It's that time of year (around Christmas) that I am trying to find more time to read and pushing the family to do the same. That means I am digging through books I have that I have bought and not yet read and checking to see what warhammer books the library has gotten since I last made my rounds there.<br>

The screams filled the night, . There were no alarms, no warnings for what befell us. The still night had erupted in terror, and there was nothing and no one that could save us.<br />

I had been wounded in the initial strike, the burning toxins ravaging my body. As I lay there in the darkness being consumed from the inside, only the screams were able to break through my delirium.<br />

Soon my body had broken, the screams that were my own subsided.  I felt warm, the cool breeze of the open air on my face. At last I had found the respite of my own death, and I deftly welcomed it. </div>

Intent and welcoming, I open my eyes to see the lithe armored warrior that had claimed my life. I am without feeling, and he can sense my relief. </div>

While his face is covered by a helm that hides his features, I see the gleam in his eyes, the hunger. The pistol is already in his hand as he lowers his face to mine. The world erupts with ear piercing screams, new toxins anchoring me to this world, to begin my torment anew. The screams fill the night, and they are mine.<br />

I am in route to Valhalla, so thought a little themed story was in order. I believe I wrote this last August when I needed a sick day.</div>

Celene was beautiful, in every way Faeit could imagine. She was smart, fierce, and dedicated to the Ordo Hereticus. He had met her on Volscar Prime, dark hair flying wildly behind her, as she performed a lethal street dance with twin las pistols ablaze. She was venom and fire, and had killed 5 gangers within a few breaths. Feait could feel her fire within his every heart beat. He had taken her from Volscar and appointed her an acolyte of the Ordo Hereticus. <br />
<br />
The black smoke filled the air with sounds of bolter rounds striking the fuselage. Abruptly Faeit woke from his momentary stupor. The Templar were emerging from the ruins, firing in his direction. They had grounded and isolated their prey. The psyker they were here to kill, was in their sights and with single minded determination, the Templar drew their blades.  <br />
<br />
Feait felt the anger rise as the psychic energy within him swelled. Under a hail of bolter fire Faeit and his men forged ahead to meet the templar, firing bursts of plasma rounds into the advancing ceramite warriors. Even though several of marines fell to plasma blasts, Feait’s unit was immediately cut to shreds by incoming fire from all directions.<br />
<br />
<em>Charging through frantic laser fire, the champion gripped his sword fervently. The rogue Inquisitor was within his sights, and it was times like this that he could feel the Emperor’s fury. The inquisitor’s men were cut down, leaving only one other, a woman, and the Inquisitor himself. He saw the inquisitor take a sideways glance as his men fell, and the champion raised his bolt pistol in mid stride to take a perfectly timed shot into the exposed gap beneath the heretics helm.</em><br />
<br />
The bolt round exploded into the side of Faeit’s neck and face, removing a great deal of it. His visor was covered with his own blood, and his head rolled back. <br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">His vision was clouded with his own blood, and it ran down his throat in volumes. He could feel his body failing him, as it convulsed and gagged on its own fluids. His own mind was lost, floating towards oblivion. It was here, that he could see the far off light of mankind, the Emperor. Faeit reached out and grabbed it, focusing oblivion into a turbulent maelstrom of energy.</div><br />
He pushed Celene backwards and threw down his helm to stand amidst ricocheting rounds. The Templar were on top of him, swords readied to bring death to their enemy. <br />
<br />
Faeit’s voice rose rasping with blood “Ignorance of the Emperor’s will is no excuse, To stand against me is to stand against him! Witness your Judgment at the hand of the Emperor! “ <br />
<br />
The release of energy brought calm to the storm brewing inside. He stood on his own, empowered with clear vision. <br />
<br />
The Champion that had stood tall, shielded his face, and was suddenly and ultimately brought down. His determination shattered, his will broke by the blinding light that illuminated nothing but eternal damnation upon those that stood before the holy light of the inquisitor. <br />
<br />
The world simultaneously broke into anarchy. The ground shook with tremendous force, and exploded. Stone rained down in the explosions aftermath, as all around heavy cannon fire ripped through the ruins. A psychic choir screamed across the battlefield, and the Righteous Black Templar withdrew from the plaza ruins, leaving a trail of the fallen in their wake.

