Here is a link to the pics. Why in Black and White, I have no idea.

  1. Interesting to see that the Solitaire is an Elite's choice. I wonder what's an HQ, if there is one. I'm getting more and more worried that this will just be a dataslate for CW Eldar and not Dark Eldar. I hope I'm wrong :D

    1. It looks like they have their own faction symbol (or the shared Eldar one from the ally matrix) and NOT the CW Eldar faction symbol.

      Delete
    2. They do have a unique faction. That is the Harlequin rune in the faction symbol location on any dataslate.

    3. Isn't there something higher than a solitare?

      Delete
    4. @Chris: Yes. In the old WD 105 Harlequin army list it was the High Avatar. In Codex Eldar 1994 it was the Great Harlequin if I recall correctly. He's basically one of the Laughing God's most trusted servants and each Troupe of Harlequins has one as the main leader.

      Delete
    5. I think it makes sense, a Solitiare usually isn't a leader in anyway, I would say he's more similar to a lone wolf which I believe is also a Elite.
@chris, theres the Great Harlequin who is usually the over all leader but you have High Avatars, troupe masters, shadowseers and such

      Delete
    6. One of the pages says that they join all Eldar despite disposition, so I would assume Eldar and Dark Eldar. Great Harlequin would be my guess as an HQ or a Shadow Weaver.

    7. The link to the colour photos down below shows a Harlequin wearing half a Dark Eldar Wych mask. Apparently the Harlequins recruit from the Craftworlds, and from Commorragh. They probably recruit from the Corsair outcasts too.

  2. They are black and white pics!!!! Of all the models to have no color pics!!! It's just mean... Now I'm sad. BUT YAY HARLEQUINS!

    3. The pic was pixilated unlike usual leaks. Just like these being black & white has not ever happend before.
Wich is bizarre since every Handy cam can do better pics.

I can belive what i want & you do the same!

No need to go on a rant every day about it! Or have you got no Life?

    4. ^ why explain yourself. no one cares. as you commonly state in defense of anything.

      Delete
    5. If everyone can believe what they want, Seb, then why do you berate anyone who's happy for a release? Why do you attempt to piss in everyone's cereal every week? Why do you only act like some sort of, "hey, can't we all get along?" advocate when you're clearly wrong about something? And I don't mean opinions, I'm talking facts.

      Delete
    6. Hey seb can you say that the sisters of battle won't be next after Harley's please.

      Delete
    7. @Seb, sorry dude, it was a cheap shot that I couldn't resist. And yes, I've got no life...;). Just to prove it....Yay Harliquins! I'm sooo excited. There goes another 3 months of my life down the drain whilst I paint the buggers....

  4. Generally speaking, mini-supplements like this don't have proper HQ slots (legion of the damned, for instance), but they get a character that can be upgraded in a similar way as an HQ.

    1. The small codexes are:
      Inquisition: has many HQ's
Sisters of Battle: has many HQ's
      Scions: has 2 HQ's
      Knights: no HQ
      LotD: no HQ

So no, not necessarily. We have another week of releases to get through though so we'll see

  5. Buying some and a Solitaire (because they're gorgeous) but... I'm just struggling to justify taking them over incubi in a gaming setting. Incubi are MUCH more durable and always hit at S4 AP2 with every single attack. As a unit for killing HQs and Elites, it just seems that Incubi are superior and more reliable in every way.

Honestly, I feel like I'm missing something here.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Incubi are absolutely worth 5pts more imo. For the extra 5pts you get guaranteed S4 and AP2 on all your attacks, a +3 save and +5 FnP (if you last until turn 3).

The pistol weapons are nice, but Dark Eldar can spam Di

      Delete
    2. Sorry, we can spam Disintegrators to kill +2 units and we have *so* much anti-mech for less pts that the Fusion Pistol becomes redundant.

Ah well, they'll look cool as hell in my display case! =P

    7. Clowns are better.
For the same points (15+5=20) they get harlequin's kiss and kill much better much more stuff (4 attacks on the charge). 3 with str 4 and one with str 6 ap 2.
5 guys are 5 str 6 ap2 and 16 str 4 attacks. They also hit and run, charge anywere, and strike first almost always.

      Delete
    8. Oh and you also instadeath guys one 6s to wound at the ap2 attacks.
This means that you can kill every single thing that doesnt have a huge invu, but even storm shields are gona have a bad time.

