Faeit's Tarot: Tyranids, Titans, and Fortifications

This week has been busy with news of Tyranids, Imperial Guard and more. The biggest of course is that the Tyranids have been moved forward for a December release. If you missed anything this week, which was easy to do, here is your chance.

Miss something this week? Or not sure. Faeit's Tarot takes a look at this weeks rumors and sometimes important news, so that we can catch a glimpse of the future and what is going to happen in our hobby. On occasion I will be breaking any weekend developments that were discovered or revealed, so keep a watch out, for on the Faeit's Tarot, you never know what secrets may be revealed.

Latest News

The Inquisition is here. Of course you already know that, and have your pre-orders already. The Inquisition is a mini-codex that can stand alone, but it was meant as an allied force. Of course we were talking about these mini-dexes here on Faeit 212 about a year ago, and its nice to see them finally come around to fruition.

For more information on this release, just follow the link.

Campaigns, Tyranids, Orks, and More....

Earlier this week we had a full rumor set here, that gave us a quick overview of Christmas, Tyranids, Orks, and mentioned a Campaign in June. We have not yet seen these campaigns yet, but rumors of them coming back have been surfacing. These campaigns would be an excellent chance for new units to be introduced, new codex supplements to be added, and much more.

Tyranids
Looks like I was a month out with Nids release date. expected release date 30th Nov -7th Dec.  Second wave releases got removed if you haven't already noticed. Expect second wave release's to start in approx 18-24 month after all codex's and army books are complete.

Christmas Bundles
Normally we have an army strike force box set each year, guess again. that's the new standard battle forces so be interesting to see what pops around at x-mas if anything.

Orks
I know I was told Orks for march this may well not be the case but could be May with the campaign release month being June.

Black Library Books

There's 2 new boos being worked on by BL. hints have been thrown at me of Iron Warriors vs Daemons (definitely Iron Warriors) also another SMB book, still looking into this at the minute. Authors unknown but artwork is rumored to be by the talented Jon Sullivan.

Tyranids Are Coming

Tyranids were once scheduled for December, and for some reason, (listed below), have been confirmed as being moved up to an unprecedented December release. That is a little crazy, but welcome, making December a launch date for an army will be a lot of fun.

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/tyranids-moved-up-to-december.html
current GW managerial chart says that's Smaug wasn't good enough for the studio, so GW have had to go back to the drawing board, moving current releases forward so they don't miss the Christmas release window, Nids moving up to Dec, dwarfs in Jan 2014.

They'll still do the collectors releases for the hobbit, scenes from the film and such, just no new hobbit box.

New Plastic Hive Guard: Not a dual kit with Tyrant guard - the box just contains 3 hive guard

There is another ranged weapon option for Hive Guard that looks like a spike with 3 talons on the end of it.

The pics from this rumor showed up shortly after this was posted. Here are some links where the images are allowed to be showed.

Its right it isnt a dual kit. Also it looks like they are on 60mm bases.

They got the broadside treatment....Its hard to judge as ive just seen the front of the box, but they do look bulkier and more squat than they did.

Back from Warhammer world and got myself last one Hierophant they got
But I wanted Harridan and they told me to wait 3 months and get new one in plastic!

So I think this possible also counting that Harridan now in 40K books (to be released)

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/tyranids-return-of-4th-edition-biomorphs.html
Look for a return of many biomorphs in a big way, led by available model options.
Several plastic models had access to many biomorphs with modeling options in 4th, and those parts are currently cosmetic.

The feeling is that the biomorph options were curtailed much too strongly in the current book and if there is a modeling option for it in a plastic kit, it will have rules in the next codex. I'm looking at you Carnifex (and others)!

via Big Red on Bols Lounge ***
http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/new-tyranid-model-kit-dominar-karkanos.html
"The Dominar embodies Tyranid Hive Mind completely. Within its shadow, lesser creatures bow in servitude, and larger Tyranids find greater access to the warp. It's armored shell protects it from the most powerful weaponry. Any enemy foolish enough to close with it will find no mercy, as it's claws and teeth rip through flesh and armor plating with ease, and within its massive body lie all manner of symbiotic organisms willing to defend their host.

The Karkanos is a lumbering, living fortress. Upon it's back, smaller Tyranids will gather for protection, waiting for the opportune moment to strike at their foes. Bristling with weapons, it can decimate foes as they close, while it's passengers target other enemies.

This multi-part plastic boxed set contains 84 components with which to build one Tyranid Dominar or one Karkanos. This kit contains all the weapon options available to the either creature including cluster spines, heavy venom cannons, brain leech devourers, and acid spray. This kit contains one Large Oval base. It is supplied unpainted and requires assembly - we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints."

