Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum) Pre-Orders

Its been awhile even mentioning Warhammer 40k, and to be honest its still my passion and love. As the Age of Sigmar takes the spotlight, a little a quick releases of a couple IG bundles went up for pre-orders over on the GW site. Of the two, the Backbone of the Imperium one looks like a good deal, as it really has a lot of models that could be useful for play..... although another two chimeras would of made it a solid force. (yea I like tanks).

Here is a link to the Pre-Orders.

Backbone of the Imperium $480

  4. Militarum Tempestus needs some more goodies. My main army is Tempestus so I'm biased lol

    1. I think with these 'mini dexes' the intent was get them in and then expand later. I would love to see more tempestus units in the future and obviously skitaari/ ad mech

    2. Jes Goodwin told me he had some more cool Ad Mech stuff he was hoping will get the Green Light at some point but even then it will be 18 months+ before we actually see them in the stores.

    3. That's great to hear DAMO. R!
Gives me time to finish painting and buying the existing range (so many limited ed's really hurt my wallet), and so be ready and hyped to expand my force.

I wonder what else we'll get? I'm hoping for a flyer, something really whacky perhaps.

  5. Was hoping for exclusive formations since these bundles lack a doscount. Oh well hopefully the next campaign box set includes AM formations.

    1. Are they really without discount? I can't believe that GW still offers massive bundles for NO discount. Jeezuz. It's not like there aren't a million online retailers offering everything at 20% off anyway - give us some incentive GW!

      Delete
    2. Jeez how much more incentive could you need. They already throw in little trinkets like pins, buttons and notepads. Pft...

      Delete
    3. It's all in one click, that's a HUGE incentive

      Delete
    4. Its really hilariously dumb. Its like they think you will see all the models in one picture and be unable to resist clicking it.

I think the pay to win formation things are terrible, but at least from a business perspective there is an incentive included to purchase those in one go.

    5. I've been pondering this. I guess it allows GW to randomly advertise models people might have forgotten about with very little effort and zero cost. Maybe that reminder is enough to increase sales? Doesn't work on me....except it has reminded me I really want a Stormlord to fit my ogryns in. So maybe it has worked on me a little bit and will pay off in the long term...

    6. We've covered this before. The big bundles are aimed at residents of Southern France with their marble staircases and silver cutlery.

      Delete
    7. No
In france this stuff is 30% more expensiv. GW spezial exchanerate

This is just a nother bundel for bundel sake. Makes youre store look like they are doing "Service" or "discount"
Now you can buy a bundel instead of thinking about what to buy for youre arm with all the money you have at Home.

      I recommend waylandgames.
They also have bundels that give you discount ontop of the discount you allready get on any item.

    8. this bundle is actually 32.5 pounds cheaper than the models separately, so that is like 11% off... But you could buy it with up to 25% discount from independent retailers, so there is really no point.

      Delete
    9. IDK what it's like elsewhere in the world, but these bundles are no cheaper in America... well I shouldn't say no cheaper... the Nork Deddog's Brute Force is $280 and the individual kits combine to cost $281.

GWs philosophy is to basically have these bundles have the same cost with some slight differences due to rounding. They just hope it makes people buy more than they would otherwise. I don't know who actually falls for that gimmick... but they must think someone does.

  6. I was wondering whether these were new bundles! Seemed odd to see Guard so prominently right after a Dark Angels release.

    3. I refuse to use that tactic because the idea of the Lord of the Unforgiven babysitting a bunch of Guardsmen is just... Uch =P

  7. GW reminds people that the Guard still exits! More expensive bundles but hell every guard player probably already has those models and can do that formation already, I have been playing guard since 2nd ed (and all that complicated math just firing a HK Missle back then was tedious) and I just want some formations for my army, I have enough GW, every good Guardsman knows one thing 2 is better then one and 3 is better then 2, its guard math.

    1. I have a ton of guard models but i don't have any of ur new bullgryns or the stromlord yet. Not that I was going to purchase that bundle without a nice discount or at least a formation to make that unit at least worth the points.

