What's On Your Table: Thunder Legion

Whats On Your Table is about inspiration, connecting ourselves to the rest of the community, and the chance to show off some of the awesome projects that we would otherwise not ever get a chance to see. This one is definitely inspiring, with a full write up and models to see.

For this project, I have been attempting to imagine the history, artwork, and of course models for a Great Crusade Era army based on one of the Lost Legions.
The II Legion, known as the ‘Thunder Legion’ were imagined as a Japanese themed foil to the Thousand Sons. The character and abilities of the Legion are based off of Tarot Major-Arcana theory of the Primarchs. As this theory goes, each of the Primarchs are accounted for in Tarot lore, including the two lost Primarchs. For this project, I ascribed the II Legion Primarch, who I named Icarion, to the High Priestess of Tarot Lore.
Icarion and many in his legion are gifted psykers. The legion specializes in divination and precognitive psychic powers, and the ability to through focus, shut down enemy psykers. Icarion (and to a lesser extent is sons) act as a foil to Magnus and the Thousand sons. (much like Dorn has Perturabo for siegecraft and Russ has Angron for savagry). Magnus and Icarion are two sides of the same coin.
Basically, Magnus is the undisputed might of the emperors psychic ability unchained by fear of the true horror of the primordial Annihilator, and without a understanding of the threat it truly poses.
I think Icarion could be the other side of Magnus' coin. The emperors psychic capacity to bring order to chaos, his nature as anathema to the warp. Icarion is by the nature of his aspect, a calming influence in the turbulence of the warp. He is a psychic/physical avatar of the Emperors understanding of the warp. The true warp, that Magnus can't see.
The Emperor then would embody both aspects of Icarion and Magnus. The recognition of the warp as the great enemy (Icarion) but also a desire to not simply subdue the warp but to yoke its power to his control (Magnus). Both of these aspects are present in the creation if the primarchs, a desire to fight chaos by bargaining with chaos.
This then I think could loop back to the tarot interpretation of Magnus and Icarion. Magnus represents desire for ultimate control of the warp and do can't see it's true threat, while Icarion represents understanding of the warp, and so seeks to subdue it instead of harnessing it.

In Addition to Writing fluff and creating models and artwork for the Legion, I have also commissioned professional Artists to help me imagine Characters from the Legion, such as the Beautiful Painting of the II Primarch done by Ibrahem Swaid.
Please let me know what you think, and if you would be interested in using this army in a What's on your table segment. I would really Love for more people in the community to get a chance to see that you can create DIY legions, and that there is endless room for creativity in this hobby.
Thanks,Nicolas Fayette
