Leaked: 9th Edition 40k Pre-Orders/Release Dates

As soon as the big announcement went live we were all wondering just how close the release of the new edition is?

Well with a little insight we are seeing from a source that those dates will be July 11th for Pre-Orders with 2 Weeks of Pre-Orders and the release date being on the 25th of July.

For now take this as a rumor but the source is rather reliable.

  1. So, 8th became a strat and cp mess. 7th a formation and deathstar mess. I wonder what is going to mess up 9th, apart from lack of balance between factions, could it be CP and terrain that will be the issue?

    1. I assume it will be boring internet virgins much alike yourself that will ruin 9th edition.

    2. Wow, Guess some are easily offended. So in all honestly, if you even played 7th you should know that formations was a disaster and if you ask anyone with common sense that played at that time most would probably agree. But you maybe fielded the librarian conclave on bikes and had a great time.
8th, well we are quit many who has complained about they way CP was gained and how soup got away with a lot, and the Strategems are to many. Some abilities that should have been rules on datasheet are now strategems which for some factions work great but for others not so great. And how many strategems are there for Astartes right now?
To bad you couldn't answer in a more grown up way, but you field Astartes right?

    3. Completely agree with your dislikes for previous editions especially 7th, but your comment on 9th is very pessimistic and very tiresome to read. As messy as 8th is, it is the best edition so far and 9th sounds like an improvement on that.

    4. 8th is wank. 7th is the best edition so far. Followed by 3.5.

8th is good for low iq monkeys who don't really like tabletop wargame because they're too complicated. 8th turned the wargame into a tabletop arcade game and its boring af right now.

Compare a batrep from any edition beofr 8th to a game of 8th and tell me the Battlefield doesn't look significantly worse. You've got big blobs of shit everywhere. Basilisks pointing away from enemies yet still shooting them. No cover, or movement penalties s. They replaced death star units with death star armies. CP and Strategems painfully boring, imbalanced and just not fun.

But go on an keep bootlicking.

    5. It'll be exactly the same type of mess pretty much. Formation clutter = CP Spam and Soup. One of the key promises of 8th was that you'd not have to carry around as many books as before. It's just as bad now or worse, and it's only been 2.5 years right?

They need to go back to the vanilla 1HQ + 2 Troops force org chart. With a maximum of 1,1,1,1,1 for allies. 1 Hq, 1 Elites, 1 Troops, 1 Fast attack, 1 Heavy Support. Build like this and keep your chapter tactics and doctrines.

Or if you want a proper soup army, just make one and get no chapter tactics and doctrines at all.

This would seriously help cap power gamers and power builds.

    6. Why don't you play 7th edition with your mates then and others can play 8th/9th with there's and stop throwing a strop over Warhammer?

    7. I wouldnt say 7th is the best, but sure as hell was better than 8th

    1. They're not trying to keep secrets, they want this stuff to drip feed out there so people get excited in anticipation and ready their wallets.

    40k is stupid.

    1. Is it? Video games are constantly updated and it keeps players interested. I see no difference here.

      Delete
    2. Constant patch updates do the opposite of keeping people interested imo. I fell out of love with Starcraft, LOL, Hots, Hearthstone and a bunch of other games because of the updates. What's the point of investing time into something that has no consistency?? Anytime I get enough practise in to be confident with a certain build the balance is arbitrarily changed. I might have spent a long time trying to aquire certain cards or certain build orders only for that investment to be made moot.

Minor changes are good, but constant change is bad.

    3. Most video games are patched with minor updates for free. Sequels games are $60, unless you want to go for the special editions, in which case you spend $80-$100. You then don't have to buy anything again for that game's life span. I spent over $300 on army books alone for 8th ed. I'm not spending that much money again on a game that has become basic and hollow. Video games are not a good comparison to 40k.

    4. It's an ever evolving game and has been since its creation. If you don't like spending money you are definitely in the wrong hobby!

      Delete
    5. Well, this will be the first edition change since 2017 so this clearly isn't true. The last one before that (7th ed) was in 2014

      Delete
    6. You don't need to re-purchase video games after an update. Yet every time 40k makes changes you need to buy new Rule books/ Codexes/ Chapter Approved etc. If you want to keep changing the way the he is played to keep players interested, make all the books free for players. (We already pay over the top prices for the models)

  5. Only one thing is certain about 9th edition, that it will be an utterly egregious fanfare of Imperial bias, designed and written with marines specifically in mind. It has always been so, non-chaos(and im guessing necrons as well...$$$$) xenos stumbling about in the dark and scrambling to buy whatever units don't suck that 6mo time interval b/c most of the time half or more of their models are worthless garbage. Look what knights did to 8th ed. Then compare the first psychic awakening book(pathetic junk, just miserable, no strats, no relics for CW or Dark eldar, bogus custom attributes, the Ynnari joke, etc., just a travesty) to the most recent one(unbelievable OP-ness, spend 5 minutes comparing pteraxii, 15pts to swooping hawks, 13pts, or the sad sad scourges, 12pts unequipped). Or maybe do a careful analysis of the thunderfire cannon, its stats(2+, 2+, 2+, 2+, 2+, 2+ blah blah, and don't forget devastator doctrine), its character and its points... I have exclusively played eldar since they could be exclusively played and in the past I have been the best shooting army, no more, the best deep-strike army, no more, the best psychic army, no more, and for a brief moment the best flyer army, whammy nerfed, no more. GW will not soon forget the huge mistake they made with Ynnari and I've no doubt the entirety of 9th ed. will be my punishment for that miscalculation. Nerf after Nerf after Nerf, all b/c O-M-G eldar won a major tourney. Melee indeed, now That my guys have never been good at(never minded)... And so I must hit the hip and pay the $$$ to buy harlequins b/c that's cheaper than buying heavy into haemonculi. What had been this go round was to cherry pick from 3 subfactions all "soupy" like and use planes as tanks to survive is Gone, but if your an idiot, a newb, a GW dev or a tournament minded player, Rejoice! 9th edition will literally be just for you and your marines and it will be Glorious!

