Leaked Images: Eldar Releases and Pricing.

The images are out, and its going to be a big Eldar Week. That Codex is expensive, and some people are claiming it to be 200pgs, 160pts, a replacement codex, and not a replacement codex. Which is it? lol. We should have the inside scoop here shortly in the next so many hours.

  1. New fine cast? That would be a first for a while!

    1. It's probably the old finecast rider on a new plastic bike

      Delete
    2. Incorrect. The leaked image clearly says plastic clampack.

      Delete
    3. Highlighted in red it says shining spears and autarch sky runner is finecast.

      Delete
    4. Actually if you look at the red (web exclusive) items, there are 2 Finecast boxes (most likely repackages)

      Delete
    5. Items highlighted in red are web exclusives and stores are discouraged from ordering them for customers.

They are merely run downs of existing stock.

      Delete
    6. Finecast is dead....long live the finecast!! :D

      Delete
    7. Then why would the Autarch Skyrunner be finecast and not plastic?

      Delete
    8. ^ it could be both (mentioned as such on another recent eldar post) and it makes sense to do so as well. reduce current FC, and re-release new in plastic. clams and multi's ;)

      Delete
    9. More than likely “Skyrunner” is simply the new name for a particular Jetbike version.

      Delete
    10. The Skyrunners are probably just a box containing regular Jet Bikes and the finecas upgrade kit.

    11. Stores are not discouraged from doing direct orders only. Stop spreading misinformation. We are in fact encouraged to do direct orders if customers cannot find products, it gives us the opprotunity to register new customers and get them what they want.

      Delete
    12. @Father Gabe - Not misinformation. Perhaps I should have worded that better. Of course ordering for a customer on a case by case basis is fine and builds rapport with your customer base. What I meant was that stores are discouraged from ordering A BUNCH of direct order items for their shelves.

GW Trade Sales would rather shops focus their attention (and capital) on higher turn over standard items so that retailers can turn a profit, stay in business, grow their business and continue to work with and order from GW.

Otherwise, if GW wanted shops to do more Direct Orders the margins would be the same as regular product. The fact that it's not is discouragement, whether that's stated or not.

  2. At this point I'm wondering if the wildriders are even "new" models or they're just repacking some of the old crappy models in a box and calling them new.

    1. They did that for a short time when they released the previous book. I doubt they'll do it again, especially after Harlequins got their own new bikes.
The plastic farseer skyrunner is most certainly new, so releasing old bikes alongside a new bike would just be silly..

      Delete
    2. Bet the sky runner is a chariot and not a bike

      Delete
    3. If that were the case, they wouldn't be re-releasing a finecast webstore exclusive Autarch Skyrunner, which is most likely the Autarch jetbike rider, with new bike (or intended to be used with the new Farseer/Windrider kits).
"Skyrunner" also fits the current Eldar bike naming convention. (e.g. Harlequin Skyweaver)

      Delete
    4. Looking at how they are releasing a new dex & a plastic autarch. I would expect more than just the finecast to be old stuff repacked. Usually they dont releas more than 2-3 new items a week. Cant rember them ever releasing 4 Kits in 1 week.

      Delete
    5. There's already a new massive book (same price as Space Marine Codex), and 3 new kits in one week. GW haven't released any new finecast 40k kits for a long time, and I certainly don't think they would start now, especially if those kits are just going straight to the webstore.

Odds of the Shining spears and Autarch skyrunner being anything more than repackaged finecast versions of the metal models with the new plastic bikes are slim to none.

  3. That was pretty quick getting a new Eldar codex out, would have thought some other armies would have been more of a priority.

    1. Well, Eldar had a lot of things which needed dealing with. For one, Harlequins needed to be removed from the book. GW's also been removing the ability of unlocking changes in the Force Organization Chart, so being able to take Wraithguard as Troops also needed to be removed. And if they made a new plastic Avatar then, like the Bloodthirster, it probably has a couple different versions with different stats, which would also need updating in the codex. Not to mention the new style detachments which could help create more personalized Eldar Craftworld armies. So plenty of reasons for why they'd update it as compared to others.

      Delete
    2. Poor Sisters. Everyone else has been updated to 6th/7th and received new plastic kits.

