A First Look: Storm of Vengeance Video Game

I recently got the beta version of Storm of Vengeance off of Steam, and spent some time checking the game out. The game falls outside of my normal game type, even for video games, so I was intrigued to check it out.

The game is a lane strategy game, which to be honest is not my cup of tea when it comes to video games. I am a Civilization V, Sins of a Solar Empire, or even Supreme Commander type of video gamer. So a lane strategy game is not on my top lists of game types. In this case though, Eutechnyx I think is pulling off a decent game for its type. Lets take a look at it.

First off, the game is in its beta form, and the developers are very keen on getting community feedback on how the game plays and are requesting as much feedback on the game as possible. Its beta version is $9.99 on steam, which means its cost is really next to nothing for a video game.

The game play gives you 5 lanes of control that you must attempt to win. To beat a mission, you must win 3 out of the 5 lanes. To do this, you simply drop a drop pod at the beginning of each lane, and start producing Marines. You need to gather redemption (energy) to create a marine. Later after the first couple missions, you can bring in Stormravens to create assault marines, bring in ravenguard, even a fortress of redemption. ]

On top of that, you do get lots of upgrades for your units. This way you can customize your marines. My favorites thus far are really the plasma cannon upgrades for your devastator marines, but there are many upgrades that you can purchase with experience that you gain during your missions.

Criticisms are that the game really can get repetitive, linear and easy to beat for a strategy game. I have not tried hardcore mode, and did not see any other difficulty levels. This is however the beta form of the game, so a final product could very well be different or a better challenge.

I would definitely say that if you like lane strategy games, and the 40k Warhammer Universe, this game will give you what you want. It comes with lots of good upgrades, and different unit types, including putting marines into the fortress of redemptions to help fire across the lanes. The game ran smooth for the 2-3 hours I checked it out. Its also inexpensive at $9.99, so I can see it being one of those games that playing while waiting at the bus, airport, or your next class would be entertaining.

Storm of Vengeance is a lane strategy game for PC and mobile devices set in the dark, gothic universe of Warhammer 40,000.

Storm of Vengeance tells the story of a pivotal moment in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, during the legendary planetary conflict on Piscina IV. Featuring two of Games Workshop's most cherished characters, Grand Master Belial and Ork Warlord Ghazghkull Thraka, Storm of Vengeance offers the player the chance to command the tenacious defence of the planet with only 100 Dark Angel Space Marines, or attempt it’s annihilation using the cunning of the Ork Waaagh! and their telly-porta technology.

In early access, the developers are currently seeking as much feedback from the community as possible to make this the absolute best game possible when it is fully launched. We welcome all feedback and suggestions on the steam forums or at our forum (http://forums.eutechnyx.com/forums/252-Storm-Of-Vengeance). In the meantime, please note this may not be completely representative of final gameplay. Everyone who purchases now will automatically receive the full version of the game on release.
