Kill Team Elites: A Look at the Xenos Armies...... Rules

Here is a preview of the new Kill Team Elites expansion that is coming out to pre-orders this weekend. This goes over all the Xenos factions... a big preview indeed!

Asuryani

Asuryani kill teams will be able to choose from a number of Craftworld Attributes, adding a thematic new ability to your arsenal. If you’re a fan of keeping your opponent(s) at a distance, choosing the Alaitoc attribute will give you a distinct advantage (especially when combined with the Cameleoline Cloak ability of your Rangers).

The Aledari of Iyanden will benefit from a tenacious resolve that will ensure they stay in the fight in all but the most extreme circumstances.

If you’re looking to add some real staying (and hitting) power to your kill team, you’ll be able to add some Wraithguard and Wraithblades – with a Toughness of 6 and 3 Wounds each, they certainly won’t go down easily! Powerful new melee options will also be introduced in the form of two types of Aspect Warriors – Howling Banshees and Striking Scorpions. Their formidable combat prowess will serve as excellent counters to enemy specialists and Commanders.
The Asuryani will be also able lead their kill teams with two new Commanders. First up is a Spiritseer, who will not only add some psychic might to your kill team, but can bolster nearby Wraithguard or Wraithblades with the Spirit Mark aura ability.

Alaitoc kill teams can instead field the legendary Ranger, Illic Nightspear. In addition to his utterly devastating rifle, Voidbringer, Nightspear will also be able to swiftly relocate by Advancing, then utilise his unique Tactic to fire at full effectiveness.

Illic Nightspear is automatically a Level 3 specialist from the new Legendary Hunter specialism, which offers him a number of powerful new abilities.

Drukhari

As with their Craftworld cousins, the Drukhari can utilise a selection of obsessions from one of their Kabals, Wych Cults or Haemonculus Covens (though only models with matching keywords will gain the ability). For example, fans of powerful short-ranged weapons such as blasters, blast pistols and shredders may want to choose the Kabal of the Obsidian Rose to ensure maximum accuracy.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for an armour-busting advantage, the Coven of Twelve will give you the (cutting) edge you need.

The introduction of the Haemonculus Covens sees the arrival of both Wracks and Grotesques to the Drukhari kill team rosters, each offering 5+ invulnerable saves and a minimum of 3 Attacks apiece. They are reinforced by the armour-cleaving Incubii and Mandrakes. The shadowy allies of the Drukhari in particular have been highly anticipated additions to the game, and their Shrouded from Sight ability will give them a huge advantage in Kill Team.

Harlequins

Harlequins kill teams will be able to specialise in a number of Masque Forms. If you want to make the most of your kill team’s (frankly horrific) melee skills, allegiance to the Frozen Stars will offer a handy extra Attack in the first round of combat.

If you favour speed and manoeuvrability (skills for which the Harlequins have some renown, it’s fair to say), try the Soaring Spite to make the most of your firepower while on the move.

Necrons

The Dynastic codes of the Necrons offer you a selection of powerful abilities to take advantage of. If you prefer to slay (or flay) your prey in combat, the Novokh code will ensure a reliable number of hits on entering combat.

You can instead mitigate the limited speed of your Necrons via the Translocation Beams of the Nephrekh Dynasty, offering you total freedom of movement when you Advance.

Your Necron kill teams will soon be able to include the mighty Lychguard and Triarch Praetorians. With their ability to carry dispersion shields for a 4+ invulnerable save, Lychguard can take on even the most formidable adversaries or simply split them asunder with murderous blows from their warscythes.

Triarch Praetorians offer a powerful combination of deadly weaponry at close range and melee, and unrivalled manoeuvrability by virtue of their ability to fly. There’s just no escaping these guys!
Orks

Clan Kulturs bring the influences of the great clans to your Orks kill teams. As one would expect, allegiance to the most aggressive of the clans offers the potential for bonus attacks in combat.

Meanwhile, the Bad Moons kultur will help your kill team to be shootier than all the others.

Orks will have access to three new datasheets in the form of the Nob, Meganob and Flash Git. Not only are these Orks more heavily armoured than the other greenskins (especially in the case of the 2+ Save characteristic of the Meganobs), but you’ll be able to field a wide selection of brutal weaponry such as power klaws and kombi-weapons – and in the case of the Flash Gitz, snazzguns.

Boss Snikrot also makes his debut in Kill Team as a unique Commander. As with Illic Nightspear, Snikrot is a Level 3 Legendary Hunter specialist, but he can also give nearby Kommandos a handy boost with his bespoke Aura Tactic.

T’au Empire

Kill teams hailing from the T’au Empire will be able to choose a Sept Tenet to represent their favoured method of war. For example, the accuracy of Overwatch fire from the T’au Sept is set to be nothing short of terrifying.

If devastating close-range firepower (such as that offered by the pulse blasters of Fire Warrior Breachers) is more your thing, you may find the Farsight Enclaves more to your choosing.

Kill Team: Elites sees the very best of the Fire caste unleashed in all their glory with the arrival of the XV8 Crisis Battlesuit. Not only does their ability to fly make even one such warrior a mobile threat, but the sheer diversity of ranged weaponry and support systems (such as the plasma rifle and target lock) makes each one an intimidating prospect to face. Kroot Carnivores also offer T’au kill teams an efficient melee option to help keep the pressure off your more vulnerable, ranged fighters.

If you really want to show the superiority of the Greater Good, you will be able to field a Commander in XV85 Enforcer Battlesuit, combining incredibly flexible equipment and weapons options with the ability to fly, not to mention one of the most powerful profiles in the game!

The legendary Pathfinder known as Darkstrider will also be able to lead your T’au Empire forces. He brings with him two unique Aura Tactics that enable you to play some suitably sneaky tricks on your opponent, such as with Structural Analyser.

Tyranids

Hive Fleets are renowned for the different ways they have adapted, and soon, your kill teams will reap the reward! The Hyper-aggression of Hive Fleet Behemoth offers a simple but incredibly effective ability for your kill team to stay on the front foot (or claw).

If you favour a more subtle approach, then Hive Fleet Jormungandr will ensure your critters remain intact until the moment to strike is at hand (or claw).

Speaking of your critters, you will be able to include Tyrant Guard – perfect options from protecting your Commander of choice – Hive Guard (along with their devastating impaler cannons, below) and super-swift Raveners among their number if you prefer to be more hands-(or claws-)on with your enemies as quickly as possible.

If you like Lictors, then you’ll love the introducing Deathleaper to your games of Kill Team. Having any problems dealing with enemy Commanders? Don’t worry – Deathleaper will see you right (and them very dead)!

Genestealer Cults

Cult Creeds will give your alien hybrids a handy boost in a number of different areas. The Twisted Helix, for example, is a great option for melee-focussed kill teams.

The Bladed of Cog Cult Creed offers a different pair of advantages, including a useful invulnerable save.

The huge wave of Genestealer Cultists characters that surfaced earlier this year will offer an enormous variety when it comes to your choice of Commanders, including the Sanctus, gunslinging Kelemorph, Nexos, Biophagus, Locus and Clamavus. Each of these new Commanders comes with their own Tactic (such as the Genomic Enhancement of the Biophagus, below) or Aura Tactic to use, further adding to their impact on your kill team.

Whatever species of xenos you favour, you’re definitely in for a treat! Check back with us tomorrow, where we’ll be revealing some more on what Elites has to offer for the Chaos-aligned kill teams as well as some information on the new Reserves rules for the game.
