Release the Monsters. Refinement.


List refinement is something that in reality takes quite awhile. Yes, you can do some quick refinements, but in reality, you should be trying many minor adjustments for an extended time period in order to get a list where you want it.

This is just the beginning of my list refinement. So I am barely scratching the surface of the process I go through with my lists. In fact, this is the part of list building that I enjoy the most. Having a decent base, and throwing in tweaks, new units, and new ideas into it.

Jumping right into it, I still have 3 webways going, with two units of grotesques. The first unit will carry Vect, 2 Haemonculi (one of which has a shattershard) and 3 Grotesques. Wound allocation should be a bitch. Not to mention 3 template weapons and a close combat god in the mix. Also remember that the Aberration has 7 attacks on the charge with re-rolls to wound. They are fearless, have furious charge, and feel no pain.

The second grotesque unit is for a flanking webway. Fly flat out, and let someone blow me up for second round webway deployment. For options.

I have increased the scourge numbers simply for reliable kills with their heat lances. Jumping out of a portal and shooting that dreadnaught and failing, simply means 5 scourges with 2 lances were completely a waste. Its happened more than once.

The third webway is for a second round deployment. I am close to dropping the webway portal but for now I am enjoying it. It will be deployed within 12" of the Grotesque #1 webway. I call it the safety valve. Block #1, and the monsters can assault from the safety valve.

The beastmasters. They might get changed to a 5 man scourge squad if I am having troubles deploying them out of portals. I did not realize until yesterday they are coming on a terminator base. I do like the movement of them, and the fact they are fleet with rending, so for now they stay in the list for this weeks games. By next week who knows.

I have also put in a Cronos. Now I am not sure of this one yet. It save me 25pts, and gives me options to get pain tokens on units that can be hard to get....ie talos. Its funny how many people get the hell out of dodge (outside of 12") from my portals when there are talos in reserve. A cronos along with beasts, increases that threat range.

One less 5 man warrior unit in the list, and no Ancient. This goes against my grain to do at this point level, but continuous playing has said to go forward with it. One of those things we shall have to see. I suppose if someone really is concentrating on my troops, then the rest of my army should be able to table him. The 5 man units are still put into reserve.

Reminder, scourges set to deepstrike (or portal use), Beastmasters, 2x5 man warrior units, 2x Talos, and Cronos are put into reserves set for portal deployment.
