owed something. That's the business of rumor-mongering, and more often than not, they get the dates wrong.

1. No no, we are owed something. We have no Chosen box, no Cultist box, no proper updated kits for Plague Marines, Khorne Berzerkers, Thousand Sons, or Noise Marines. Oh, and our Havocs are disappearing because the last casts were metal. Have I mentioned how old our Terminators are?

It's time for GW to pay up.

So, y'know, we can pay them money. For the things they owe us.

2. Go cry to the Eldar players who didn't get any new plastic Aspect warriors during their release.

Delete
3. Oh hush, nobody cares about Eldar. At least they have a Codex that keeps them viable on the table, and lets them ally with nearly everyone, oh, except Chaos of course.

4. They owe you nothing, stop acting like children

5. No no, THIS is acting like children:

9. Yeah, my Wood Elves' hearts are breaking to hear how bad y'all have it. How can you bear to continue with life?

10. If they made the chosen as Baroque as the DV chosen then One could actually have some visual consistency with a Chaos Marine army that actually uses chaos marines.

16. The black crusades didnt fail. They hit all the targets they where ment to.

Delete
17. And then failed.

Nice work, Failbaddon with your teeny Termie armour and paw of LOLrus.

Delete
18. I saw a comment up there saying that the Chaos Terminators were old. But they look rather nice I think, and there are plenty of models older than 2007.

Delete
19. Yea like Ragnar, Ulrik, terminator rune priest, space wolf iron priest etc. those are from the mid nineties. Granted Space wolves do have some sweet plastic kits (wolf guard, thunderwolves)

Delete
20. actually the Black crusades succeeded. you only need look at the fact that the Imperium is divided. the dark gods don't concern themselves of petty details such as who wins battles or warzones....let's look at it like this:- "chaos is like an ork, it cannot be beaten in battle"

Delete
21. Except internal politics divided the Imperium more than the BCs did.

3. I'm more concerned about the rules in the CS book at this point. Still wanna know if helbrute rules have changed for better and if there's an option for a possessed lord. If no new rules for helbrute in this supplement, I will put money on a dataslate for them incoming very soon, possibly in line with a chosen kit. (even though I think terminators are more in dire need of it...)

ReplyDelete
Replies
1. Terminators do indeed need a new kit. I don't think there are any updated rules for the Helbrute, this is just GW throwing a couple spare releases together to try to placate us angry Chaos players.

Data-Slate would be nice, especially if we can take a formation of Helbrutes, but it's not necessarily fluffy...

Delete
2. There's a named brute in the Crimson Slaughter lore, maybe they'll get a special character version that might be worth running.

Otherwise, yeah, it's a fantastic model, it really is, but the rules are just too uninspired and unimpressive for words, its mechanical presence completely failing to live up to its physical presence on the tabletop.

As for chosen, sure, call me a whiner, but I really, really want some, and would be quite disappointed if we don't see them after the 'brute. Yeah, they're kinda lackluster mechanically as well, but not as much so as the dread, particularly for me as a Black Legion & Fallen fan. I've converted up 10 starter box chosen already, but I'd like 10 to 20 more, and I don't think I've got the effort to convert that many more.

4. The Scions Commander, from the Picture Leaks of the Command Squad, looks awesome =D
Will be really good for Conversion, all those Models for 40k in medieval style armor are cool for Inquisition related conversions.

Just sad no female models =/ I need something for my Female Inquisitors and Adepta Sororitas.

1. I think there was a post a while back where GW's design team straight up said... "Yeah, since we don't have a girl on our team, we don't want to make too many female models, lest we offend someone..."

This was shortly after releasing the whole updated Dark Eldar range, if memory serves.

Delete
2. "Yeah, since we don't have a girl on our team, we don't want to make too many female models, lest we offend someone..."

Certainly doesn't seem to have stopped them releasing witch elves or the sisters of avelorn or the Bloodwrack shrine with naked boobie on the medusa. If it is true though they need to put the politically-correct crack pipe down and just go off on the 'this is art' road toward getting it done. Hell I expect they go more trouble from the spots the space marine fiasco than they would from risqué figurines.

3. Or, you know hire a woman?

I meam what happened with lamb? She was with them for a bit wasnt she?

Delete
4. She started her own company making Praetorians, Mordians and Ghosts. Victoria Miniatures.

Delete
5. They have hired more writers and sculptors who are confident with the female form. I had a nice long chat with the chap responsible for the Medusa - he argued long and hard for the artistic merit of that kit, and I think he was right to do so.

But have patience - he specialises in female figures, and the Witch Elves and Medusa are most of what he's had released so far - he's been employed long enough to have several more female kits in the pipeline!

Delete
6. Maybe its just that the Duds a GW have never seen a girl? ;)
Let alone a naked One! ;D

9. Silly conspiracy theories aside, the lack of female Guard has always marginally perplexed me. They've got some great sculpts of females - various elves/eldar noticeably. They can do it. But they seem to have a Guard blindspot. Given that the Guard recruits from both genders across a million worlds, it does always seem like a strange oversight.

Just out of curiosity! What was the name of the guy that you spoke to-

I am interested to know because I live in Nottingham and have visited the factory and met with most of the guys from time to time.

Being my late for and a collector from before GW came into being I have made a nuisance of myself (politely of course) in order to get the creators and sculptor to sign a lot of my collection

I have not met the guy responsible for the medusa etc but I know the right people to track him down and get an introduction.

1. Why?
Everybody (loyal) can now take the new truck & Strom troops.
Only downside is you have to buy a nother dex.
GW makes a Ton of money and the game is balanced becaus everyone can take them. (apart from csm) :)
Its Bad for mono armys but well they wont be around anymore in a few years anyway.