    1. The Emperor thanks you for your salty tears.

    2. Hey man, lot of saltiness here. Here's a tip that helped me enjoy the game a lot more that might work for you. Quite simply:

      Treat is as a game.

Who cares who wins? Who cares who loses? Spend some quality time with your mates with your favorite toys. Play some fun narrative missions! Blow stuff up! Laugh when you get splatted and give yourself an advantage for next time!

There's a lot of potential for joy in this hobby, I personally play Chaos, out of the 10 games with this army, I have won 2. Do I care? No, because I am having a good time with my mates. Just some food for thought :)

  6. Simple and predictable, precisely what I would expect from Southpark's version of a 40k marine player. Your lack of any argument speaks volumes so perhaps some more specific examples will make mine more clear. Lets start by comparing some detachment abilities:
Example A: Iron hands Vs Ulthwe
Iron hands: 6+fnp, 5+ ow, x2 wounds for penalties(that's 3 abilities), add further, no fear, bolter disc, shock assault and chapter doctrine bonus for a total of 7 bonuses.
Ulthwe: 6+fnp, battle focus(worthless considering how short ranges are for most eldar guns, so yay you can run up and shoot so as to better be slaughtered by basic weapon marines and shock assault+whatever).

And this example is by no means the exception, most marine chapters have 3 nice bonuses of some kind, most craftworlds one, mostly mediocre at best. But speaking of range lets compare some successor tactics with custom CW traits:
    Example B: Range bonuses
Successor tactic: +3" range to ALL weapons, flamers, melta, pistols, unit specifics, the lot...(nice for rapid fire too, yay bolter disc)
Craftworld trait: +4" to shuriken weaponry ranges, all 4 of them, shuriken pistol, catapult, avenger catapult and cannon(not a real cannon, more like a heavy bolter)...

This comparison is again not the exception as by and large the worst successor tactics are equivalent to the best craftworld traits. Then, just for a moment consider something truly unprecedented. Games Workshop released the new marine codex(s) after the points reductions in the 2019 Chapter Approved had already been decided. That is correct, a massive buff simultaneous with a near across the board points reduction. Like giving candy to little babies with diabetes, but GW's little babies so all is well indeed. And very soon, in weeks to come, something else will happen that has never happened before, a faction will have gotten 3 sequential codex revisions in the same span that some factions will have gotten only one. Who you might ask? Well GW's babies that's who!

So next time you lose a game to any eldar, tau, stealers or nids etc.(any non marine/chaos/necron $$chaching$$ junk) know this. You lost for two reasons, 1)you suck and 2)Your emperor wears no clothes.

  7. Corpse emporer always shits in his bed for last 10k years too. Nurgle approves

I think 9th wil be great. Its looking good so far. They have said, all PA books written with 9th in mind. 8th has got armies more balanced than ever before. Sure, there have been those that broke the game, got nerfed, and something else rose instead. That's a changing living ruleset that trys to improve to iron out the death stars. 7th taught GW how deaths tars kill the game. 8th has been about finding balance and adding flavour to armies via strategems and relics.

I really expect hen we get the full 9th ruleset, the eldar PA which has been a joke til now, will suddenly make more sense.

As a chaos player, every new rule tease, I'm going book, reading faith & fury and seeing use for stuff I've not touched and concidered useless so far.

The reason 40k holds so many of us is the narrative and setting. If we wanted a fully balanced game with a pretty fixed ruleset that relatable to real life we would all be playing the historic war games such as Hail Ceaser and Bolt action.

We want a sci-fi game though, with laser battles. Huge tanks and monsters, and super soldiers fighting aliens. Its a narrative that hasn't ended, so it's still being written.

For the whole of 8th, chaos has sucked. Do I care?
No. Because when I'm playing against my mates, I get to say, "you might be winning this battle, but we just fucked up the whole galaxy.

9th, I'm expecting will be more balanced at launch than any other edition. PA has laid the groundwork. Major tournaments have been included, in testing and rules. 8th got dumbed down to make game flow, and look at balance issues. Old rules are now returning, in new ways, with all this in mind. How can anyone blast apart an edition before its released lol.

As to constant updates. Do I hate how much I spend on this hobby. Of course I do. However, I also know that GW is a global business. That means profits for shareholders are a major driving factor. Exactly the same as every other global business. GW is one of the oldest and most successful miniatures manufacturers out there. We all know of many other great ones that have come and gone, or struggle to keep a small market share. GW have found a working business model. No one can blame them for using it. Our wallets keep them going.

Roll on 9th. My deathguard, alpha legion, nightlords and black Legion are ready to hit the tables.

Oh and I'm calling it now. First 8th edition Codex : black Legion based around the fall of the brake drakes.

Black Legion are not in the Csm codex and can only be found in Vigilus.
