Today, we’re continuing this week’s coverage of Warhammer 40,000: Urban Conquest with an unboxing of the set itself:
The box’s cover art tells you everything you need to know about what urban combat in the 41st Millennium is like – suffice it to say, it’s claustrophobic, deadly and epic! The expression on the Ultramarines Sergeant’s face shows just how desperate the situation is…
Do you like the idea of erecting a network of force fields to form a defensive perimeter? How about fighting to retrieve a legendary relic of the Adeptus Astartes? Well, Urban Conquest includes some new and highly thematic Sector Imperialis scatter terrain in the form of an objectives set (a variation of the Sector Imperialis Objectives set that is currently available) and a fallen statues set. If you’re looking to give your battlefield plenty of character, all the while offering some cover to dart between, these sets will see you right.
Warhammer 40,000: Urban Conquest includes a Cityscape campaign wall map, but rather than featuring a fully detailed, predetermined layout, it’s formed of 15 card slots into which you can place any of the set’s 57 Location cards to create your very own Cityscape!

As well as being able to populate the Cityscape map with Location cards to customise your campaign setting, there are also decks of Strategic Goals, Random Events and Strategic Resource Cards that add a huge variety of different objectives, themes and challenges to your campaigns. The myriad combinations of these cards make for exceptional replayability too. These cards slot into the relevant places on the right half of the campaign map for easy reference. Again, we’ll be explaining more later in the week, so keep an eye out…
Last but by no means least is the Urban Conquest book. This 97-page softback is your ultimate companion to taking part in your own campaign of, well… urban conquest! After a detailed overview of some of the 41st Millennium’s most infamous urban war zones (including, most recently, Vigilus), you are guided through how to play a Streets of Death campaign using the set’s Cityscape map and various card decks. The latter half of the book introduces loads of new rules content for your campaign, including Stratagems, Tactical Objectives, Urban Battlezones as well as a host of open, narrative and matched play missions and even a handful of bespoke missions that can be played on certain special map locations.
Suffice it to say that if you’re a fan of immersing yourself into the setting of a hard-fought campaign, where control of every street corner and municipal building is worth dying for, then Urban Conquest will be your gaming nirvana!
