Warhammer 40,000 The App gets a big update today that has a new short form Datasheet in it for every unit in the game. This is a big deal and something that is exciting to see happen, although it still doesn't replace digital codexes for those of us that like them.

So what do you think of the Warhammer 40,000 The App. Games Workshop is going the extra mile on this one to try and fix the slow rollout of it and its negative perception as it rolled out.

Here is what they are saying today with their latest updates

Warhammer 40,000: The App just keeps getting better. Last week saw the biggest update to the app since its launch, in the form of the Battle Forge beta. This invaluable tool is the ultimate way to craft army lists, and it’s free to try right now.

As part of the beta process, we asked for your feedback. Not only did you deliver, but our app team has already prepared an update that introduces new features and addresses a number of your most common comments. Let’s take a look at what they’ve been working on…

Datasheets

At launch, Battle Forge already let you build an army list for any Warhammer 40,000 faction. What’s more, if you’d purchased a codex for the new edition, you could use the code included to unlock full datasheets for every unit in the relevant faction.

But now, thanks to a huge new update going live today, Warhammer 40,000: The App includes short-form datasheets for every unit in the game – whether you own their codex or not.

Each datasheet shows you the unit’s characteristics and weapons, which makes them a great way of getting a feel for how the unit performs – perfect if you’re thinking of including them in your army or simply wondering how best to obliterate them in your next game.

These short-form datasheets don’t include unit abilities – for those and other army-wide rules, Warlord Traits, Relics, psychic powers, and all the other good stuff from codexes, you’ll want to redeem the codes from your books on My Warhammer. But until then, the app has everything you need to jump into some open play games to test out different units and weapon options to see what works for you.

Updates

Datasheets may be the headline feature, but they’re far from the only update to Warhammer 40,000: The App. Here are just some of the patches, tweaks, and improvements that we’re rolling out today.

iOS:

  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and performance improvements
  • Validation for Dedicated Transports added
  • An issue preventing certain units from being added to a Detachment for Astra Militarum, Death Guard, Thousand Sons, and Adepta Sororitas sub-factions now fixed

Android:

  • An issue causing the app to crash when changing wargear now fixed
  • Improved support for reassigning Relics
  • Loadout crashes now fixed
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and performance improvements
  • Android and iOS:
  • Short-form datasheets for all armies now available
  • An issue preventing some users from accessing Blood Angels content now fixed

But that’s not all. Thanks to the thousands of you that have already submitted your feedback on the Battle Forge beta, we’ve been able to issue fixes for the information pertaining to dozens of units.*

Battle Forge: A User’s Guide

One of the things we’ve been asked a lot in feedback so far is how to get the most out of Battle Forge. We’re only too happy to oblige and have produced this instructional video to get you started with all the nuances of your new army-building tool.

The Future

With this guide and every datasheet in the game available, the 41st Millennium is yours to conquer – and there are many more improvements to come. You’ll see more frequent updates over the coming weeks as our team implements your feedback.

One side effect of these regular updates is that some users may find that their army lists are deleted as the app moves from version to version – so make sure you export your army lists and save them somewhere safe. We realise that this isn’t ideal, but it’s due to Battle Forge’s beta status and our desire to implement your feedback as quickly and as thoroughly as we possibly can. Once Battle Forge graduates from its beta phase, we intend for it to seamlessly preserve your army lists across app versions.
