New Tau Models Leaked

These are floating around now, and you can see a new commander, and it looks like new Crisis suits. Definitely these look similar but different. Check out the latest Tau leaks.

These come from the painting guide. Thanks Atia.

  2. I think that the knee pads are to represent body guards for the commander.

    1. XV8 knee pads originally cropped up on Forge World XV89 Crisis Suits, I know this because mine has them. It's slightly more armoured than a standard XV8 and the arm hardpoints are FAR better placed.

  3. I like that the commander suit is substantially taller, and they look to have sorted the hip joints. I'm sorely tempted now to add them to the wish list, especially the commander!

  4. That thing is massive! I am hoping it will have improved stats.

    1. The Crisis Suits are probably on 50mm bases and the Commander is probably on a 60mm base. The Commander could easily be Monstrous Creature-sized and could very well have stats to match.

  5. I already have a slew of suitably sized model cars. Am sculpting heads and hands.

Soon, soon... my Autobot Army will roll out ;)

I have enough for about 10 Crisis Suits, 2 Broadsides (Ultramagnus and Jetfire), Riptide (Omega Supreme) and Commander (Prime)

    2. Fine - I'll admit it...

Decepticons - the only army less accurate than Storm Troopers.

    3. At least they hit something ūüėÉ

    4. Oh? Stormtroopers can't aim? I know about a dozen Jawas, and a certain aunt and uncle that would disagree. By the way, how is Leia's shoulder?

    5. Now I'd love to see an Autobot army!

  6. Tau are certainly getting a lot of attention for this release. Most armies got some new kits to replace old ones (e.g., Space Marines, Eldar) and maybe one or two new units (e.g., Space Wolves, Orks). Tau are getting two new big suits, a couple new kits to replace old ones, new Troop sub-types, and even Fortifications.

It looks like GW is trying to convince us to start Tau armies. If I weren't already bogged down in Space Marines and Mechanicus, they would definitely have me convinced by this point.

    1. I'm feeling this too, I have Harlies, CWE, DE, Orks, DA, BA, SM, CSM, Daemons, Knights, Nids, Guard. Now these new tau models come out and I'm feeling the pull, but thankfully for my wallet I have too much stuff sitting here!

    2. Much of the Tau range (Some ethereals, Fire Warriors, Crisis Suits, and vehicles) is from the original 3rd edition; replacing the molds was probably long overdue, and the new kits are there to fill in gaps, or came about from needing the new molds. Plus, you've got much of their resin range that they are trying to replace now, which creates a further push for new stuff.

  7. Every Tau release I keep (not so) secretly hoping for more alien auxiliaries, my Kroot and Vespids are lonely :(

    1. What about some Imperial Guard? :P They're alien....

well - alien if you're a Tau anyway.

    2. I so would love a Kroot minidex and some plastic Vespids... It was the only thing I was hoping for during this release.

    3. Gue'vesa rules would be incredible! Always loved the idea of humans who abandon the Imperium for the Greater Good (I know I probably would!)

      Delete
    4. Have to agree with all this. More exploration of auxiliaries would be awesome. Specially now the main tau force seems to be pretty well outfitted. Gue'vesa could be serviced with an upgrade sprue for Cadians.

    7. I used to think Tau where a really nice race who looked out for anyone who would join them and where just trying to survive against the horrors of the Galaxy...

Then I heard that some races are forced into joining the Tau and Gue'Vesa are castrated and kept in terrible conditions and suffer more from Stockholm Syndrome than actually willingly fighting for the Tau...

Is this still the case or can Tau be considered "good"
      Again in the latest fluff???

    8. 'a really nice race'...are we talking about the same 40k?
There are no really nice races in 40k because this is what's happened to them all in the last 10 000 years...

