As the military wing of the Ecclesiarchy, the Sisters of Battle are so zealous that they rarely need an excuse to unleash the ‘holy trinity’ of boltgun, flamer and melta against the enemies of the Emperor! If you’re looking to purge heretics on a truly apocalyptic scale, then you’re in the right place, as in today’s Faction Focus, we’re looking at the Battle Sisters of the Adepta Sororitas.

Play Style

The Sisters of Battle are blessed with a number of high-quality, reliable infantry units such as Battle SistersSeraphim and Retributors. Not only are they excellent shots with their weapons, but they wear power armour – this grants them a 6+ Save and, crucially, the chance to shrug off even large blast markers. They also have access to a variety of specialist units such as Arco-flagellantsDeath Cult Assassins and Crusaders that offer some powerful melee options.
Their infantry is supported by a small but highly effective pool of vehicles, from the troop-carrying Sororitas Rhino and Immolator to the rightly feared Exorcist and Penitent Engine. What’s more, Adepta Sororitas Characters are so blessed in the sight of the Emperor that, should they fall in battle, you will be rewarded for their sacrifice courtesy of their Faction ability.

Top Units

Celestine

In the fiery crucible of an Apocalypse battle, you’re going to need all the help you can get. Can you think of any better help than that offered by a Living Saint? We can’t! Yet even though Celestine is capable of dishing out damage in melee and at short range with her Ardent Blade, her greatest asset is her Beacon of Faith ability. By increasing the Save characteristic of nearby units, her presence doubles the survivability of power-armoured Battle Sisters against large blast markers, and hugely augments their odds of survival against small blast markers.

Exorcist

The grand, rather ostentatious appearance of an Exorcist belies the terrible killing power at its disposal. Though it can certainly punish infantry formations with its Exorcist missile launcher, it’s at its best when blasting enemy vehicles apart. Take a pair of Exorcists and fire at the same enemy vehicle to all but guarantee its destruction.

Penitent Engines

These rather disturbing war machines are the final say in melee combat for the Adepta Sororitas. For starters, you can take Penitent Engines in packs of 3 (which you should totally do to take advantage of their 3 Attacks and 6 Wounds), and when you consider the nasty profile of their Penitent buzz-blades and the fact that each model comes packing a pair of heavy flamers, they’re a real force to be reckoned with at close range – especially when the Inferno ability means their ranged attacks hit automatically!

Top Command Assets

The Sisters of Battle also have a number of powerful Command Assets that can give them an edge in battle. Here are two of our top picks…
If your opponent has focused their efforts on eliminating one of your units, play Shield of Faith to thwart their plans. By enabling you to take all of their saving throws on D12s, you’re nullifying every second hit your unit has taken (as any large blast markers they’ve picked up will have made no difference to your saving throws). Of course, if your unit is within range of Celestine’s Beacon of Faith ability, even better!
The Faith and Fury Command Asset has the potential to turn a major attack into a massacre. With all successful hits doubled, the trick is to save it for when you’re attacking with a unit that has wound rolls in its favour – or simply has so many Attacks you can rely on sheer weight of hits. Play Faith and Fury on a unit of three Penitent Engines in close combat (with their 9 Attacks and ability to wound any target on a 7+) and watch the body parts fly. Alternatively, use it just before targeting an enemy vehicle with a Retributor Squad armed four multi-meltas to reduce it to molten slag.
With their flexible variety of well-equipped and hard-hitting units, Adepta Sororitas have the ability to engage and destroy anything arrayed against them.
