While a good player can pick up an army and do well, it takes  actual games to learn the insides and out of an how a list works. Some are very straight forward, and in general spam lists are much easier to play, but tend to fail against skilled opponents with a more efficient list. So here is the inside scoop at how "the 23rd Armored Company" list works to help kill that learning curve. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div>One of the things I like to do is see how the army will looks all together. If the army looks intimidating after set up, it will have that affect on your opponents. <br /> <br /> Where most alpha strike armies fail, is they cant take a hit from another alpha strike army. It's the battle of rock/paper/scissors. Get a good alpha strike list pairing at a tournament, and its a matter of who goes first or luck of the die. This list was put together with the idea of being able to take an alpha strike in chest, absorbing it, and firing a devastating round of shooting in return. Priority targets with these early game is transports, followed by any side armor shots that come up. (setting up along opposite corners helps this), Especially since you have 72"'s to work with. Monsterous creatures are excellent targets as well in non mech lists. Generally what the hydras break, the basilisks will fire upon. Hopefully doing a 1-2 punch, killing the transport and the all of the infantry inside. Dont fire the basiliks though til you are done with most of your long range shooting. After light armor is gone, simply pelt infantry with flak.<br /> <br /> Vendettas should be taking on the gunship role in this list. Moving to a flank predators etc, getting off 3 twin linked lascannons into side armor. Dont forget to scout move this vehicle, to insure you are getting your side armor shots. If facing a heavy alpha strike list, throw the vendettas into reserve and have them outflank. <br /> <br /> Company Command. Two lascannons here, these are simply taking the role of fire supression with a decent chance to damage something. However, company commands should be located somewhere near your veteran squads. If the need comes up, you will have deliver orders to your meltas, with Bring it down to make them twin linked.<br /> <br /> <iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=faei212-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B003CRXFO6&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe>Veteran Squads, these units are your anti-heavy armor, your counter to incoming land raiders. Use the company command within 12" to recieve the order to make these meltas twin linked. These units should be moving forward most of the game. Dont get out of your chimera unless its to recieve an order. <br /> <br /> Infantry Platoon. Simply to deliver heavy fire suppression. When choosing target priorities, disable a vehicle, and move on to the next. After first round or two, these units can be on the move if required by the mission to reach objectives.<br /> <br /> Sentinels. This squadron follows the same role of heavy fire suppression, and follows the chimeras forward across the board. Dont be afraid to jump into assault if the unit is not an assault unit with high strength.<br /> <br /> Chimeras. They should be set up so that they provide cover for Hyrda and Basiliks Batteries. The chimera hull is 5" long 4"wide, so you generally have plenty of room. Chimeras and the Sentinels all come with Hunter Killer missiles. These should help in disabling your opponent right from the get go. Dont forget that while multi-lasers are str6, they should be limited to firing upon infantry as your wounding on a 2+ rather than glancing on a 5+. They are also great at shooting at monsterous creatures. <br /> <br /> That is it. The list is a simpler one to play, and should deliver the first round punch that most people enjoy. Not only that, it is mech heavy with 23 pieces of armor giving you the durablility that you require to keep on firing round after round.

Is it all that? not really. Taking 09 ard boyz with this list, took great generalship, and some luck. We have 15 vehicles on the table. This is pretty average for mechanized lists, and even a little light for IG mechanized lists.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">This list is set up to control the game from the get go. Astropaths provide outflanking possiblities, with the master of the fleet letting your opponent know that if he reserves, there is a good chance he will come in piecemeal. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Inquisitor with mystics. Cut down deep strikers with large direct fire big str10 templates. The heavy firepower comes from a few heavy weapons in the platoon, but most of it comes from the Manticore, two Hyrdas, and two Medusa's. Lots of str10 templates, with the ability to deal with light armor (hyrdas). Then we have the multiple rocket pods, and battle psykers for additional large blasts templates. All in all, it is a list that uses alot of large blasts. The big guns are meant to catch alot of people under them with a possible total of 14 large blasts templates being dropped in a round when you count the 4 demolition charges. The large blasts are going to hurt if they catch you.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">The rest of the units are moving and moving quickly to get into the game. Veteran Melta squads move quickly to reliably take down heavy armor, and plasmas in the command squads to help take out areas of infantry that are out and about. Dont forget that the vets have demolitions, and therefore can scout forward to take down forward sitting land raiders or other heavy armor.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=faei212-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B003P12IZQ&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe>This list is not geared towards a massive alpha strike. It controls the opponent (command, battle psykers, mystics), limits his deployment options, and hits hard with large templates and hydra flak to cripple the opponent. Meanwhile fast moving troops hit vulnerable and stunned areas. A strong list, but more importantly had a good general behind it, some luck on going first and in what armies he faced.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Weakness? Put this up against a strong Marine or IG alpha strike list, have leaf blower lose the die roll to go first, and leaf blower is hanging out to dry. It simply doesnt have the durablity to keep up the firepower under heavy fire. In fact at this point, it might have to reserve itself to survive. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br /> </div>I think one thing this list did to the game though, is put manticores into a lot of armies. Hobby wise. Some gaming areas have them in every IG list I see.<br /> <br /> <strong>Point: </strong>I will say it again. Lots of mech in an IG list that shoots alot, alpha strikes, has hydras in it, manticores, or whatever, does not mean it is a Leaf Blower list. Everything in this list is vital to pulling it off. There will always be elements of leaf blower in lists. Dont take a chimera hull or you might be labeled leaf blower. Really it's quite common to be referred to in this way. We might as well just call all alpha strikers leaf blower, including marines, spacewolves, etc..... Leaf Blower is about control, large templates, and crippling the enemy while other units move in quickly to dissect you.

