Lets start out by saying that the Dark Eldar Codex is very well written and the army very well designed. I've only started to pour over it and I've enjoyed myself immensely. Even though it's too early to get into specifics (it's not released yet), I figured I would start to look at the individual units we will be seeing on a tabletop near us.

Lets start off by looking at something exciting, Scourges. Falling into the Fast Attack FoC, they compete with a very lethal selection of unit types. They are equipped with an assault 3 shardcarbine and ghostplate armor for standard equipment.

They also get a great weapon selection of 2 special weapons per 5 scourges. So a squad of 10 can easily support 4 Heat Lances, Blasters, or a host of other weapon options. This means they really are a heavy mobile fire support platform.

We are allowed to upgrade one to a solarite, who can grab a blast pistol and some close combat type weapons. The Blast Pistol added to a unit of 10 scourges with 4 blasters, gives you 5 men with str8 lance weapons that can move 12" and fire, giving you a 30" threat range with the Blasters (not the pistol).

Being able to deepstrike, 4 heat lances will really come into play. However, I get a good feeling about having 4 blasters and blast pistol in a 10 man squad. There are other exotic options as well, including the Haywire Blaster which fires haywire grenades. Thinking deep (5 minute pause in writing), I was just imagining 4 splinter cannons (that's 24 poison shots if they don't move).

As you can see there are many ways to field scourges and I think they are very adaptable, and will find their way into many of our lists.  They give the new reavers a hard running for the fast attack slot.
