Enjoy playing Chaos warbands in Warhammer Underworlds but can’t pick your favourite? The Godsworn Hunt are for you! With magical clout akin to the Eyes of the Nine, numbers to beat Garrek’s Reavers and offensive bite to make even Magore’s Fiends think twice, this highly flexible set of fighters are rewarding, powerful and fun.
With the Godsworn Hunt on pre-order this weekend, today we’re delving into the fighters and cards that make this warband tick…
The leader of the Godsworn Hunt is Theddra Skull-scryer – a powerful wizard who’s best kept at the back of the board casting spells and making the occasional opportunistic attack.
Like all of the Godsworn Hunt, Theddra Inspires when an upgrade is equipped. This makes the Godsworn Hunt a little tricky to use before you’ve scored any glory, but allows them to snowball quickly as more fighters grab upgrades, thus allowing you to do more damage and score more glory!
Grundann Blood-Eye is the heavy hitter of the Godsworn Hunt. Like Theddra, he’s not particularly durable, but he’s fast enough to hang back before making a brutal strike on the enemy. He’s also a great fighter for grabbing that crucial early glory.
Jagathra is a really interesting fighter that can make one nifty shot with her javelin, after which she must resort to melee combat. However, the range and power of this attack are great for running down a retreating foe or grabbing a crucial kill.
Shond is a brawler, like Grundann, and is particularly useful when Inspired thanks to gaining Cleave. As such, you’ll want to hang back with Shond before upgrading (and thus Inspiring!) him in time for the second or third action phase.
Ollo is a decent ranged fighter, capable of damaging opponents at a distance. While his attacks might not be very powerful, he has a huge threat range, thanks to his high Move characteristic, making him great for finishing off weakened fighters.
Finally, we’ve got Grawl – the faithful companion/vicious hunting beast of the group. As well as being proof that the Chaos Gods like dogs as much as we do, Grawl is a fast fighter who you’ll largely use to block enemies or help out allies rather than attacking directly.
The Godsworn Hunt are one of Warhammer Underworlds’ most rewarding warbands, offering loads of viable playstyles and decks thanks to their flexible Inspire condition and high number of fighters. With excellent speed and offensive output to offset their fragility, they’re best used for hybrid decks, with your ranged attackers allowing you to take objectives while also dealing damage.
One of the secret weapons in Godsworn Hunt decks is Oath objectives – high-scoring variations on standard objectives, with a crucial twist. By revealing that you have an Oath at the start of the action phase, you’ll get extra glory – but now, the enemy will know what you’re trying to accomplish! These cards are great for messing with your opponent’s head – revealing Oath of Murder, for example, is a great way to discourage them from getting stuck in with their leader.
Every Godsworn Hunt deck will want to make the most of upgrades – using them correctly is key to how your warband plays. Rather than stacking upgrades on a single fighter, you’ll want to spread them around, as well as grabbing ploys that help you use them. Seized Trophy is a great way to get the ball rolling and Inspire a fighter early on, Brutal Sacrifice lets you grab upgrades for “free” and Path to Glory allows an already upgraded fighter to become very powerful indeed…
You’ll be able to add the Godsworn Hunt to your Warhammer Underworlds collection very soon.