4. Also, to be fair the only release that's bucked the trend so far was the Knights. All the other supplements have taken up an Allies slot like they're supposed to.

These Tempestus guys shouldn't be special and should take up an Ally slot.

Right? :'(

6. So why could they just not leave it as Imperial Guard instead of Astra Militarium?

1. Agree too ¿basic troop guardsmen changes to Astra milatarium soldier? , this name change sucks.

Delete
2. I'm pretty sure Astra Militarum is just going to be on the cover. Everywhere else in it they'll still be called Imperial Guard...

Delete
3. It's quite plausible that the codex will be astra militarum, but the troop choice is listed as guard squad, or guardsmen, or similar.

It gets round the copyright problem, but also keeps the guard alive in name...a suitable compromise.

~~~on space marine debacle~~~
seems legit though but lets change Chaos as well, Eldar and every other conceivable name they are using...the only name they created was Tyranids, everything else is a creation of someone elses, FFS they didn't even create the chaos star. the imperial eagle is a second head on a Roman Aquila. half the Eldar/Elf and Dwarven are from real life symbols [with some modification], Orc belongs to Tolkien [does elf or eldar/elder also apply i wonder] really makes you wonder what they actually own v what they invented v trademark.
7. I actually think the tempestus mini dex and models are going to hit first, before the new ig dex. All the other releases in the new schedule have had models before codexes, and I don't see much reason to think we'll see the ig dex before April.
There's every possibility we'll still get those chosen in the next few weeks.
ReplyDelete
Replies
1. Possible, but I don't understand why they'd release a mini-dex before a full IG codex...
I guess we'll see.
Delete
2. The way I read it, the full codex is coming out first (29th?) and the mini-dex is coming out the week after (4/5?).
Delete
3. Its prob. Not exklusiv to IG to field them. Think SOB, Inq. & marines.
Sells more.
Maybe eldar tau & orks get to allie them in aswell.
4. I seem to remember naftka saying that GW was a bit rage-faced about the Imperial Knight leaks and was going to switch up the release schedule a bit I guess to "throw off the trail". So perhaps thats what is going on here to keep the community guessing.
Delete
5. I think it makes some sort of sense to release a mini-dex before the main dex if you consider it in the context of being a way to give inquisitors their stormtroopers back/a mini allied force to plug into other armies rather than an improvement to the codex's army list.
I also have a pet theory that we're going to see the 'Objective Secured' special rule from the latest tyranid dataslate popping up on other units in the future, based on its wording I suspect it will be a universal special rule in the next rulebook.
Delete
8. Yep not a fan of the name change maybe we'll start seeing some sponsors names appearing: the emperor's special lazyboy throne the cadian gates are now golden arches, comebon GW get serious you've ripped off films, books movies and even actors faces for your material!?!?!? Now you're changing the name of the Imperial Guard to stop the same happening to you!!!!!???? Not to mention 21 GBP for 5 models..... I'm out! :)
9. Militarum Tempestus. A tempest is a storm, so that means we are getting new storm troopers rather than veterans?
Also, does Astra Militarum basically mean Starship Troopers?
1. Not quite, star soldiers more so.I'd say. I'd say star trooper but that sounds way way too 80's.
3. I think Tempestus Militarum pretty obviously is to avoid ambiguity with Star Wars' Imperial Storm Troopers.
I also think Tempestus Militarum is getting its own codex so that Inquisitors can have their Inquisitorial Storm Troopers back without requiring them to get the Astra Militarum codex.
Chaos dwarves (I lost the different greenskins)
Any storm of chaos or albion or dogs of war...
3. It took me a while to catch on, but yeah, every new big model/couple of smaller models will now require a £30 hardbook book going forward.
Knight - Codex
Helbrute - Codex
Stormies - Codex
Maybe we'll be lucky and the Bull***** will be in the Codex Starmy and not another 'supplement' of their own.
12. From what I've heard the Scions are Schola Progenium SpecOps, basically Uber-Elite-Stormtroopers.
They will get their own supplement because they are assigned to all kind of imperial operations and can actually be allies to Astra Militarum. Expect a matrix similar to the Knights.
1. Ah, the old Hitler Youth > Waffen-SS route, nice.
2. Isn't that what storm troopers are now? They're only in ig currently because their missions supposedly are related to the battle you are in, just like inquisitors were and assassins are in grey knights.
Makes more sense for the four assassin temples with models to have a codex rather than this tbh
Delete
3. Yes, the background is the same.
Scions seem to be "the best of the best of the best". Much more Elite than the rank&file stormtrooper. More like "dirty dozen behind enemy lines super-killers of death"-SpecOps.
Delete
4. Yes Teary but for whatever reason GW has had 0 interest in making any new models for anything related to the Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy, or Assasinorum since the late 90s/early 2000s. While it may be the most interesting part of the 40k universe, whatever Staff left during that time took that drive with them and left only those with interest in Space Marines and modern Xenos.
Delete
5. "the best of the best of the best"....aren't those strange power armored chaps? if not then they must be "the best of the best of the best of the UBER best".... and greyknights are "the best of the best of the best of the Uber best of the Uber-Uber-Uber Best"
17. but it could also be a way to generalise and therefore expand the army
by becoming a more generic named 'space army' they can expand with dataslates, digital codexes and supplements like a imperial themed 'storm' force but then do a tau auxilia force, a lost and the damned, and maybe even the return of genestealer cults that are all 'space armies' but not 'imperial guard' but still leaves room for 'steel legion' 'cadians' and 'catachans' to be expanded upon like their old lists, but like black legion, you can still ally a primary detachment of cadians with an allied attachment of catachans
but then still leaving the generic space army for conversion options and make your own forces