I imagine they decided on Eldar because they either really wanted to get some new plastics out (especially to replace those ancient jetbikes) and figured the would release a new book alongside them, or they want to update one of the more popular armies. If I remember correctly, Eldar were only the 5th codex release in 6th edition. There have been more than 15 codex releases since then.

      Delete
    3. Basically Eldar are far less work than new Sisters. Codex, a few new kits, one week(?), done.

      Delete
    4. I actually love my sisters right now. Hope thry font change what they are too much

      Delete
    5. Sisters just need a big release with a whole new model range, a handful of new units, and a physical codex book (and not just in White Dwarf). The last physical Sisters codex was published in 2004 - more than 10 years ago.

      Delete
    6. I love my sisters but some varity. Plastic engines. And make the cannoness worth her points and I'll be happy. Oh and ANYTHING with sky fire.

      Delete
    7. As Starchild said, sisters need a full rework, most likely a few weeks worth of stuff.
I think GW is throwing a few of these one week releases in between the bigger releases just to flesh things out a bit, and give themselves time for the next big thing.

      Delete
    8. when will sisters get an update release though. once they half do the updates existing then they rinse repeat and there is never a sister release because X needs it more or Sisters would be too big a release. well maybe release them over the last 20+ years then they wouldn't have that issue. 2. There may still be another week.... There's been talk of a new avatar.

    3. New Avatar was debunked. It was just another redirect from the Forgeworld migration.

But yeah, should be this one week of Eldar. The real clue will come in the WD hints of what's coming the next week.

My bet is Dark Angels, but the rumor is also that this new Eldar codex is as big as the current Space Marine one.. like 168 pages. I'd be amazed if they didn't get a second week... but not surprised.

      Delete
    4. Amazed but not surprised? Is that possible? 8-D

      Delete
    5. He is voicing the possibility, so how could he be surprised by it? It's not going to take him off-guard, but he things it'd be strange. If someone tells me there's an awesome movie and i go see it, I might be amazed at how good it is, but I wouldn't be surprised. I was told already.

      Delete
    6. ^ personal taste is subjective. the "movie" (or thing) could be awesome in person A's opinion, but in person B's it might be 50-50 ok and in person C's complete garbage. so you might not be surprised but at the same time you might not be amazed either.

      Delete
    7. How was it debunked?
URLs for FW migration have a big F W in them?!

      Delete
    8. amazed- since even the shortest/smallest release is often longer than a week.

not surprised- if they don't and break the pattern we have accustomed ourselves with. but if they only have x2 kits one of which is a clam pack (as well as being FC as well as a plastic "clone/mirror" release) then 1-2 weeks max seems about right for Eldar.

have i got it about right?

      Delete
    9. @Unahim: I love you.
@seb12: Compare the URL that Forgeworld has of their Avatar and Avatar with Spear, and then go use that same structure to test for redirect. You'll see that both redirect, which hints that both are merely migrations of Forgeworld.

    10. I doubt Eldar get a second week.
If a new avatar was on it's way I would have guessed it would be out before the codex.

Although I am amazed that the End Times Khain book didn't come with a new avatar model for both systems... such a wasted opportunity...

  5. Just having started eldar a few weeks ago, im flad I didnt buy any of those trashy jetbikes, and im sad I bought some of the trashy fire dragons. Even if they dont get updates on all the aspect warriors a few updates will be nice.

    ReplyDelete
  6. So unless this "new codex Eldar" is going to be nothing short of AMAZING, I wont be buying it.

Unless GW surprises us all (which I find hard to believe) it'll just be a formations book for 7+ craftworlds and lots of fluff and scenarios thrown in to fill the page count.

  7. If the Harley vehicle rules are any indication, this books is really going to make vehicles fragile. God I hope they just tone down the shield and dont way over do it on this one, I would like to at least want to play my Eldar.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why would you use the Harleys as an indication? Their vehicles are Dark Eldar style, open topped and fragile to allow for an assault based approach. They indicate nothing for Craftworld Eldar at all.

      Delete
    2. He means because holofields are weaker in the harlequin codex than on the current eldar vehicles, and the bikers have the same special rules as the current windriders but a weaker save.

We're assuming that holofields and the windriders will move to what's in the Harlequin book, so that there aren't any discrepancies between the books' special rules.
