Astra Militarum

Vultures and Valkyries

  • Valkyries and Vendettas have an extra point of Structure compared to similar-sized Fighter-class planes, despite being a bit cheaper to add to your squadron list
  • Though designed for troop transport duties and ground assaults, they’re far from defenceless during high-air engagements.
  • The ability to hover, combined with the Jump Troops special rule, allows Valkyries and Vendettas to deposit their deadly cargo accurately and safely

  • The Vulture can perform every single manoeuvre in the game – the first to claim this feat so far!
  • Armed with a heavy bolter by default, Vulture Gunships have some very tasty weapon options. Add the devastating punisher cannon to shred foes with 10 dice at mid-range! Prefer rockets? You can instead opt for not one, but TWO twin rocket pods to make that 12 dice at mid range

TAU

Barracuda AX-5-2, AX-5-3, and AX-5-4

The genius engineers of the T’au Empire cleverly created a set of highly adaptable chassis upon which they can mount a wide array of weapons.

Outsmart and outmanoeuvre your opponent to stay out of their crosshairs and line up the perfect shot. That flying wing design they’re so fond of is great for fast breaks and tight turns to get the drop on clumsier aircraft.

Every aircraft that the T’au Air Caste flies incorporates missiles of some kind
They have unlimited ammo

Barracuda AX-5-2, AX-5-3, and AX-5-4
These planes are ubiquitous in the T’au Air Caste, forming the bulk of the fighting forces. It’s armed with a powerful railgun by default, but can be swapped for a burst cannon or ion cannon to mix things up. Add the optional drones and a seeker missile for extra punch. Combined with the ability to employ the devastating Bank manoeuvre

Tiger Shark AX-1-0-2, AX-1-0-3, and AX-1-0-4
The Tiger Shark is about twice the size of a Barracuda, packing double the weaponry without sacrificing much in the way of speed or agility. Like their smaller cousins, these bomber-class aircraft have moves their Imperial and Ork counterparts can’t compete with, helping them to hold their own against enemy fighters. That extra hull space means it can wield paired versions of the same weapons. But the real standout here is the paired swiftstrike burst cannon, which produces no fewer than nine dice at mid-range. With a Transport of 2, this airplane will win you games while shooting down your foes and achieving scenario objectives.

Tiger Shark AX-1-0
That Transport capacity we just mentioned? Who needs it when you’ve got not one, but two stonking guns. Both the paired heavy rail cannons and paired heavy plasma accelerators will put the fear of the Greater Good in your opponents. The Tiger Shark frame makes these weapons even more dangerous, combining speed (it’s a point faster than the AX-1-0-2) and Ace Manoeuvres 1-4 to help you line up choice targets