And the existing ones are either getting entirely new models ( sucks to be those that own Vect ), or being removed utterly. If trends are to kee continuing, we should be seeing 2-3 of our existing ones kept, with maybe 4-5 new ones being added.<br /> <br /> And thank Slaanesh, it seems that Kruellagh is being removed!<br /> Nothing game shattering here, except if we see some high profile SCs being included.

Make an army they like, and then fail when they run across an army type they did not expect or know. Some of the obvious examples are when you play armies like <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-error">necrons</span>. While you cant plan for everything, having a break down on what you will do against different army types is very important for your army composition and how you will deploy and play. In other words, it will effect your game in every imaginable way. So get a clue on what is out there.<br /><br />Its important not only to know some of the basics of each codex army, but as well as types. Close range shooting, assault, drop pod's, alpha strike, horde, heavy armor, and mechanized.<br /><br />Lets start. This is not inclusive, but just a start for you to start thinking about.<br />First off the army specifics you should think about.......<br /><br />Drop Pods. Know how to deal with these. They come in fast, accurate, and can be very damaging. Expect <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">meltas</span> to come out of these. Ideas on handling... Bubble wrap to protect heavy or vulnerable targets with heavy short range or assault nearby so that you can wipe whatever comes out. Also, if you go first, <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">don't</span> forget to pop smoke against the first drop. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Don't</span> forget to blow up the drop pods. These can be annoying drop pod walls, can contest objectives etc. The main idea... Punish those that come out of the pods quickly and efficiently, and protect vulnerable areas during deployment. Your deployment means everything here. Minimize the first strike, and then wreck your opponent. If you can't do well against a first round drop, Choose to go second and hold everything in reserve. 50% of their reserves should be on the field before you appear. Divide and conquer at this point.<br /><br />Deep strike armies...... Like decent of angels. However, some will be able to assault when they appear (vanguard). Set up is very <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">similar</span> to above.<br /><br />Demons. Set up is very <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">similar</span> to above. Kill things as they appear. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Don't</span> get yourself isolated and too spread out. Rapid fire is your friend. One tactic I have seen work well against demons, is to deploy loose and forward covering a good amount of the table, but semi close with a planned tighter drop back location. What this does is make a demon player deploy farther out, allows you to shoot, and keeps them out of assault range for yet another round.<br /><br /><span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Tyranid</span> <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-error">deepstrikers</span>. Be aware that <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_9" class="blsp-spelling-error">mawlocs</span> can hurt tightly formations, so give yourself some room. If they <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_10" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">don't</span> hurt you when they appear, you will devastate them in return. Spore pods, are nice, but <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_11" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">because</span> of lack of models I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_12" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">haven't</span> run across them that much. Be aware they exist, and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_13" class="blsp-spelling-error">zoanthropes</span> or Doom of M<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_14" class="blsp-spelling-error">alanti</span> might catch you unaware.<br /><br />Regardless of army type though. Having an idea of what is out there, and how your army is going to deal with it, is what makes you a tough opponent. I will post more army types that I think about later.</div>

Apparently people considered my list to be a leafblower list. In truth I wish it was, becuase I believe my list lacks that first round leafblower alpha strike that is so powerful in those lists. Its just one of those things I kind of laugh at, and move on. Do I have a lot of firepower? Yes. What I lack is the first round punch that those lists have. I wont go into the details of my lists yet. However what I lack is the manticores and meduseas. I also lack the platoon elements that allow you to maximize your firepower, and lack valkyries. Also no powerfists in my command squads, nor medics. So without two medusas, a manticore, or valkries........ hmmm. No str 10 pie plates in my army......<br /> <div></div><br /> <div>My armies are based on short range firepower, meched up. I have long range elements for support, but by no means am I based on an alpha strike capability. Call it what you will, but my army is not cheap scoring units that allow for a massive alpha strike pie plate hit round one. I will later post what an alpha striking leaf blower lists is all about.</div><div></div><div>I guess this is just becuase people don't yet understand what my list brings to the table. I mean my last opponent was suprised when all his dreadnaughts that got close to me died horribly, As was the tyranid player that got close with all his carnifexes and other monstrous creatures and lost them all in one round. My list is designed to one thing, punish people that get in close with close range firepower.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>I was at one point trying to get more efficient long range alpha strike firepower into my lists. Then I recalled how weak I consider leaf blower lists to be. Good against some armies, but over-all not against anything really meched up, or really resilient. So I gave up my alpha strike potential. If you opponents really analyzed what our games that we had in the pre-lims, youd remember you didnt lose everything round one. It was when you closed in on me, that your armies went bye-bye. </div>
