Kill Team Preview: Starn's Disciples

Today another Kill Team preview is up... Starn's Disciples. This gives us a couple more Genestealer Cult models that will hopefully lead into our Genestealer Cult Codex in the following weeks to come. So take a look at  the latest.

With Kill Team: Arena and two new Starter Sets on the near horizon – in fact, they’re all up for pre-order this weekend – we’re continuing our coverage of all the shiny new goodies for the game. Today, it’s the turn of the deadly close-range killers who form the Genestealer Cults kill team, Starn’s Disciples:
Ghyrson Starn is a hero of the xenos-tainted cultists who infest the war-torn world of Vigilus, a symbol of resistance against the tyrannical Imperium. He leads the kill team known as Starn’s Disciples, each of whom would gladly sacrifice their life for the gunslinging hero they idolise. This band of insurgents has murdered planetary governors, sabotaged Imperial monuments and stolen munitions and weapons from Astra Militarum outposts, building their infamous legend with each fresh outrage.
Starn’s Disciples consist of the infamous outlaw, Ghyrson Starn, and his inner circle of loyal followers – three Acolyte Hybrids and two Hybrid Metamorphs. All are capable close-combat fighters and armed with a murderous array of weaponry. Provided that you can keep them out of harm’s way until you close on your prey, they’re capable of ripping apart anything your opponent can field against you.
Let’s take a look at the Genestealer Cultists that make up Starn’s Disciples as featured in the set in a bit more detail:
A legend of his own making, Ghyrson Starn is a Kelermorph – a renowned pistolier who inspires his fellow cultists with each dead-eye burst from his trusty liberator autostubs (of which he has three!):
Fortune favours the bold (and the bald, in the case of the Genestealer Cults!), and if you can get Starn in amongst the enemy, he can cause absolute carnage with his Blaze of Glory Tactic:
Considering the accuracy of a Kelemorph and their ability to ignore the hit penalties for their targets being obscured at Level 2 (for a mere 30 points), and scoring hits when firing Overwatch on a 4+ at Level 3 (for only 15 points more), Ghyrson Starn or your Kelermorph of choice will dominate the battlefield with their gunslinging skills:
The set also includes Warhammer 40,000 rules for a Kelermorph – a brand-new character for the Genestealer Cults faction – so keep your eyes out for a preview of this awesome gunfighter coming this week:
The Acolyte who serves as the kill team’s Leader is Mordecai Kreel, who favours wielding a lash whip and bone sword. With his high Strength, 3 Attacks and ability to tear through light armour with ease, use him to pick off your enemy’s weakest fighters in combat. That way you can dish out the pain while keeping your valuable Leader away from the most dangerous foes.
The final word in the elimination of multi-wound targets, Vyrion Lhaska’s rock drill can inflict up to five mortal wounds in addition to any damage dealt, and can carve through heavy armour with ease. And he gains a bonus Attack for being a Combat specialist!
As a Zealot specialist, this deadly Hybrid Metamorph dishes out a terrifying 4 Attacks at Strength 5 on the charge – that and the cult icon he bears enables nearby allies nearby to re-roll hit rolls of 1. Suffice it to say, Skir Desh should be spearheading your kill team’s charge!
As a Veteran specialist, Groust Gorl is unlikely to fail any Nerve tests – a handy trait to have considering he’s toting a heavy rock saw! Like Vyrion Lhaska, this guy can split any target in half given the opportunity, so get him into combat as swiftly as possible.
Armed with a hand flamer and Metamorph talon (which enables him to hit on a 2+ in close combat), Kol Valka is an intimidating prospect to face, despite not being a dedicated Specialist. Use the threat he presents to keep your opponent’s kill team at a safe distance until you can engage them in melee.
The Starn’s Disciples set includes loads of new Tactics that really emphasise the insidious ways in which the Genestealer Cults fight. For starters, there are always more cultists lying in wait…

The Cult Innumerable

Does your opponent think you foolishly abandoned that objective marker in your deployment zone? Perhaps you’re running short on numbers after suffering a few early casualties? This sneaky Tactic will level the playing field:

Secret Lair

As with Theta-7 Acquisitus, the set also features some Ryza-pattern scenery pre-coloured in khaki plastic, enabling your cultists to evade the prying eyes of your enemy until the time is right to attack. There’s even a Tactic that enables your cultists to secretly redeploy within the ruins at great speed.
You can, of course, choose to assemble the Starn’s Disciples set as your own Genestealer Cults kill team, with different choices of Commander, specialists and weapon combinations rather than the predetermined kill team. In any case, the set will be available to pre-order from this Saturday
