Answers: When Will We See a Forgeworld Update for Space Marines

A lot of us in this hobby play space marines, there is just no way around it. Forgeworld chapters have long been a great avenue to take these space marine collections a step further, along with Characters from chapters such as Salamanders and Raven Guard.

With the new Space Marine codex out, I am sure a lot of you are wondering when we will see updates from the Forgeworld regarding Space Marines.

One of our readers here, was gracious enough to forward a copy of Forgeworld's response to these questions.

We are currently working on an update first for the Chapter Tactics and then for the Space Marine Characters to bring them in line with the new codex.  These will appear as PDF downloads on our website, however, it is likely to be up to a couple of months before these are completed and available to download.

  1. So the chapters with FW love get their own CT's? Sweet. I'm looking forward to seeing the revised rules for the characters with keen anticipation.

  2. Here's the response I got from FW:

"Thank you for your email. We are currently working on a 2nd Edition version of IA 2, which is likely to be released early next year and this will be up to date with both 6th Edition 40k and the new Space Marine Codex. We will also produce some updates for the Badab War books to bring them in line with the new codex. However, it is likely to be a little while before this this makes an appearance in the downloads section of our website."

  3. Ooh wow, a couple of months?
By that time we will probably have Supplements already for all of them :o

    1. Two at most... Two months doesn't sound like a lot to me.

    2. It can also mean 6 months.

I would prefer it if they just did a small 'band-aid' fix, like:
"The following units have Chapter Tactics:.."
"Shadow Captain Korvydae: Add Chapter Tactic (Raven Guard) to his profile."

Anyway, I will just houserule the obvious stuff for now.

    3. yeah, they'd be best served to say "this chapter is a x sucessior"

    4. Amen to that.

Some of the fixes may not be that dramatic. For example Lord Asterion Moloc currently confers Preferred Enemy: Space Marine upon his detachment. However, he negates the current basic CT for Ultramarines. You could have a cake-&-eat-it-situation where the detachment benefits from both the new Ultramarine Chapter Tactics AND Moloc's special rule a la Marnius Calgar.

    5. Chapter tactics Minotaurs have always been something that changed when you take the chapter master. I see them doing their effect army wide, i.e., your army has Fearless and Hatred: Space Marines

    6. Hatred: Space Marines! That would twisted indeed from a semi-codex Astartes chapter.

    7. Actually my gaming group went over this as I run Minotaurs. Anyone with combat tactics replaces them for Chapter Tactics as per ASterion's rules. There is no such thing as combat tactics anymore so thsi simply doesn't work. until it is FAQd by RAW you jsut use a Chapter Tactic and Asterion's ability is redundant. At first I was giddy!

    8. Yup. I say your one-hundred percent right. Hopefully that FAQ is sped to use on wings.

  4. I hope for all the Minotaurs players loving the new codex that they don't make drastic changes.

    1. This 100%. If I lose my Preferred enemy from Moloc I'll be very unhappy. I've been using him and my Minotaurs happily to punish other SM players since IA10 came out.

    2. Even then....his profile in IA12 is updated for 6th. So I'am not too terribly worried.

  5. yeah, I'm happy w all the new mahreen love but they need to get the eldar stuff updated sometime.

    1. Agreed, I want to know if Corsairs have battle focus.

  6. Korvydae doesn't really need changing, aside from points possibly to bring him more in line with the changes made. He doesn't really have any game-changing rules IIRC besides assault marines as troops

    1. The problem is the new 'Winged Delivery'-rule.
If I let him join a group of ASM, RAW he can't benefit from that rule and that means the entire squad cannot benefit from that rule.
(Only the "reroll HoW" works, but only if they didn't use the JP in the moving phase)

  7. Well be interesting to see how this effects the Carcharadons.

    1. Yep! As a group that only has one character entry and not as much filled out as things like the Minotaurs or Astral Claws, it'll be interesting to see what they do with Tyberos.

As he is, he's not busted or broken at all, but I could see them doing away with the Troop Lightning Claw Terminators and doing away with the conditional rage (where when a unit kills something, they get rage) and instead getting Rage as a general rule for certain units...

    2. If anything, their chapter tactics rules actually work fine (2 rules in a way, the furious charge and rage mechanic, plus the swap bolters for BP/CCW). Really though, their chapter master needs to get those lovely new chapter master rules! It also wouldn't hurt if his weapon was a bit more interesting, since everyone can now take a lightning claw + chain fist and call it a day.

    3. Yeah I'm curious about my Astral Claws, unknown primarch makes a custom chapter tactic most likely.