Inquisitor Faeit stood tall, stretching his arms and wrists outward to feel the strength of his powered armor. He pulled the blood red over a balding head, allowing the psychic energy to course down his spine where it mixed with the bodies own adrenaline. His eyes widened into the intense gaze of a madman as the anticipation of battle swelled with every breath. The visions had pointed here, to this planet, to these ancient ruins, and to a battle that would leave this crusade for the Emperor, swinging in the balance. He would not fail.  <br />
<br />
“Have I not already failed?” the words coming silently off his lips, in conflict with what was happening around him. This was not real, it was a dream, a memory. No, the realization came, it was his nightmare, the same nightmare.<br />
<br />
Behind him, the gunship’s engines had begun to whine, preparing to lift off. Around him blurry black carapace armored figures ran past Faeit, jumping up into the vendetta’s open door. Awaiting orders, surrounding chimera transports turned over their engines as the battle group prepared to advance into the ruined city. The hum of plasma guns charging, rang in his ears. and Faeit dropped down to one knee. <br />

The men would need unbending faith in him, and by invoking the power of the Emperor through prayer, even the lowliest soldier was willing to face death. He recalled that the Templar were moving against him, many would die. He numbly went through the motions of the dream, aware of the memory that was this dream and what was to come, but he was unable and possibly unwilling to break the cycle and wake.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Faeit stood, taking in the nightmare around him, it was a blur; the faces he knew indistinct. Then something peculiar happened, she walked by, and the blurriness of the dream focused, her image solid and clear. Faeit turned quickly from her, fearful she would catch his stare. This did not happen, he knew she was supposed to already be aboard the gunship. Where had she just come from?</div><br />
Intrigued, Faeit turned and boarded. Everyone including the acolyte Celene, were in their proper location, yet the blurriness of the dream focused everything to her. Their eyes met, and she smiled. It wasn’t her smile. Something else was there in the eyes, looking back at him, her smile a lie.<br />
<br />
“Incoming!” the speakers cracked from the pilot. The gunship shook violently with the explosion and reeled sharply to the right. Sparks showered the interior deck from above as one engine turbine was blown, bellowing black smoke throughout the cabin. The gunship was probably on fire above them and they were about to crash.<br />
<br />
He could hear his own thoughts as they were hit, furious, fiery, they thought only of the artifact. They played like a recording in the background. They were already flying into the plaza when they were hit, and Faeit found it peculiar that they had just taken off a moment ago. Dreams were strange, the passage of time and events unclear. Faeit’s grabbed a metal rail to brace himself against the impact. <br />
<br />
They crashed to the ground, the metal grab bar ripping out under the impact and strength of Faeits powered armor as he was thrown into the wall. He stood through it and staggered backwards, the pilot lowering his flying wreckage to the ground without tearing them apart, it was the last moments of his life. <br />

The black smoke was everywhere, covering their exit from the vehicle. Then Celene moved up beside him, where she moved, the smoke parted, and the dream focused. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>The open plaza in front of the temple stood before them. They had crashed into the center of the plaza with no cover but the billowing black smoke and flames of the gunship. The chimeras behind them had fanned out, firing their laser bursts into the ruins, deploying themselves amongst the rubble to protect artillery and flak tank batteries. <br />
<br />
From the other side of the plaza, the dark armored marines emerged from the ruins, their thick ceramite plates of black and white glistening in the dying light. In the distance, Faeit could hear the men bark futile orders, drowned out by the rising battle hymn of the Templar. In cue with the rising hymns, missiles leaving behind trails of white smoke, were fired from the Black Templar, followed by the rising chorus of bolter fire.<br />

The weapon created a dim amber light , faintly illuminating the darkness with a menacing glow. The plasma chamber of the pistol, now full, clicked, indicating the weapon was hot. The man beneath the covers grimaced at the sound in his sleep, he instinctively recognized the sound for what it was. The pistol was not an assassin’s tool, but neither was the man holding the gun an assassin. Commander Kireg, being a man of ruthless efficiency, and would not hesitate to use the weapon while the man slept. He knew what was about to transpire tonight, not because of premonition, but because every night the same nightmares would come, and it was his job and duty to make sure nothing crossed the void between dreams and reality. Tonight though, of all nights would be dangerously different. <br />
<br />
Kireg had once been part of the Imperial Guard, and in some circles was considered a brilliant military tactician. The secret of that truth was, he was very single minded, focused into only being able to see the objectives before him. Although a powerful strength, it was a weakness Kireg knew would someday be his downfall. His victories in the name of the Imperium were numerous, but were worth nothing to him. He achieved his objectives, but there was no means to an end, he was simply a machine without a purpose. That was until Lord Inquisitor Faeit, the man lying before him, discovered him and focused his talents into a purpose that would become a shinning beacon of relentless faith. <br />
<br />
He was taken to the Ordo Malleus; here he had learned of humanities covert war against mankind’s worst enemies, that had pushed mankind time and time again to the brink of collapse. For ten thousand years the inquisition of the Ordo Malleus had been vigilant, and had battled the physical manifestations of chaos. They are the daemons, hungry for the souls of the innocent, promising eternal life, power and riches, to corrupt the weakest of man. Kireg had left the military, becoming an acolyte to Lord Faeit, and pledged every living moment to purge the daemonic and the wicked from our midst by whatever means was necessary.<br />

