Stronghold Assault: Macro-Cannon Aquila Strongpoint

With Stronghold Assault now a few days out, I thought I would take a look at the first of the known fortifications that are being added. At least the first one that caught my eye first. The Macro-Cannon Aquila Strongpoint. The best part is of course that this fortification is part of one of the new holiday bundles, so you can get a deal on it.

The Macro-Cannon Strongpoint can be found in the Apocalypose book, on page 186 if you have it. While the fortification sits at 535pts, it does come with a huge gun, and some upgrades. So its worth taking a look at the rules for Apocalypse and how they may look when Stronghold Assault is released to standard 40k games.

The whole 535pts comes with a single emplaced gun, the Aquila Macro-Cannon. The gun is a 72" Destroyer Weapon with an AP1 primary 2. Of course you can also fire it with a quake shell that gives you a chance to knock air out of the sky with its sonic boom, and does an apocalyptic mega blast.

It is a Large building with a bunker annex (medium building) is also has an armour value of 15 and can be upgraded with 4 emplaced heavy bolters.

We will have to wait and see how the Stronghold Assault rules will work within standard 40k, but this beast looks to be a tough nut to crack when it appears on the tabletop. For so many points though, would it really be worth fielding? Even if it maintains its Massive Fortifications rule (-1 on the damage chart), it can be taken out with bit of close in melta fire or fast moving multi-meltas.

However when facing down a Lord of War, this guy might be one of your best bets.
