I have had a couple different whispers now that Space Wolves are not only being worked on, but are going to be set for a 2nd quarter release in 2014. While there is not much more to this rumor, other than a couple different sources saying that its coming, there is one little bit I can add to that.

Here is the latest little rumor snippet.

Please remember that these are rumors, and I would say that as of right now, a little extra salt is required, as this one is still a ways out.

  2. makes sense that space wolves would be the next marine index. both Blood angels and space wolves are solid. but space wolves are a tad more popular and proably need an update first, lacking fliers or any anti-air

    1. Naw, The FW books seem to follow the "flow" of the HH book series quite closely. Right now we are still focusing on Isstvan 3... meaning Isstvan 5 will be in focus before the sub plot that is Russ and Magnus (That said I want my Wolves and Sons, as I play both :D)

      Delete
    2. As "predicted" by FW themselves they hope to finish the first trilogy "Istvaan III & V(2parts) by the end of this year. So I guess the next trilogy (propsero, calth & signus if my memory serves me right) will be for 2014. When however, they couldn't predict.

      Delete
    3. FW have said they aren't necessarily following the black library books and won't be tied to them.

      Delete
    4. Yet all their books feature characters that were introduced in the BL HH books...

      Delete
    5. No not at all. In fact other than rumors the characters so far where straight out of fluff written back in the day by gw itself.

      Delete
  4. Really really pleased to start hearing rumours about the Vlka Fenrika. But please Mr Kelly - no fur covered Centurions for SW. All that we need is some AA and a way to deliver the TWC to the heretic lines...

    1. We will get plastic Wulfen. Mark my words.

I base this on the fact that as of late the new codices have had the things taken out of them added back in, so it would make sens.

I would also not mind an actual Long Fang box with 5 missile launchers :P (A wolf can dream)

I doubt we'll get Centurions, I think they will stay Space Marines only, to make the Vanillarines feel more unique.

      Delete
    2. That would be great. I play a TWC and Fenrisian Wolves list. Adding werewolves to it would be awesome.

      Delete
  5. Really curious to see what wolves and blood angels get with their releases. I'm guessing wolves may get access to the stalker/hunter and a rune priest plastic but nothing else needs a new kit except maybe some updated special characters.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No Stalker Hunter, I think that will stay unique with the Nillarines.

Space Wolves will get a flyer for sure, and as J said Wulfen. I am guessing Wulfen will be plastic.

A Plastic Rune and Wolf Priest would be nice, but in all honesty the current plastic librarian looks easy enough to convert to any chapter really.

      Delete
    2. A priest box that has different weapon choices for Rune/wolf priest would be nice. A new sculpt for Ragnar is definately needed and maybe a wolf lord box would be good in plastic with the same sort of idea as the SM commander with different weapons to choose from. They could even tie it in with the priest box and just have a generic SW hq box with different weapons and options for all SW Hq choices.

      Delete
    3. wolves probably won't get a flyer, because they don't use flyers except for thunderhawks

      Delete
  6. Bjorn the fell handed could do with a character sculpt. Ragnar blackmane and iron priests need a serious update, and they need some form of flyer. Anti air could be the hunter and stalker, granted, but i see them saving those for sm codex

    3. Don't expect too many Special Characters to get a model update for now. The focus will be to ensure every unit entry has model representation, plus 2-3 new things, while old kits will be updated down the road (to justify supplements, keep 6th edition going, etc.).

      Delete
    4. No ones allowed a new character model till Abaddon gets one!

    6. @Drake. Abaddon has a brilliant model at Forge World. A but expensive but well worth the gold.

      @stephen taylor:
No other release has seen a remake of an HQ that already has a model for sale.
Yeah those models need an update, but priority is in adding new stuff it seems.

      Delete
    7. Sorry I should have been specific. Abaddon the despoiler. The forge world model, whilst nice, is not of the warmaster of chaos. It is of the first captain of the sons of horus.

    1. As a space wolves player I really dont want a flyer, I want diversity from the other marines and one way is to not give us a flyer. They can make so much cool stuff in this codex. They dont need to just make us vanilla

      Delete
    2. I foresee the only flyer the wolves get will be some form of assault transport, possibly just a variant of the Stormraven.

      Delete
    3. I would kill for a stormraven variant, get my boys into the fight faster!

  10. The only thing I want to hear about this release is a heavy nerf to Jaws of the World Wolf and slight TWC nerf.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nope. Too many other codexes have too many good units/combos, and Wolves are showing their age, especially against armies like Eldar, Tau, Daemons, etc. Strictly lower mid-tier these days, no nerfs needed here.

      Delete
    2. With psykers randomly generating their powers, the random roll for it may be the Jaws of the World nerf itself.

As for the TWC, yeah, they could use a nerf. Lose a toughness or a wound or at the very least no longer have a storm sheild option.

      Delete
    3. Jaws will change, but so will Rune Staff. GW isn't going to allow any army to maintain that strong of an ability to say "no" to psychic powers.