"The dominar has a 18" synapse range and Shadow in the Warp range, and increases the psyker level of all Tyranid Psykers within 6" by 1 level. Also has It will Not Die, psychic Monstrosity, IC(c) and can take most Tyranid Biomorphs. It's bigger than the Tyrranofex model, wider with a taller stance, huge head with a massive brain under a wide plate, large mouth like the trygons. It has three rows of vents along the back plates, but the back plates come up behind the head like a turtle, offering protection."

" the Karkanos looks like a crab. It has a wide flat body, the back plate is sunk in and has a ridge around the outer edges. It's front set of arms can hold a few weapon options like venom cannons or devourers or can take claws or talons. Transport capacity is identical to the spore, but it cannot carry MCs. It is a dedicated transport option for the walking troops: warriors, Genestealers, hormigaunts, Termagants. Open top. Has special rules to handle being a MC and transport...not a vehicle. It's probably one of the most expensive dedicated transports in the game. Can be taken in heavy section solo."

Imperial Guard Storm Troopers

I noticed that a lot of sites are not giving the whole story when it comes to this rumor, which is rather disappointing, as I it helps guide our expectations. Not having the entire story, often leada to much of the rage or anger that these stories result in when expectations are set higher than what is really happening.

I am very excited about this box set, as it will allow us to really dig in and customize our models to make Veterans, Storm Troopers, or any variant of Imperial Guardsmen that we want. Plastic is the key, and allows us to customize in ways that we have not been able to for a long time.

Here are the rumors, what was seen behind the veil, and a follow up to explain what was seen.

via StrykerSniper on Warseer ***
http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/storm-trooper-box-set-seen.html
I'm praying for stormtroopers, real ones, as a second troop choice. I did have a tiny look behind the iron curtain of GWs privacy policies, and I was able to see some mockups of the new veterans/stormtrooper boxed set, and it would be an amazing kit to build warbands or stormtrooper squads. Also I saw a model that appeared to be an Inquisitor, and was wearing a long cloak and armor.

I could see GW allowing stormtroopers as a troop choice to induce additional sales of the new kit, which, frankly, floored me. The details were great, with kasrkin style armor, and all sorts of weapons including hellguns, sniper rifles, special weapons, a cool missile launcher, a bunch of sergeant options, bolters, and lots of shotguns that managed to not look like scout shotguns. Also, the bolters did not look like marine shotuns, they were a little more human sized.

Some of the poses were also amazingly dynamic. Some were stoic standing poses, while a couple were very John Woo! There were also a lot of extra bits, poches, packs, grenades, knives, some scanner like equipment, and what appeared to be night vision goggles. If i were a puppy, I would've piddled on the rug, and it was a supreme act of will not to grab the models and run for the door. Apparently, they have also been ready for some time. Please dear God, let these see the light of my hobby store soon and I will have at least 5 boxes! This might even revitalize my Guard army.

Oh, and there were a bunch of heads! respirator heads, heads with berets, bald heads, heads with mohawks and crew cuts. Most were scarred, and one had an eyepatch, while another had a disfigured eye with what looked like claw marks, one head was smoking a stogie, and there were two heads with berets. There was even a knife that looked like a trench knife with raised knuckle dusters. There were scopes, a hand radio, and a bunch of bits for the bases including plants, a snake, and some ammo cans and satchel charges. There was even a hand holding an entrenching tool (shovel to you non-military types). There were a few holstered pistols, and as a delightful surprise, there were also autoguns in addition to lasguns, and there were bits for pistol and close combat weapon troops, although few were chainblades. There was a demo charge, melta bombs, and camo cloaks.

I was very, very impressed. The attention to detail was phenomenal. If you have any questions, ask them quick, before I am "sanctioned" by the inquisition. What is that sound outside the window.......?

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/new-storm-trooper-information-clears-up.html
I have some infos for you about the recent Stormtrooper sighting:

A lot of the bits described (respirators, plants, NVGs, some of the heads, some of the CC weapons, etc) were actually looted from other plastic kits (Command Squad and the like) and won't be on the sprue for the new box. They were used to create some kit-bash conversions to show what can be done with the new set and a bit box.

The described "Inquisitor" with a greatcoat over carapace armor is an option for the Sergeant for people who want to build their miniatures "Arbites-Style". Arbites won't be an option in codex, but you'll still be able to get Veterans in carapace with combat shotguns yelling "I AM THE LAW!".

All in all the new set is supposed to be more like modern "Hollywood"-SpecOps (think The Expendables).

With Nids closing in fast we can still expect IG in Q1 2014.