  8. The second formation might be a hint for something in the future, as Nork can not be taken outside of command squad. Here, he is shown as a part of ogryn formation.
    That's something.

    1. I understand where your coming from but I personally like the design, granted they could look more active though instead of just standing around. The catachen models are more animated and their style is awesome but they look goofy. Specially that sergeant on the preview picture.

    3. Truth is, the Cadians are too bloody tall. I'm expecting GW to scale back the Militarum troops to Skitarii height on the next iteration(s).

      Delete
    4. I don't like the giant Elysian sunglasses however the dkok are a great army aesthetic. The Cadian army pulls heavily from the starship trooper look. And I agree guard models are slightly to large but I think that has more to do with the limits of plastic molds and loss of detail.

    6. Only Cadians and Catachans are too large imo. I justify Catachan size as them just being roidmonkeys. The oop metal IG, and the FW IG are better proportioned imo.

  10. New Guardsman kits would be sweet. Make it a multiple build kit-New Cadians, Catachans and perhaps some trenchcoat units or...BRING BACK VOSTROYANS. Please GW.

    1. Well actually EVERY other Regiment than cadians or catachans would be cool. I mean they are okay as vanila Regiments but thats kind of it.

    2. I remember when there were seven: Attila, Catachan, Mordia, Tallarn, Cadia, Valhalla, and (later on) Praetoria XXIV. Good times.

      Delete
    3. I seriously doubt gw is going to make multiple of the same kits again. Honestly I'd just be happy with themed kits that take up elite slots such as catachan devil squad that infiltrates and moves through cover with camo cloaks. Of course they can always design this kit we enough that it can be used to make a plastic platoon regiment with a few weapon swaps.

      Delete
    4. I'm just glad we can still get metal minis at least

      Delete
    5. can't really see how you can make those different regiments a multiple build kit, those pieces are just too different to make them a single set.

      Delete
    6. do what they did for chapter upgrade kits. just new torso's arms and heads, make weapons separate like space marines, just have to figure out what standard vanilla kit it'd work with. maybe catachan for less clothing guardsmen or cadian for greatcloak version (or heavily clothed guardsmen).

but i can see upgrade kits instead of full MPPK's for varied regimental themes....

      Delete
    7. @ starchild: at some point between second/third edition imperial guard lore changed the name from "mordia" to "mordian" too similar to cadia/cadian I assume, but all the current books use Mordian as the planetary name.

  12. Honestly, it would be simple and efficient, though expensive (but hey, that's what GW wants) to do plastic infantry squads of the major regiment themes (Cadian, Catachan, Armageddon, Tallarn, Valhallan, Vostroyan, Mordian) that contained all sorts of excess upgrade bits kind of like many SM kits (BA Death Company comes to mind). You can math hammer all the possible combinations for customization. That would be awesome to represent all the millions of variant regiments and PDFs out there. Not asking me to full ranges of everything (though that would be cool) but the antiquated metal models for the non-Cadian non-Catachans really kill it.

  13. I would love a one box platoon single pose 5 command 20 guard 3 heavy weapons like a guard starter

    1. Yes! Infantry Platoon box. 1x PCS, 3x IS, 1x HWT for $99.

That would probably save too much money for GW's liking, however

      Delete
    2. Dont forget: this box would need a chimera. Pcs and Cs wihout chimeras get shot turn 1
      It would cost 125$

  15. What if... A next guard codex along with plastic Mordians, Tallarns, Vostroyans, Vallhalans, Tanithans, Steel legionnaries is just right in the corner? What if after making Aos Gw will change its politics? What if they will make 36 guardsmen for 30$? What if they learnt something about their prices and want to say sorry making that?
    OMG WHAT A FAIRYTALE!!!

  16. Another mildly interesting info: Last week I wanted to buy a Basilisk, but it somehow went online exclusive (literally the only IG tank that is).
When they sent it to me, it arrived in a blank white box (which says: Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and Citdadel).

Change is coming! Or it's just getting repackaged.
Or banned from the next codex, which is around the corner in case AoS fails.
Or they just ran out of Basilisk boxes.
