One Game To Rule Them All: Army Creation

Really couldn't help it this morning with the Lord of the Rings title. Whether it's a quick Skirmish game you want to play, a solid battle, or even a massive epic conflict on the tabletop, the Genesys Project does it, all within a single game.

There are some big advantages to this, the first being continuous play and advancement that the Genesys Project gives. This means that you play a low point skirmish game with individuals or small squads and really get into the details of the individual miniatures (we all have that friend who names all his guardsmen and really personalizes the army). When a squad completes their missions and gains new traits, these carry over into the larger game were epic sized forces can clash.

Many of you that have played or looked at the Open Beta Rules are familiar with this, however... there are some changes and refinements allowing for a wider level of gameplay.

So how does the Genesys Project do this? It does it in two ways

  1. Types of Units are unlocked at different point levels of game play. Bigger games allows more powerful Unit Classes to join the fray!
  2. As the game increases in points, so do squad sizes allowed based on the Discipline of the Class being fielded
Here is how it works. Because each Life Domain (Humanoids, Reptilia, Fey, Biest, or Insekt) all have different types of Unit Classes, each class falls into a specific level.

Example for Humanoids
Standard Troops- Level 1
Elite Forces- Level 2
Leaders and Commanders- Level 3
Unique (King, Champion, Emperor)- Level 4

Discipline is a characteristic generally between 2-5 that is used to determine just squad sizes. (there are other traits that allow changes to this).
So if you have a Discipline 3 for your class and looking below the squad size is determined by Discipline x3 you would be able to field 3-9 models.
