New Battletomes
The Orruk Warclans and the Stormcast Eternals are the stars of the Dominion boxed set, so it’s only right that they get the first battletomes in the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Let’s take a look at the glorious covers.
As well as the warscrolls for the units in Dominion, these books contain sumptuous new artwork and lore that delves deeper than ever before into each faction. They also expand on the awesome Path to Glory narrative campaign rules from the Warhammer Age of Sigmar Core Book.
Both books include new subfaction rules,* and best of all, every battletome in the new edition contains a code that lets you access its rules in the upcoming Warhammer Age of Sigmar app, which is due to head into beta later this year.
You need as many powerful Heroes as you can get to face Kragnos, Be’lakor, and the Kruleboyz – while she would gladly try, Yndrasta can’t do it on her own. Step forward Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos, leader of the Hammers of Sigmar.
Think that hammer looks impressive? Well, he can also call down thunderbolts from Azyr to obliterate his enemies.
And he’s not alone. Knights-Relictor provide support with prayers to the God-King Sigmar, and they’re handy with a maul on the front line.
They have new infantry to command, of course. Vanquishers are clad in thunderstrike armour and are armed with devastating celestial greatswords that hit exceptionally hard.
Judicators and Vanguard-Raptors are already excellent ranged specialists, but Sigmar heard the prayers of generals who want even more top-quality archers in their ranks and forged ranks of Vigilors to bolster the back line.
Should anything survive a hail of arrows from the Vigilors, the Annihilators will be waiting to finish them off. We’ve already seen some of these incredible warriors in the Dominion boxed set, but this new kit features more options, including the two-handed meteoric grandhammers.
If you absolutely have to turn everything that you’re facing into a fine paste, these hefty weapons are the way to go.
What’s more, with these reinforcements in place you can create an all-Thunderstrike army should you choose. The Annihilators’ fine armour and bludgeoning expertise will prove useful when they face off against the monstrous reinforcements coming to orruk armies.
First up is Swampboss Skumdrekk. He’s a legend among the Kruleboyz not only for his abilities as a mighty warrior but also for the fact that he’s been known to gamble on the outcome of battles.
We’re not sure about you, but if we saw Skumdrekk and his terrifying Sludgeraker Beast, we know who we’d bet on.
The kit alternately makes a Snatchaboss on Sludgeraker Beast if you want to give Skumdrekk a friend to ride into battle with.
Snatchabosses are experts at scooping up prize captives in the heat of battle. Getting dragged into the swamp could really put a dent in your plans for a Dawnbringer Crusade.
That’s not the only giant beastie joining the ranks of the Orruk Warclans – there’s also the Marshcrawla Sloggoth for when your grots need to arrive in style.
If you’re facing one of these creatures, try to avoid getting grabbed by the grots’ long, sharp snatcha gear and watch out for the Sloggoth’s bothersome regenerative powers.
Two of the Kruleboyz units from the Dominion boxed set are also getting separate releases, and their kits include loads of assembly options and accessories. Forming the core of the Kruleboyz battlelines, the Gutrippaz have a new weapon option to go with their vicious stikkas.
These sadistic greenskins are well known to be spiteful and kunnin’, and they can overwhelm unsuspecting enemies through sheer weight of numbers. Alongside them are the Man-skewer Boltboyz with a new Boltboy Boss option.
Phew! So many awesome new kits coming out this year, and that’s on top of the ones we’ve already seen.
Can you keep a secret? We’ve heard whispers that there are even more new miniatures on the way for the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Warclans as well. We’ll let you know more as soon as we hear back from our infiltrator grots.
Next Steps of the New Age
The new Orruk Warclans and Stormcast Eternals battletomes are available to pre-order in August. A third battletome will follow these in October – something a little more Chaos-flavoured, we hear. And this is just the beginning – there’s a lot in store for the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Don’t forget there’s still time to get your hands on one of the few remaining copies of the Dominion boxed set. It’s packed with two armies, awesome Heroes, and a beautiful special version of the Core Book with a full-art cover. It’s the ideal way to jump into the new edition of Warhammer Age of Sigmar.
Make sure you register for our newsletter to stay up to date as we delve deeper into the Stormcast Eternals and Orruk Warclans releases when we get closer to their pre-order dates. Oh, and if you enjoy waging war in the 41st Millennium too, don’t miss next Saturday’s online preview. If you like Orks, you will NOT want to miss it.
