Blood Angels vs Orks will be for the Epic Starter Not 40k

Its rare to get two bits of information from completely different sources saying the exact same thing on the same day. This is what happened today about 6 hours apart, and it defines the Epic Starter starter set.

Regarding the 40k starter set, I don't know. We have seen information from elsewhere that this is what is going on, but Tim has been dead on regarding many of the recent changes we have seen.

Please remember that these are rumors

  1. Watch. If the "not 7th rulebook" turns out to be the ruleset for epic, then let it go on record that I called it lol

    1. Would be fun. Of course the new epic should be played with 28mm miniatures.

    2. So the new epic would be Apocalypse?

    3. Since you can have Titan in normal W40k game, it's normal that they have to invent new rules to play larger battles (and buy more miniatures :p)

  2. I did suggest this very possibility a few threads back.

  4. Perhaps this also affects the projected release schedule? Seems to me BA got slated where they did based on the assumption their book would have to be released around the same time as the "not 7th" boxed set...and now that doesn't seem to be the case.

  5. Wait if it's BA & ORK's then it wont be HH and doubtfull there will be any primarchs etc.

    1. Not necessarily true. Orks have been around well before the Great Crusade (although I'm not certain if they've shown up in the HH Black Library books at all).

Also, the original Epic models of Primarchs were for the Daemon Prince Primarchs that had survived to M41, Mortarion and Angron and such. There is a possibility that they'll only include the M41 Primarchs, although part of me suspects Epic may just throw chronology out the window and allow things like Rogal Dorn fighting Tyranids.

    2. BAs fight them in the opening bit of Fear To Tread, they are referenced all the time, though usually in passing.

    3. Don't the emperors children fight them in fulgrim?

    4. Yep. I think they steal Saul's 'tactic' of "going up the middle". Something like that, I remember actually laughing out loud when it was said!

    5. Actually checked it now because the book was nearby with all the others and I was curious. It's Captain Solomon Demeter of 2nd Company...

'Looks like they're going up the centre!' shouted Caphen.
'Bastards!' yelled Solomon. 'That's my plan! Second, open fire!'

    6. A Battle of Ullanor Epic Set…

Too bad there were no Blood Angels around.

    7. Orks play heavily in HH, in that they are the force at Ullanor which the Emperor and Horus defeat before the Emperor names Horus as Warmaster and retires from the Crusade

  6. I would like to say this gives me a bit of hope for a Wolves update but I already took it out back and slaughtered it with a frost blade. Might have been a bit too soon, but at least I will not be disappointed if it does not happen.

  8. This (apart from the prospero book) is goint to be the best release all year! I really hope this is true. I also hope that as its BA, they arnt covered in their symbol and I can paint them as wolves and 1k sons for my great crusade armys. I so want to play complete battles from BFG, Epic, Heresy 30k, ZMand to kill team all in on session.

    Prospero will burn!

  9. I also hope they put other armies out. Eldar etc. lets not restrict this to PA and green skin.

  10. As someone who is just getting into Epic. I am very excited about seeing what the new stuff will be like! Having to rely on a second hand market can be very tough.

  11. But will we have a new 40k starter set or not?

  12. So where is going the limited edition sanguinary priest?

  13. Because at Epic scale we're going to be bowled over by all that intricate Blood Angel detail on a 7mm miniature!

    1. I hope so! Could be some really nice super minis coming for epic with out.new technology rapidly advancing every day.

    2. Can you imagine trying to paint those details though? I think even an Army Painter "The Psycho" class brush is going to find it a tough job X3

  14. "Starter set". Just like Hulk 3 and Dreadfleet were "starter sets".

  15. Not sure I buy this. Epic just does not make sense as the first specialist game to release. Epic miniatures have been almost exclusively metal. I do not think finecast will hold up very well on that scale where a little bubble means the mini the totally messed. The metal minis used to be like 7 dollars for 4 falcons then it became like 12 then 20. You are not selling very many tiny tanks at 5 dollars a piece.

They can try it as plastic blisters but I am not sure the economy of scale is there. They had the space marine characters at 30 dollars so that is a 50% price rise. The could build whole army plastic sets. You can put a ton of epic minis on the sprues that are the equivalent to a tactical squad but then people get everything you need from 1 40 dollar box and you do not sell enough to bring down the tooling costs.