40k Expansions:
Escalation and Stronghold Assault

These are coming, and in fact were scheduled for a December release. With Tyranids being moved forward, I do not know if these have been bumped back, or if they are staying in the line up next month. It will be an interesting month if these stay put, as that puts a lot of pressure on December.

Both of these supplements are meant for standard games of 40k, Escalation for adding super heavies and gargantuan creatures into your lists, and Stronghold Assault for adding new fortifications.

via Best_Pone over on Warseer ****
http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/40k-expansions-being-confirmed.html
I've been hearing talk of a couple of new expansions for 40K due for release next month:

The first is a fortifications expansion, containing new datasheets and missions for use in regular 40k. I'm also under the understanding that some of these datasheets allow you to take several fortifications as a single choice.

The second expansion brings superheavy vehicles (and gargantuan creatures) to regular 40k. My understanding is that this will be achieved by adding a new super heavy slot to the force org chart, and that you will be limited to the choices detailed within this expansion (I think there's approximately 15 of them). This expansion will also include new missions.

via Endobai on Warseer ****
http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/40k-expansions-being-confirmed.html
I can confirm both expansions.

Hardbacks, c. 100 pages long.
Escalation provides rules for super heavies, gargantuans and D-weapons + 16 unit sheets providing options for all armies.
For example Revenant titan for Eldar and Dark Eldar ( I guess Tantalus was not good enough?).
I'd expect all models released in plastic + 1-2 per army. Thunderhawks are mentioned as one of those vehicles.

Basically mini-Apocalypse with about 50% superheavies which are described.
The fortification supplement gives datasheets for released fortification sets, how to combine some of them and field as larger constructs + various rules for buildings, ruins etc.

Both books include missions and background sections, but fluff is not too important contrary to codex supplements. Treat them as Planetstrike, Spearhead and similar sets of rules we've seen in the past.

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/escalation-and-lords-of-war.html
Escalation gives each army access to at least one Lord of War that are for 'regular' 40k games. There appears to be a difference from Apocalypse and regular 40k games, but the exact rules for them I do not know. Any Lords of War though are expensive in points, and I have been told that the Khorne Lord of Skulls matches the point value found in apocalypse, sitting at 888pts.

There are only certain units that are in escalation, so no others are allowed for regular 40k games. There are only 16 listed in the new book. As to the point level of the games, there is mention of 1500 or 2000pt games. Here are the known models that can be used for regular games in Escalation.

Imperial Guard-Baneblade or Shadowsword
Chaos Space Marines-Khorne Lord of Skulls
Space Marines: Thunderhawk
Tyranids: Harridan
Eldar and Dark Eldar: Revenant Titan
Necrons: Necron Obelisk
Ork: Stompa

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2013/11/stronghold-assault-and-its.html
Stronghold Assault adds a lot of Fortifications into regular games of 40k, and it appears most of the new ones are from the Wall of Martyrs sets. There are 17 new datasheets for fortifications.

Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Line is two sets of trenches for 80pts that only take up one fortifications slot, while a Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Emplacement is a single trench for 40pts. So there are lots of new options, that include multiple fortifications and brings them into a single foc slot.

Here are some of the new fortifications options
Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Emplacement
Wall of Martyrs Imperial Defense Line
Macro Cannon Aquila Strongpoint
Skyshield Landing Pad (can be upgraded to start a flyer on it)
Imperial Strongpoint (two bastions and an aegis defense line)
Imperial Defense Network (defense line, defense emplacement, imperial bunker, and a pair of vengeance weapon batteries) Can add quad-autocannons to the bunker

There are three new Seige War missions also included in the release

No Rumors Beyond this Point
I am rating what I personally think of the rumors (not the source). This is based off of behind the scenes knowledge, what different sources are saying, and general logic and guesswork. It goes like this

5 Stars. If its got a 5 star rating, Although still rumor, its only so because nothing has been officially announced (These are on the level of Natfka either has seen this personally, or the Rumor Information is just undeniable and confirmed )

4 Stars is a very reliable rumor, and comes from someone I generally know to be in a good place, or the rumors match up well. These are not facts!, These are still rumors, and even great sources can have some information wrong on occasion. (think hastings-like, or close to that)

3 Stars, is a decent rumor. Should be looked at with some truth in it. An average rumor (most will fall here). Rumor based off of real information, discussion, or we do not know where it falls. (Like I said, most will fall here, and this is the baseline.)

2 stars. Most likely speculation, but sound OK. Every once in a while these have something (think Natfka doesn't really think this is happening, but ya never know)

1 Star. Way out in left field, and I feel that these are probably just wild speculation or made up. (think whoa, where the hell did this come from, and generally posted up because its fun, or Natfka was bored)