Very few believed in Faeit’s revelations, in fact most thought him heading towards madness. Kireg, not only believed, but took them as his own. The vision that he would take on, should Faeit fall into the oblivion of his nightmares.<br />
<br />
The man beneath the covers stirred, his brow and jaw clenching as his nightmare was about to play out. Sweat formed on his forehead and face. The small jerks and twitches of the man’s body told of the progression of his tormented dream. Inquisitor Kireg had been there that fateful day, and knew the horrible events that took place that day, and of what was left behind.<br />
<br />
Suddenly the man’s face convulsed, unnaturally bulging just beneath his eyes. Blood welled up in the corners of his eyes and trickled down his cheeks. Coughing, he sprayed heavy drops of blood over his face and chest. He struggled for breath, nearly drowning in his own blood, but unable or possibly unwilling; to break free of the terror he was laying witness to.<br />
<br />
He raised the barrel of the plasma pistol to Faeit’s blood soaked face, the light of it revealing the terrified eyes of a child-like cherub, that stood over top the head board of the bed. The psychic connection the cherub shared with Faeit meant the creature could see everything seen in the nightmare, becoming an extension of the man in the bed. Finger on the trigger, he watched and waited.<br />
<br />
The imminent scream pierced the room, both man and cherub screaming in unison. The cherub’s voice was feminine, that of an angelic woman Kireg knew all too well. The scream echoed through the bedchamber, and when it finally ended, left a deafening moment of silence. Kireg's said goodbye in that moment, and pulled the trigger of the gun. <br />
<br />
The cherub let out a gasp of air, whimpering frantically the breath of the woman’s voice, “Catch me, I’m falling”. The bright flash of a plasma round filled the chamber.<br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     The admiral was a broad chested imposing man. Although his uniform supported numerous medals of victorious battles and command, it was his voice that boomed with authority. Bridge officers and crew alike, scrambled in haste at his command, and within moments he was alone.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     Admiral Silva turned towards the two astropaths standing in their alcove. They stood supported by wires and metal tubes that gave them life and focus. The flashing lights of the alcove flickered, as the primary lights to the command bridge were extinguished, only to be brought back online as back up power was restored. The containment field came on, causing the floor beneath the admiral's feet to vibrate with an audible hum.  Air circulation, power, and communications were now all localized within the containment field surrounding the Admiral's command bridge.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     The admiral looked across the room at the two remaining dark robed figures. They stood silently, their frail and blind bodies here held in place by steel brackets within the alcove. They hung there limp, their only purpose to receive and deliver and transmissions through the warp. The message he was waiting for, would be only one of two things. </div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     "I will be quick and painless, as much as I am able old friend", the admiral thought about the commander, Commander Kireg and his officers. He knew them all personally, for the imperial battlecruiser "Crusade" had been taken from his command less than a year ago by a dangerous, and immeasurably ambitious man of the Ordo Hereticus, Inquisitor Lord Faeit. Now his orders were to destroy the ship, and everyone on board. He simply awaited the order through astropaths message. He sat down, resting his elbows atop the sector display and waited.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     "Receiving message, priority Alpha", the astropaths replied in unison. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     It was only one of the astropaths that began to relay the message. Admiral Silva looked up from the display thinking about the silent astropath but for a moment. "Admiral Silva, of the Battleforce Hydra........" The lone astropath's voice continued on, his monotone dull voice drowned out by the flashing lights and warning sirens.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     The admiral was staring directly at the silent astropath as the massive demon erupted through the flesh of the fragile body, throwing its head and neck violently backwards as its chest exploded outwards.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

When its vision cleared, it looked down upon the dwarf sized human, as bright plasma shots tore into the demons flesh. Enraged, the demon grabbed the man's arm in one talon and it's body in the other. A quick pull ripped the offending arm off, disarming the man. One last plasma shot ripped into the chest of the demon as it tore the mans arm off, and both man and demon staggered backwards.</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     Sounds of lasfire could be heard outside the sealed doors to the command chamber. Both demon and man stood facing each other. The demons rage overwhelmed everything within it, its muscled rippled, its talons flexed. It took two slow steps towards the one armed admiral, who struggled to stand defiantly against the beast. As admiral staggered and fell to a knee, the demon grabbed him, and with it's inhuman strength, broke the mans body, his spine snapping a single sickening crack. </div></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     The demon turned towards the chambers door, and casually threw the dead mans body to the side. Within moments the demon had ripped open the floor panels, and the containment field failed.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">     A frantic battle took place as the demon left the admirals chambers and headed in the direction of the captains bridge. Las-shots followed by screams were heard in the demons wake. Back in the admiral's chamber, the sector display suddenly lit up, flashing a swarm of contacts, the fleet was under a heavy attack. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div>     Meanwhile, the surviving astropath, still locked in its trance, continued to repeat its lone message. "This is Inquisitor Mysorquel, rendezvous at 1200 hours to the assigned position, and commence the attack, show no mercy, repeat, show no mercy."<br />

Fear not, for the Emperor's will is not idle. I, Lord Inquisitor Faeit will gather the forces of mankind and strike at the heart of our enemy.</em><br />
