The Dark Eldar are here. Officially tommorrow, but it's close enough. GW has put out 3 sample Dark Eldar lists. While the GW sample army lists are normally nothing really to delve into, I figured I would post what they are putting as sample armies for the Dark Eldar. It gives a decent look into what the Dark Eldar are, and some average looking lists.

Here is the 1st of 3.

The Black Heart Elite

This army contains a potent mix of Kabalite Warriors and their sworn allies. At the heart of the force are the three squads of Warriors all mounted on Raiders. The plan with these is to operate as a highly mobile reserve, swooping around using their splinter racks to deliver a devastating volume of fire into the enemy while the enhanced aethersails enable them to quickly escape trouble if they bite off more than they can chew. Of course, should there be objectives that need claiming, the Kabalite Warriors will disembark and get stuck in.

While the Warriors concentrate on killing enemy infantry and overseeing the objectives, the Ravagers will pound the enemy armour with dark lances and elites with their disintegrators (dark lances zap through heavy armour with relative ease while disintegrators make a horrible mess of such troops as Terminators, Aspect Warriors, Crisis Battlesuits and so on).

Terror tactics come in the form of the Mandrakes, who will hopefully lay waste to the enemy's static firebases. Imperial Guard Heavy Weapons Teams, Ork Lootas and even Space Marine Devastator Squads are all fair game for your Mandrakes. Use your Reavers in a similar capacity - zooming over the heads of your enemy will yield between 6 and 18 Strength 4 hits on your chosen victim, often a more effective result than firing your weapons. If you find you need to destroy a vehicle or other premium target in a hurry, you can open up with your main guns, including the heat lance.

Finally, the Archon and his Incubi travel to battle onboard another Raider. These are my combat elite, tasked with chopping any powerful enemy units to ribbons, hacking apart enemy characters and preventing the counter-attack. That's a lot to ask, but bear in mind your Ravager with disintegrators is going to whack heavy infantry and you've got your Bloodstone, which will help soften up anything in power armour. The Archon is a little brute too, he's faster than lightning and, with his huskblade, he'll hack multi-Wound models to bits.

All that remains is to remind you never, ever to engage in a fair fight. Hide units out of sight, avoid reprisals by falling back from the foe when necessary and most importantly of all, when you attack, do so with overwhelming force!
