You can Add a Mega-Gargant to Other Armies!

Its time to wrangle that giant down and convince him to join your army. Here is a preview of taking a Mega Gargant for your army.

Mega-Gargants are found all across the Mortal Realms. Just like other types of gargants, their motivations are highly varied, and they’re commonly seen fighting alongside other armies as mercenaries of a sort. Today, we’re discussing how you can add them to your existing collection, both from a rules standpoint and thematically.

Adding a Mega-Gargant to Your Army List

ANY Warhammer Age of Sigmar army can hire a single Mega-Gargant mercenary. Taking one will prevent you from including other mercenaries or allies, but they’re worth it. If you’re playing a Pitched Battle, an exception can even be made, since their point cost is quite high.*

Considering that all Mega-Gargant variants have the Leader and Behemoth battlefield roles, you’ll need to make sure your overall army’s still valid if you hire one.

Once you’ve determined that you’re able to add a Mega-Gargant, you must choose the appropriate type for your army’s Grand Alliance. Any of them can be added to a Destruction force, but Chaos, Order, and Death each have access to one of the three named mercenaries. Let’s dig in.

One-eyed Grunnock – Chaos

Warstompers care very little about who they fight with or for, so long as they’re promised a good scrap and plenty of food. One such Mega-Gargant, who’s infamous for causing a whirlwind of disruptive violence wherever he goes, has become highly sought after by the rampaging armies dedicated to the Dark Gods. The name One-eyed Grunnock has become a byword for pure destruction.

Grunnock found that by tagging along with the armies of Chaos, he could concentrate on the fight without worrying so much about lining up his next victims. That suits him just fine.

Bundo Whalebiter – Order

Kraken-eaters possess a degree of intelligence not commonly associated with gargants. In the case of Bundo Whalebiter, his grasp of basic strategy has been attributed to a magical artefact.

No matter the provenance of their cleverness, it’s true enough that the armies of Order can convince, cajole, or coerce a Kraken-eater Mega-Gargant like Bundo into fighting on their side. The price of winning them over (and keeping them fed) is well worth the effort.

Big Drogg Fort-kicka – Death

Gatebreakers have found common cause with the forces of Death, not least of which because their undead allies often leave the best spoils to the Mega-Gargants. Big Drogg has marched with these fell armies for so long, he’s surrounded by a palpable miasma of dread and foreboding through his long exposure to the energies of death – or maybe it’s just his awful breath…

If hiring a Mega-Gargant of your own creation is more your thing, no matter which of the three you choose, you can easily reimagine one of their special rules to fit your own concept.

Lookin’ the Part

Adding a Mega-Gargant to your collection offers a unique opportunity to build on the story your army tells on the table. Each of the three variants has been designed to offer clues and cues that tie them into various armies and factions of the Mortal Realms. Gargants festoon their bodies with bits of cloth, trinkets, and trappings taken from their surroundings – giving you ample opportunity to paint them to match your established colour palette and aesthetics.

Due to their hoarding nature and the makeshift origin of their armour and weapons, adding on leftover bits from your own collection is a simple way to show their allegiance. Have a preferred enemy? Paint up bits of armour and trophies to show who they’ve been clobbering.

We can’t wait to see what sort of kitbashes and conversions the hobby community comes up with – we’re sure this will be an extremely popular model for years to come!

Gargants for Everyone

Mega-Gargants offer something new and exciting for everyone from competitive gamers, to display painters, and every type of hobbyist in between. Whether you choose to add just one to your existing force or go for a full-on Sons of Behemat army like the ones showcased in yesterday’s article, you’re going to love the challenge of building and painting Mega-Gargants of your own.

The new battletome and Mega-Gargant kit will be available to pre-order from this Saturday