'Oh look, humans have arrived, let us go and greet them in peace and brotherh- [BLAM!].' 'We claim this planet in the name of The Emperor'.
      or
'Oh look, elves have arrived let us go and greet them in peace and brotherh- [BLAM!].' 'Fool, this planet was ours long before it was yours.'
      or
"Ooh look, elves in spiky leather have arrived, let us go and greet them in peace and brotherh- [BLAM! - followed by screaming from a slow, poison charged death].' 'Your suffering will nourish our God, mwah hawhaw'.
      or
''oh look, some robot-human types have arrived, let us go and greet them in peace and brotherh- [BLAM!].' 'You didn't get all your technology from us, it is therefore an affront to our god. Die scum, while we steal your ideas and later pretend they were ours all along."
      or
'Oh look, heavily armed robots are crawling out of the ground everywhere, .. even we aren't dumb enough to greet that with open arms - Open Fire!
      or
      well, you get the idea

    9. I remember a fluff segment I read somewhere in which the Tau came under attack by Tyranids and where being wiped out, untill a nearby Necron Tomb world woke up and wiped out the Tyranids. When the Necron ships landed on the Tau planet, the Tau welcomed their saviours with open arms and celebration... The Necrons however cared not and opened fire on the Tau as soon as they left their ships.

    10. I'd still rather work for the Tau than the Imperium though. Life in the Imperium would make Thomas Hobbes wince =P

I'm no heretic, just that Tau look like they might have juice and sandwiches, instead of recycled water and Imperial Protein Gruel =P

    11. @ damo I think you are thinking of that one time the IG and Blood Angels were saved by the Necrons in the Leviathan campaign. Not the Tau. :)

  8. GW are trying REALLY hard to kill my wallet. Everything except the stormsurge tempts me so much....

    ReplyDelete
  9. Are the Crisis suit legs really posable at the knee, or are there just multiple pairs of legs at different angles?

    ReplyDelete
  10. A few things to notice.

In the first picture the last suit between the stormsurge and ghost keel has a different torso. This is the only model like this in either shot.

It appear that the suits have similar arm construction like the riptide. By that two piece construction that meets at the elbow allowing greater poses.

Weapon options seem to be the same but the flamer has been redone.

As mentioned larger bases but that helps the suits look more dramatic than gen 1 models.

Fingers crossed that the commander is not in a static pose as shown and can be altered.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So is the Coldstar an elite/fast attack variant of the commander suit to make it so people will buy multiples of the kit?

    1. It's probably just a Character/upgrade, I don't think that GW would bother with FA Battlesuits when Forge World already has that very well covered?

  12. I think I might sell my 48 unpainted Fire Warriors and start from scratch with the new ones (which I wasn't originally going to do) but I just want the extra drones and turret things (and even numbers) I'll get from buying 12 boxes of the new ones.

    1. Is it possible that the Fire Warriors Strike Force is going to be the old Fire Warriors with a new name? It might be worth hanging on to at least a few of them if it is.

      Delete
    2. Well yes, but if the new kit makes all types of Fire Warriors then I may sell them.
Mobviously im going to wait till they go up for pre-order before making that decision.

      Delete
    3. the new kits makes both ^^ strike teams and breach teams

      Delete
    4. Anybody want 48 unpainted Fire Warriors???

      Delete
    5. Do the Strike Teams use the classic Fire Warrior helmet or the new helmet? I'm hoping for the latter since I always confuse Fire Warrior teams with Pathfinders from across the table.

      Delete
    6. I'd say they still use the classic helmets. Don't think it really matters though. Give them the new helmets if you want, as long as both you and your opponent know what they are.

  13. I hope you can still run crisis in ones because on bases that size deepstriking 3 plus drones is gona get tricky

    1. I haven't had any trouble. My melta suits with gun drones usually drop in close to vehicles all the time.

      Delete
  14. Is that crisis suits now on 60mm bases? I'm guessing the suits will now come in 3's with slightly differing hull, shoulder guards etc judging from the pictures. If only I didn't already have 12 crisis suits from the early days of Tau! They look very nice

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They're definitely bigger than the old 40mm bases. I think Broadsides are on 60mm bases, which suggests that the smaller Crisis suits are now on 50mm bases. The Commander is probably on a 60mm base.

      Delete
  15. Hopefully the new crisis suit kit will have enough of the gun options, the current kits are only one of each gun per suit which makes it hard to do a squad with matching pairs of guns (my favorite loadout is two with 2x plasma guns and 1 with 2x fusion guns and a target lock, I used to call that setup a breacher team funnily enough).

  16. I've never had a desire to play Tau before, but those new models may change my mind