      Delete
    9. Much, much worse against MEQs (my main opponents). 5 AP2 attacks and 11-16 rending attacks that are only S4 on the charge just isn't as reliable as 11-19 S4 AP2 attacks (Rampage dependent). And insta-death on 6s is still unreliable as hell.

Hit and run is of questionable worth too, considering you don't want to potentially spend a shooting phase being shot at by the squad you failed to kill before you can charge someone else. Also, Incubi strike most things first as well, and do so with much better attacks.

Another point in the favour of Incubi is their durability, like a said. Harlies are T3 with only a ++5 to protect them. Bolters will laugh at that. Hell, you charge a squad with a flamer, you're probably guaranteed to lose a dude. At least Incubi offset their low toughness with a good save and FnP.

Sorry, I just see very little worth for these guys in a Dark Eldar list. Craftworlders, maybe, I don't know enough about them to comment.

      Delete
    10. Craftworld Eldar need Harlequins as a Howling Banshee replacement. I'd be willing to replace Scorpions too in my lists.

      Delete
    11. Harlies with caress have the old rending rule so it's pretty much clear that they have actually bested incubi with this. Let's say 8 harlies charging against meq. Numbers give 5 ap2 autowounds and then another 12 wounds which numbers talking would save two thirds that's 9 dead guys on the pointy end of the harlies' weapons

      Delete
    12. Wow. Wait. Forget rending what about Embrace? D3 *auto* I10 S6 attacks on the charge. So:-

      A troupe of 6 for 140pts = 25 S4 I6 and 6-18 I10 S6! Thats 31-43 attacks on the charge from 6 models! For 140pts. CC War Walker?

A troupe of 12 generates up to 85 attacks! For 260pts.

At that level of attacks who gives a crap what their saving throw is - they are going down...;).

As noted, we'll need to see what the Shadowseer and Starweaver bring, but with Hit&Run already these guys could be utterly brutal. Woohoo!

      Delete
    13. I dont know many things about DE, but as the guys above said, new harlies kick so much ass, and can kill every single thing put against them!
If you don't like them thats fine, but also doesn't mean they are weak or useless in any way.

    1. So 280 points of marines (140 if in double tap range) can kill him if he is completely horribly positioned?
With being such a small model combined with an insane movement, that should not be a problem.

      Delete
    2. Too bad Space Marines don’t have any cheap, reliable ways to deposit a squad exactly where they want….

But that’s arguing trees for the forest: point is, even with a 3++ he’s still a glass cannon and one that relies on rolling 6s to really be killing (otherwise he’s swinging S4 AP- except for a Kiss attack on the charge). Are there gonna be times he charges in and wrecks face? Sure – but there’s also gonna be plenty of times he slams into a unit and just bounces.

      Delete
    3. +1 Alendrel.

These Harlies seem to be a case of "utterly fantastic... If you roll 6s." Even as a casual player, I just don't see the point in these guys besides buying some as a sexy-ass display unit.

      Delete
    4. So far, what I'm seeing falls in that middle ground of "fun and useful", below "will shake up the competitive meta" but def way above "feel bad taking it cause its just that awful." Their biggest drawback, competitively, is their lack of reliable results.

Of course, we have yet to see the rest of the Harlequin goodies - who knows, once we have Shadowseers, Starweavers, and their detachment/formation bonuses, Harlies could be the new multi-colored cheese.

      Delete
    5. They are like any other Eldar unit. Against the right target they are amazing. In melee with a mob of Orks or Termagants? Not so much.

      Delete
    6. Agreed, dont base the army on seeing two units. There are still others, if the rumors are true, that still need to be shown. We havent seen the Codex/Data Slate for them. If you counted on this being a hyper competitive, stand alone army then you might need to look else where. This is going to be a nice add-on army I think or if you want something crazy (a stand alone army) it will work.

If you intend to run a Solitaire by himself, at a squad of Marines and expect him to win...probably going to have a hard time. If he is apart of a combined effort, then yep, he will do good. Plus we cannot discount what other goodies he can get from the Black Library

    7. Back in 4th edition we had an all-Harlequin player at a local store using Citadel Journal list. It was always an uphill battle for him but he had a ton of fun getting the most out of his models. There was never a dull moment with him around. I say if you don't care about winning and just want to have fun with 40k, play Harlequins and you won't be disappointed.

