In our latest warband focus, we’re giving you top tips on using these snake-worshipping cultists in Warcry, ahead of them going on pre-order this weekend.
The Lore
The Splintered Fang hail from the choking jungles of Invidia, in the Realm of Life. Tempted with power by mysterious entities known as the Coiling Ones, these warrior-cultists use all manner of vile poisons in battle, as well as slithering swarms of serpents. In the Eightpoints, warbands of the Splintered Fang seek remnants of their long-slain deity, Nagendra, as well as new toxins derived from the Bloodwind Spoil’s deadliest beasts.
Why Play Splintered Fang?
They’re GREAT ALL-ROUNDERS
The Splintered Fang are great jacks of all trades, with good offensive, defensive and mobility-based characteristics making each fighter a very solid combatant. A variety of whips, spears and darts allow them to tackle enemies at pretty much any range, meaning you’ll be able to adapt your strategy to prey on your enemy’s worst weaknesses.
They’re SNEAKY
The Splintered Fang might be all-rounders, but that doesn’t mean they have to play fair. Where you’ll get the edge on your opponents is with an insidious selection of abilities that lets you poison and disable your opponents or blitz through enemies with a sudden burst of power.
They can THROW SNAKES AT PEOPLE
Enough said, really.
Key Fighters
Serpent Callers
Serpent Callers are excellent fighters in Warcry, boasting good speed, solid defence and a great array of attacks. Capable of keeping their distance with thrown darts, or slashing up enemies with their serpentine pals, at least one Serpent Caller is a must-have in any Splintered Fang warband.
Venomblood with Barbed Whip
Venombloods are cracking front-line fighters. They may not be fancy, but at 110 points, they’re a steal, essential to the Splintered Fang for their huge Toughness characteristic of 5. You’ll want to use Venombloods to shield your more precious fighters, using their longer-ranged whip attacks to force your enemies to come to you.
Key Abilities
Fanged Buckler
That’s right – the Splintered Fang are so cunning they can stab people with shields. Only costing a Double, this ability allows you to deal damage out of nowhere with one of your traditionally defensive fighters, like a Venomblood or Clearblood – perfect for finishing off tougher enemies.
Paralysing Venom
The Splintered Fang’s Quad ability is one of the deadliest in the game, ramping up the damage on your critical hits enormously. Remember – the value of an ability is equal to the dice spent to use it, meaning you can get as much as 6 extra damage. Combined with a powerful attack, you could well one-shot smaller fighters! What’s more, this ability has the chance to shut down an enemy fighter’s movement. Nasty!
