New Edition battle reports have become something many of us are watching as we wait for 8th edition to officially launch. Thus far most games I have watched have been rather predictable, but as we become more familiar with the rules I expect that to change some.

Jes: This Friday evening’s First Blood game is going to be a very special affair, as it sees new Warhammer 40,000 architect Robin Cruddace bring his beautifully painted Howling Griffons Space Marines to battle against my own Genestealer Cults army. But what is it precisely about this particular match-up that makes it very special, we hear you ask?
Well, it’s because we’re aiming to recreate Paul Dainton’s astonishing art depicting these two factions in battle, in order to answer once and for all what’s happening in the picture: are the Howling Griffons winning… or losing? The victor will get to establish Warhammer 40,000 history, and what’s more, Warhammer World have also very kindly donated a framed print of Paul’s art for the winner to take home! Who’s going to come out on top? There’s everything to play for, and you can be sure I will be using every sneaky Genestealer Cults trick up my sleeve to smite the lapdogs of the fake Emperor… and I have a space on my hobby room wall for that art!
But what’s more, we’ll be using a previously unseen mission from the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 to showcase our battle! The Narrative Play mission, Ambush, is absolutely perfect for recreating this particular clash and is all about telling an amazing tale of epic battle with Citadel miniatures. We’re proud to present it below, so you can see exactly what rules the mission uses – as you can see, it plays right to the strengths of the Genestealer Cults.
Can the Howling Griffons triumph and keep their honour intact, or will the loyal servants of the Star Saviours assert their rightful dominion? Be sure to tune into Warhammer Live at 5pm (UK Time) on Twitch, to see a classic war story in the making!
