The Idoneth Deepkin vs the Nighthaunt..... What it means.

The Idoneth Deepkin have grown on me since their launch, and seeing more on them especially when pitted up against the Nighthaunts and what it might mean and how the see the Mortal Realms.

A couple of days ago, we looked at the latest developments in Forbidden Power with free short fiction and a battleplan, both pitting the Idoneth Deepkin against the Nighthaunt. Today, we’re looking at just what this might mean for the Mortal Realms…
We don’t want to spoil any of the twists and turns from later in the battle for Lake Lethis – you’ll have to read Forbidden Power to see just how the conflict plays out. However, this slice of the wider siege makes for interesting reading.

In Cursed Waterswe got a new perspective on the Idoneth Deepkin. These deep-sea reavers may be counted among the forces of Order, but they’re some of the most sinister members of the Grand Alliance. Seriously, they’re creepy enough to give the Daughters of Khaine a run for their money!
This is the first time we’ve got a look at how a citizen of the Mortal Realms might see the Idoneth Deepkin – and the poor fisherman at the heart of Cursed Waters is almost as terrified of them as he is of the undead! It says something about the Mortal Realms that a citizen of the Realm of Death is more familiar with the Nighthaunt than he is the Idoneth…
“…As its great bulk passed him, Jedd looked across and met the eyes of its master. Pitch black they were, and as cruelly indifferent as those of any boneshark or skullcoiler about to snare its prey. Looking into those empty orbs, Jedd felt a fear no less profound than that which he had felt when the dead had swept across Lake Lethis…”

We’ve also seen just how callously the Idoneth Deepkin regard the common folk of the Mortal Realms, happy to plough straight through the fisherman of Lake Lethis in their charge on the Nighthaunt. The Idoneth are infamous for their coldness, and while they may be allied to Sigmar, it seems unlikely that their goals in aiding the Lethisian Defenders are wholly benevolent. Perhaps they seek the Penumbral Engine of the city’s Stormvault as a tool to conceal their raids. Or perhaps they mean to make some kind of terrible bargain…

I mean, would you trust these guys? Last, but not least, Cursed Waters answers a popular Warhammer Age of Sigmar question – just what do people in the Mortal Realms eat? In Shyish, it seems, fish are on the menu. Even if the lakes are full of ghosts and the fish are, very occasionally, ridden by soul-stealing aelves.
