GW Hints at 6th Edition and Chaos Marines

Events are lined up for July through September for Games Workshop, and they give us great insight to what we will be seeing over the next few months. You can say GW is giving us a lot of obvious hints at what is coming our way. Check out the details.

Highlights and my comments in italics with the full article below and links

Warhammer 40k Design Studio Open Day July 14th
-A whole day dedicated to 40k
-Displays featuring the evolution of 40k from Rogue Trader up to present day (sounds like a showing off of 6th edition)
-Large games run over the course of the day (good way to show off new rules)
-Aerial Battles with some of the new models ran by game developers (new flyer rules!)
-Artists, scupltors and writers answering questions (deciphering changes to the game no doubt)

Warhammer 40,000 Cataclysm July 15th
-1250pt games (good way to practice the new rule with small games)

The Chaos Terminator Masterclass Sept 1st
-techniques to paint up chaos terminator squads (can we say..... Chaos Marines in August?)

The Warhammer 40,000 Doubles Weekend Sept 8th and 9th

The Warhammer Throne of Skulls on Sept 29th and 30th

A couple of weeks ago we mentioned that tickets were now on sale for the Design Studio Open Day (held here at Warhammer World on July 14th). At the time we weren't able to give you much information about it, but being the curious people that we are, we sent Servitor 13 off on a reconnaissance mission to find out more.

One of the first things to note is that this event is now called the Warhammer 40,000 Design Studio Open Day, as the whole day will be dedicated to the grim darkness of the far future. If you're a fan of guns, tanks and a galaxy where there is only war, then this is definitely the event for you.

The Design Studio will be out in force on the day, including Artists, Sculptors and Writers all more than willing to answer your questions and show off their work. If you've ever wanted to ask about a certain pice of artwork, or the ideas behind the design of your favourite Warhammer 40,000 miniature, then this is the day to do it.

There will also be several huge displays featuring the evolution of Warhammer 40,000, from the days of Rogue Trader right up to the present day and seminars will be run throughout the day where you can learn about the process the designers go through to create the miniatures and the rules that bring them to life.

You can chat to the Hobby Team about their painting and modelling techniques, which they will be demonstrating throughout the day in hobby workshops. You will also have the opportunity to help them build a unique gameboard, which will be used the next day at the Cataclysm event (click here for more details).

There will also be a several large games run over the course of the day, all of which you can take part in (not all at the same time though - you wouldn't have enough arms to move all the models). There will be a vicious contest between the Crimson Fists and the Chaos Space Marines, which you can join throughout the day. There will be a massive aerial battle featuring the Space Marine Stormtalon, the Ork Bommer and the Necron Doom Scythe run by the games developers - do you have what it takes to battle the guys that wrote the rules for them?

This, of course, is just the tip of the iceberg, but sadly Servitor 13 was noticed before he could retrieve any more data for us and had to flee the Studio for fear of reprogramming. We'll infiltrate with something more subtle next time like a Servo Skull or a Ratling.

There are only 450 tickets for this event and they are selling pretty quickly, so if you're thinking of coming along then make sure you order your ticket now.

And in other news:
We thought it would be a great opportunity to talk about some of the other events that will be taking place at Warhammer World over the next few months. All of these tickets are available to order from the events page of the website.

Warhammer 40,000 Cataclysm takes place on the 15th July, the day after the Warhammer 40,000 Design Studio Open Day. Throughout the day you will get to pitch your army and your wits against a variety of opponents. All you need to do is bring along a fully painted 1250-point Warhammer 40,000 army and all the equipment you need to play (dice, rulebook, snacks - the usual stuff). Combined with the Design Studio open day the day before, this will make for a superb weekend of hobby excitement.

In September Warhammer World will play host to three events - the Chaos Terminators Masterclass, the Warhammer 40,000 Doubles Weekend and the Warhammer Throne of Skulls.

The Chaos Terminator Masterclass on September 1st will be run by none other than the Hobby Team legends themselves - Chris Peach, Duncan Rhodes and Steve Bowerman, who will be there to show you the techniques they use to paint a squad of Chaos Space Marine Terminators quickly and effectively.

The Warhammer 40,000 Doubles Weekend on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September is the perfect opportunity to team up with your mate and play some suitably exciting and intense games. These weekends are some of the most popular in the Warhammer World calendar and gamers from all over the world fly over to join in. Order your ticket quickly, because they do sell out very fast.

The Warhammer Throne of Skulls on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th September has been a staple event in the Warhammer World calendar for many years now and as always, the gaming hall will be packed to the rafters with hobbyists on the day. Whether you're a serious wargamer who draws up intricate military strategies or someone who just likes rolling lots of dice, the Warhammer Throne of Skulls is a great way to meet new people, play some games of Warhammer and generally enjoy the aura of hobbyness that permeates the Warhammer World venue. We'e even got our very own Dwarf-themed bar, where you can celebrate your victories (or commiserate your defeats) in style.