Psychic powers are becoming a bigger part of the game. Not OP like Warhammer Magic, but also not completely unreliable...like Warhammer Magic. So far, they've nailed it. Jaws and Rune Staff will both likely be affected.

If GW maintains their current 6th edition track record, however, Space Wolves will get plenty in return for this so-called "nerfs." Though really...it's not a "nerf" when it's a new rules set. We aren't in 5th edition anymore.

      Delete
    4. Did Dark Angles get their own powers? No.
Will Space Marines get their own powers? No

Will any other marine chapter get them? Nope.

As for Runic Weapons: A change can be okay, but Space Wolves are the anti-mages, so it should have something down the lines of what it is today.

TWC work the way they do today beccause of the wounds and the toughness... And removing gear options WILL NOT HAPPEN!
They will probably stay the same. (And are not OP imo)

      Delete
    5. You'll definitely have to roll on powers though. Or they'll just scrap the powers and make people use rulebook powers, like they did for SM.

      Delete
    6. SWs may be anti-psyker in mind set, but they are by no means protected from it. Go read A Thousand Sons, they get ripped to shreds by psykers

      Delete
    7. Standard Space Wolves are defenseless against psykers, agreed, but we're talking about rune priests, who are exceptionally trained to defend against maleficarum/psykers.

      Delete
    8. But I wouldn't be upset over a tiny nerf to runic weapons denying psychic powers, maybe change the 4+ denial to a 5+.

      Delete
    9. The denial will be gone, replaced with a better DTW roll, possibly with a range much like the psychic hood. But the blanket 4+ denial of ALL powers will be removed.

      Delete
    10. Although its likely they will nerf the rune staff, I hope they won't. Its fitting for the SW's. I feel the same for Jaws - leave it the way it is.
As for TWC...seriously? You want to nerf them?? They've already been nerfed due to codex creep. I haven't seen anyone play them successfully since Eldar and Tau were released. They get shot down before they get to their destination. Sure they're a great distraction, but they're not difficult to take down with mass shooting and are simply not cost efficient for their current role.

  11. My wish list would include improved iron priests that are more in line with Vanilla Marines' tech priests, access to thunderfire cannons and Vanilla storm talons (and maybe storm ravens), flak missiles for long fangs, a better invul save for Bjorn, and updated models for Grimnar, Ragnar, and wulfen.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Oh, and massive points drops for Grimnar, Ragnar, Njal, Bjorn, Ulrik, Lukas, and Arjac. Other codexes now boast better for much less.

    2. I hope they hit the wolves armory with a nerf bat the size of Russ's ego. Why should they get +1 str power weapons and better lightning claws, how about a rule that they have to follow the downside to the oaths, maybe the frost blade could be should swing at I1 like the blade of caliban.

      Delete

      Delete
    4. I can agree with downsides to oaths, but that's about it. You lack perspective: Wolves have an AP3 +1 strength weapon at initiative, but we don't have DA's darkshroud, fliers, good bike units, cheaper and sometimes better special characters, more expansive armory, tough 5 termies, etc.

      Delete
    5. Besides a frostblade is not a power weapon in price, it is the price of a power fist (and we don't get relic weapons)

Wolf Claws will change, but they are still WOLF CLAWS so should be different.

In the end codex envy is bad, and a codex should be internally balanced, not balanced based on comparing it to the others who have other toys.

      Delete
    6. I'm gonna agree with Azrell here, I'm gonna bet that frost weapons are gonna be I1, If the DA and new SM codexs tell us anything, all bonus strength weapons are being given the unwieldy rule unless its an artifact weapon.

Like Arzell said, the nerf bat from the frozen hell is coming

    2. Yeah, for me Wolves aren't working in 6th. I just cant make my style of wolf fit with 6th :P In 5th I was a happy puppy though.

Now I am enjoying my Dark Eldar more, and hopefully my Space Marines on saturday :D

      Delete
    3. I don't think Wolves as an army are OP, they just have a couple of OP units (RP and LF) that get spammed, and it doesn't help that neither of these units really fit the fluff/army style.

With the general 6th edition nerf to psychic powers, the RP will probably be toned down to reasonable levels and the spam will ease off, especially if the power denial gets nerfed. LF spam would be reduced if the Wolves had a better option at Heavy Support.

  18. Great so my 3 armies are getting an update within 3-5 months of each other as the rumored schedule stands. Guard Jan/March, Bretonnia April, Wolves May. Anyone interested in a kidney for sale?

As far as the new book I would like it if Lone Wolves maybe had another attack, better blood claws, and thus cheaper/versatile bike and jump units. I'm getting a little tired of the static builds in 6th because there are so many auto-take units (Grey Hunters, Long Fangs, etc) with few alternatives for the points.

Also excited to have our own warlord traits.

I don't have a problem with frost blades. Not every strength boosted weapon is unwieldy - look at the axe of blind fury.
