Next week, the Adeptus Custodes will arrive in the 41st Millennium in force with a raft of new pre-orders. There are new miniatures and a lavish Limited Edition codex for you to get your hands on, as well as, for the first time, a range of Imperial heroes from the Triumvirate boxed sets available separately.
Firstly, the new Adeptus Custodes models. We previewed Trajann Valoris last year on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page, but he’s well worth a closer look. Styled after the rest of the Custodian Guard, he’ll look right at home leading your collection, while details like his magnificent cloak and ornate axe mark him clearly as a leader.
Meanwhile, the Allarus Custodians combine the sleek silhouette of the Custodian Guard with the more brutal feel of Cataphractii Terminator armour; their appearance complimenting their baleful role on the battlefield as superb Character assassins. These guys are unbelievably durable and can teleport into the thick of fighting before cutting their foes down with a flurry of strikes. You’ll also be able to use the Allarus Custodians kit to build a Shield Captain to lead your forces, or a Vexillus Praetor, a flag-wielding commander that offers powerful bonuses to nearby units.
Of course, to use these units in the game, you’ll need the new codex. Codex: Adeptus Custodes isn’t just a collection of units, it’s also jam-packed with exciting new lore, looking at the secret history of the Imperium’s most elite martial brotherhood. Inside, you’ll find out things about the Custodes you’ve never seen before, from unique shield companies (such as the Shadowkeepers, who guard the Black Cells), to just why, after so long, the Adeptus Custodes are joining the battle for the fate of the 41st Millennium in full.
Of course, bringing a new army into Warhammer 40,000 is no small occurrence, and to help celebrate the release of the Adeptus Custodes, you’ll be able to commemorate your love for the Golden Legion with the magnificent Limited Edition codex. Within the eagle-marked slipcase, you’ll find two volumes. The first contains the codex, bound in dark red cloth with gilt-edged pages, while the second containing an exclusive double-sided poster, datasheet cards with the rules for your units, and six objective markers styled after the shoulder pads of the Golden Legion. With only 900 copies available, you’ll want to get yours right away before they run out…
Whichever edition of the codex you’re looking to pick up, you’ll want to grab some datacards while you’re at it. Containing your Stratagems and Tactical Objectives, these cards make keeping track of your games simple, giving you more time to focus on commanding and less flicking between the pages of your book.
The Adeptus Custodes are best known as bodyguards, and next week, you’ll also be able to pre-order several iconic Imperial characters separately to accompany your army into battle. Perhaps you’re looking to add Roboute Guilliman to your army to represent the very best of the Imperium, or maybe you’ve been looking for an excuse to pick up Celestine, another avatar of the Emperor’s might. Meanwhile, Inquisitor Greyfax is a great addition to any Imperial army, while Chaos players, in particular, will relish the opportunity to pick up Cypher free of the Corpse Emperor’s lapdogs.
All of these new models will be available to pre-order next week, on the 20th of January, while we’ll be providing in-depth previews of the new Codex: Adeptus Custodes all week, starting tomorrow. Let us know what you’re most excited about on the Warhammer 40,000 Facebook page.
