Kill Team: Arena isn’t the only expansion set to usher in a new era of skirmish warfare in the 41st Millennium – two new Kill Team Starter Sets will also be up for pre-order this weekend. But what’s so special about them? They both include a Commander with them! Not only that, but they both represent brand-new characters for their respective Factions too!
Over the course of the week, we’ll be taking a closer look at these new Starter Sets. Today, we’re kicking things off with Theta-7 Acquisitus.
The kill team is led by Balphamus Vaulk – a powerful Tech-Priest Manipulus and living conduit for the power of the Motive Force. Each member of Theta-7 Acquisitus was hand-picked by Vaulk for their combat expertise and rigorous stealth-engagement protocols. Together, they embark upon numerous secretive actions at the behest of their calculating master.
Sometimes these missions are part of a sanctioned Imperial offensive, in which Theta-7 play a small but decisive role, but often they kill only to further Vaulk’s own ends. Regardless of the nature of their task, the warriors of Theta-7 Acquisitus engage the enemy with furious fervour, eliminating their foes in the name of the blessed Omnissiah.
The majority of the kill team itself comprises a powerful mix of Sicarian cyber-assassins – more specifically, three Infiltrators and two Ruststalkers. With a Move characteristic of 8″, each is a swift hunter, able to outmanoeuvre and close on their prey with ease. Though few in number, Sicarians are hardy fighters – with 2 Wounds, a 4+ save and even a 6+ invulnerable save from their extensive bionics – and can handle even the strongest opponents and hordes of foes thanks to their high number of attacks and fearsome weaponry.
If you like, you can build the Sicarian miniatures from Kill Team Theta-7 Acquisitus as you see fit, but let’s take a closer look at the each of the kill team’s members as represented in the set.
This kill team serves a Commander in the form of a brand-new miniature – Tech-Priest Manipulus Balphamus Vaulk. Armed with a magnarail lance, Balphamus Vaulk can annihilate single targets from afar with nonchalant ease:
As a Tech-Priest Manipulus, Vaulk has a solid profile, and his combination of 2+ Save and Blessed Bionics make him incredibly durable:
If you wish, you can choose to assemble your Tech-Priest as a Manipulus of your own creation, and even arm him with the formidable transonic cannon instead of the magnarail lance for some close-range annihilation.
A Manipulus serves as a happy middle ground in terms of power and points cost between his fellow Tech-Priests, the Enginseer and the Dominus, and also has unique access to a handy Tactic that will help your kill team to surge forwards at the onset of battle:

As a Ruststalker Princeps, Exitor-Dho-668.2 is the Leader of Kill Team Theta 7-Acquisitus. He is at his best leading from the front, where his whopping 4 Attacks and brutal combination of transonic blades and chordclaw will shred any opponent in short order.
As a Comms Specialist, this Sicarian Infiltrator can use his Scanner ability to add 1 to his (or a nearby ally’s) hit rolls in the Shooting phase. Considering he’s toting a 5-shot flechette blaster and has BS 3+, his firepower alone will pose a significant threat to all but the most heavily armoured opponents.
Matching Sygex-7’s brutal weapon combination of flechette blaster and taser goad, Dak-809 is another solid all-rounder. He is also a Scout specialist, meaning that he can re-roll Advance rolls and get the jump on the enemy almost immediately.
Sicarian Ruststalker Tyr-0.44//K gains a bonus (fourth!) Attack for being a Combat Specialist and wields a transonic razor and chordclaw. Together with Exitor-Dho-668.2, he makes up one half of a nigh-unstoppable tag team of melee fighters that can tear the heart from any enemy kill team.
The only non-specialist, Ix-99 is nevertheless a valuable asset to Theta-7 Acquisitus. Not only does he offer some longer-range firepower with his stubcarbine, but he carries a power sword that will prove invaluable against heavily armoured opposition.
As with all Kill Team Starter Sets, Theta-7 Acquisitus includes a number of Tactics that are exclusive to the set but are usable by all kill teams of the same faction – in this case, Adeptus Mechanicus.