    8. +1 Starchild

I always play using models that I like, NOT based on their rules! Sure, I don't win very often but I enjoy it.

  9. I like the Solitaire mini but I'm disappointingly un-impressed with the others. They're just rehashes of the old metals, except the troupe master whose leg pose juts looks... off. Un-natural even for an Eldar. Nah. Save the Solitare I think I'll pass. Unless there's multiple options for em.

    1. I plan to make very dynamic leaping poses using the Witch Elf kit as a base to work from. With the extra masks I may even be able to make some extra players that way. Being plastic you should be able to make any pose you want.

  10. Interesting bit of wording on the Embrace and Kiss: they say a model equipped with the weapon gains X benefit, as opposed to the Caress which refers to hits by that weapon. Seems to indicate that the Kiss and Caress will stack with other weapons.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's my assumption too since none of these are Specialist Weapons.

      Delete
    2. Specialist Weapons are exceptions to the "two Melee weapons" bonus Attack - what I'm reading here is a potential exception to "only use the special rules for one weapon at a time" rule.

So far it only matters for the Solitaire, but if she can't use both the Kiss and Caress at the same time that...really limits her utility.

  12. What's a 'starweaver' dedicated transport??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. we dont know yet. Many people are assuming its a viper/venom-like vehicle. The name starweaver was originally rumored to be a jetbike by Darnok on Warseer, and later turned out to be a dedicated transport. So we are mostly guessing that it is something in-between.

Next week should be very interesting indeed.

    2. Maybe we'll get a new transport *and* jetbikes? We can always hope. And that is the beginning of unhappiness. (WD 100 quote lol)

  13. What was bad about a kiss being rending? Or did i miss something?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's probably the same reason that Bladestorm doesn't work against vehicles. There has to be some area of flesh the Kiss can be punched into to take effect. So basically kisses are just toned down a bit vs. vehicles. Harlequins will have to rely on other units for the anti-armour work. They do have fusion pistols and haywire grenades so that helps.

  15. SO blitz is actually 1d6 per turn number , so turn 5 is 5D6 movement! I wonder if fleet works?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There would be no need for Fleet with Blitz since the move ignores all terrain.

      Delete
    2. Fleet has no impact on Movement phase movement.

      Delete
    3. So a Run move with Fleet after Blitz would be possible, assuming that would even be needed on a good Blitz rill.

      Delete
    4. The Run would prevent assaulting.

  18. Where did you see Solitare as an elite choice? I'm not up on the newest edition...does unique mean one per army?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Reading the leaked pages I get the impression the Solitaire is an HQ choice. It specifically states that if the Solitaire is your warlord, he doesn't get a warlord trait.

This reminds me of the Sanguinary Priest. We all thought he would an elites choice but he turned out to be HQ instead iirc.

      Delete
    2. It says that it is an elite choice with the icon in the top left. It says the no warlord trait thing because you can have a non HQ warlord now and he is not the type of guy who is good at leading, just good at fighting.

  19. I just gotta bitch a little... $26 for one man sized damn model. I want to smack the people setting the prices.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Seeing as how people will only ever buy one, it wouldn't make GW any money otherwise. And no, they wouldn't sell a zillion if it were cheaper. GW doesn't have the supply load and demand in their niche market to make up for slim margins like Wal Mart.

It's called business, which 99/100 idiots on the internet don't understand.

      Delete
    2. That's how GW handles price creep now. Rather than increase prices across the board like they used to, now every new release costs a little more than the last one (comparing similarly sized models).

      Delete
    3. Seriously, the kibitzing on GWs business practices is pretty dumb. Yeah in a perfect work GW minis would cost .50¢ a model be made if the highest quality materials and be sculpted my Michelangelo but that's not the case. This isn't a cheap hobby, it isn't advertised as one. These guys have a business to run and I'd rather it cost a bit more than become another dead miniatures game.

  20. Would love to know what the enigmas of the black library do. They better be good considering its the freakin black library.

  21. I really wish GW would stop trying to base the minitures for me. Give me a great model and let me chose the base, no pose it on the same crappy run covered rock every time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm more concerned about the base size. It will be very annoying to buy more 25mm(?) bases if the new Harlequin box has 32mm bases. My whole army is still on the old bases and I don't want new models to look out of place.
